Friday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

STREAKING

Matt Moore, Tampa Bay Rays (10-7, 3.57)

Moore turned in another solid outing Sunday against the Angels, allowing two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings pitched. The rookie is 4-0 over his last five starts and hasn’t surrendered more than two runs in a game since July 7. He tries to keep the momentum going against the A’s on Friday.

Kyle Kendrick, Philadelphia Phillies (6-9, 4.20)

Kendrick allowed three hits over eight scoreless innings against the Brewers on Sunday to pick up his sixth win of the season. The righty has posted back-to-back wins and hasn’t allowed a run in his last 15 innings pitched. He draws the Nationals next.

SLUMPING

Ben Sheets, Atlanta Braves (4-3, 3.07)

Sheets allowed six runs on four hits over six innings Saturday against the Dodgers to fall to 4-3 on the year after a red-hot start. The veteran righty has suffered back-to-back losses after blazing out of the gates with a 4-1 record. He takes the hill in San Francisco in his next start.

Ryan Vogelsong, San Francisco Giants (10-7, 2.85)

Vogelsong lasted just three innings in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Padres. The right-hander also got rocked for eight runs in 2 2/3 innings in his previous start against Washington. Vogelsong has just one quality start in his last three turns after running off 16 consecutive quality outings from May 3 to July 29. He gets the Braves at the friendly confines of AT&T Park on Friday.

Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox

Seattle, which has won eight straight and 10-of-11 take their winnings ways into the windy city for a three-game set against White Sox. Seattle faces a daunting task as they have had little success vs Pale Hose posting a 4-21 mark the past 25 meetings including 2-11 on the south side of Chicago. Mariners do have a shot in the opener with Jason Vargas (13-8, 3.53 ERA). The left-hander is on a solid 6-1 stretch with a miniscule 1.95 ERA allowing 2 runs or less in eight of his last ten starts (8-2 TSR). White Sox will send Jake Peavy (9-9, 3.11 ERA) to the mound for Friday's game with the right-hander looking to snap a 3-game team start skid and improve a 3-9 TS slide. Saturday, edge goes to White Sox as they pit hard-luck Jose Quintana (5-2, 2.76 ERA) against Blake Beavan (8-7, 5.00 ERA). Quintana off three quality starts allowing 2 runs in each game (1-2 TSR) should get well deserved victory over Beavan who's been damaged for 4 runs in two of his last 3 starts. The finale featuring Gavin Floyd (9-9, 4.56 ERA) and Kevin Millwood (4-10, 4.29 ERA) will have both managers anxious when their hurlers head to the mound. Floyd off another rough start lasting just 2 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs, walking 4 batters with one K was tagged for 4 long-ball, 5 runs in his only start vs Seattle this season. As for Millwood, the veteran right-hander hasn't faced Chicago this season but heads to the hill 1-7 vs Pale Hose with his teams 2-11 (Sea, Bal, Tex, Cle) over thirteen starts.
