Stephen Strasburg, Washington Nationals 2-0, 1.13 ERA
Strasburg, the NL’s Pitcher of the Month for April, has allowed one or zero runs in four of his five starts. The 23-year-old fireballer ranks second in the NL in ERA and WHIP (0.88) and is tied for fifth with 34 strikeouts. Seems like the only thing that can slow down Strasburg is Washington’s cautiousness about overusing him. He gets the Phillies at home Friday.
Wade Miley, Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0, 1.29 ERA
At this rate Miley isn’t going back to the bullpen. The 25-year-old lefty, who replaced the injured Dan Hudson, has not yielded an earned run in his two starts covering 12 1/3 innings. For the season, the league is hitting .133 against Miley, who’s allowed 10 hits in 21 innings. He faces the Mets in New York on Friday.
SLUMPING
Lucas Harrell, Houston Astros 1-2, 4.71 ERA
The 26-year-old right-hander has given up five earned runs in each of his last two starts. Over those 11 innings, he surrendered two homers, 14 hits and four walks. This season he’s had two good starts and three terrible ones. On Friday he’ll face the potent Cardinals, who rank near the top of MLB in every offensive category.
Ervin Santana, Los Angeles Angels 0-5, 6.16 ERA
Santana made progress in his last start, not allowing a homer after serving up 10 in his previous four outings. Batters are hitting .290 against Santana, who has a WHIP of 1.50. He’ll have to be careful when he faces Toronto’s Eric Thames: the Blue Jays’ left fielder is 4-for-8 lifetime against Santana with two homers and a double.

Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals
The Nationals, who sit one and a half games ahead of Atlanta in the N.L. East standings, welcome Philadelphia to town this weekend for a three game set. Nationals 16-9 (+$554) overall including 10-3 (+$612) in D.C. have NL Pitcher of the Month Stephen Strasburg (2-0, 1.12 ERA) toeing the rubber in the opener. The righty was dominating against Dodgers last Saturday allowing one run, five hits while striking out nine over seven innings but was tagged with a no-decision as Nats fell 4-3 in extras. Strasburg with five consecutive quality starts under his belt this season will be facing Phillies for just the second time in his career. In his first appearance back in 2010 Nationals staked Strasburg to a 5-0 lead but the right-hander was forced to leave after 4.1 innings due to tightness in his right elbow getting a ND as Washington defeated Philadelphia 8-1 at Citizens Bank Park. Phillies (13-13, -$434) have Kendrick scheduled to take the ball. Filling in for the injured Cliff Lee, Kendrick has lost both starts giving up 10 runs on 16 hits over 9.0 innings of work. Kendrick hits the rubber with a 2-3 life-time mark vs Washington in 11 starts (6-5 TSR). The Nationals and Phillies are meeting for the first time this season. Nationals have won five consecutive in the series and nine of eleven encounters with Philadelphia including 5-1 at Nationals Park.
