Monday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

Streaking

Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies (7-1, 2.17 ERA)

The 28-year-old lefty is tied for the MLB lead in victories. He’s gone at least seven innings in four straight starts and has an eye-popping strikeout-to-walk ratio of 66:13. Batters are hitting .220 against Hamels. However, he’s just 4-10 with a 4.33 ERA in 18 career starts against the Mets.

Jered Weaver, Los Angeles Angels (6-1, 2.61 ERA)

The 29-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs over his last two starts, covering 15 innings. Batters are hitting .190 against him, and he’s tied for second in the majors with a WHIP of 0.90. In nine career starts against the Yankees, Weaver is 5-2 with a 4.79 ERA.

Slumping

Juan Nicasio, Colorado Rockies (2-2, 4.83 ERA)

The 25-year-old right-hander was hammered by the Marlins last time out, giving up nine hits and six runs (five earned) in five innings. He has gone more than five innings only once in his last four starts. Nicasio’s WHIP is an unsightly 1.57, and batters are hitting .303 against him.

Drew Hutchison, Toronto Blue Jays (3-2, 5.73 ERA)

The 21-year-old right-hander was lit up in Tampa Bay last time out, serving up two homers and six earned runs over four innings. He’s given up at least four earned runs in four of his seven starts. Hutchison faces the powerful Orioles, who lead the majors in home runs, on Monday.

New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels

Things did not start well for LAA but Halos seem to have turned things around reeling off six straight W's pulling themselves out of the A.L. West basement. A true test of their turnaround comes when New York Yankees pay a visit as Bombers are on a 5-0 stretch of their own and won 2-of-3 when these clubs met up in New York earlier.

Halos should get the series off to a good start as they have their ace Jered Weaver (6-1, 2.61 ERA, 7-3 TSR) scheduled against Phil Hughes (4-5, 4.94 ERA) in the opener. Weaver missed the Yankees earlier this season but Halos send him to the hill knowing he was 2-0 vs New York last year with a miniscule 1.8 ERA and that they've won 7 or his 10 career starts vs New York including a perfect 5-0 when hosting Yankees. Look for Halos to scratch out a win as Yankees fall to 1-4 in the series w/Hughes, 5-11 on the road with the hurler.
