Friday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

STREAKING

Wandy Rodriguez, Houston Astros 1-2, 1.42 ERA

The 33-year-old lefty has allowed one run in his last two starts covering 14 innings. Batters are hitting .208 against Rodriguez, who has a WHIP of 1.03. He should have a better record, but the Astros scored a total of six runs in his first three starts. Rodriguez gets the Reds on Friday.

Matt Harrison, Texas Rangers 3-0, 1.66 ERA

The Rays don’t like facing Harrison, who has a 2.33 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19 1/3 career innings against Tampa Bay. The 26-year-old lefty has a WHIP of 0.97 this season, and has held opposing batters to a .215 average. He’s averaging just over seven innings per start.

SLUMPING

Justin Masterson, Cleveland Indians 0-2, 6.65 ERA

The 27-year-old righty dominated on Opening Day, but has been terrible in three starts since. He’s allowed 15 earned runs in that span of 13 2/3 innings. He’s walked 12 batters, contributing to an unsightly WHIP of 1.62. However, Masterson has a 2.43 ERA in 37 career innings vs. the Angels.

Mike Leake, Cincinnati Reds 0-2, 6.50 ERA

After allowing five extra-base hits in his last outing, Leake has yielded 10 earned runs over his past two starts covering 12 innings. The league is batting .310 against him. Alarmingly, he has struck out just eight batters all season. Friday against Houston, Leake might be pitching to stay in the rotation.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes

Arizona at Miami

The Miami Marlins have a whole bunch of new stuff including a new name, logo, stadium, manager and a slew of newcomers in SS Jose Reyes, SP Mark Buehrle, SP Carlos Zambrano and RP Heath Bell. Through eighteen games the Marlins have gotten fourteen quality starts but the hapless bats have cost them resulting in a 7-11 start to the campaign depleting betting accounts to the tune of -$510. Swept up in New York and now ridding a five-game losing streak things do not get any easier on Friday when Carlos Zambrano (0-1, 2.84 ERA) heads to the bump against Joe Sauders (1-1, 1.29 ERA) and the Diamondbacks (9-10, -$214). Zambrano has strung together three straight quality starts for his new team but the right-hander will remain winless as Miami does not have an offensive answer for Saunders who has given up just three earned through 21 innings this season. One thing about Miami/Florida, they're terribly bad after three road losses posting a 1-12 mark the last thirteen occurrences, So, with Fish on a 2-14 (-$1387) slide vs N.L. West opponents including 1-8 (-$932) as a host outscored 6.4 to 2.8 and Snakes a solid 6-2 last eight trips into Miami take the D-Backs in the opener of this four-game set.
