Monday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

Streaking

Lance Lynn, St. Louis Cardinals (5-0, 1.60 ERA)

Lynn gave up two runs for the first time this season in his last start, improving to 5-0 with a 12-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win made him the NL’s first five-game winner as he struck out six and walked one while sitting down 15 consecutive Pirates at one point. With five pitches in his arsenal, Lynn’s giving batters fits right now.

Ted Lilly, Los Angeles Dodgers (3-0, 1.38 ERA)

Lilly had to leave his last outing early with a strained oblique, but is expected to be 100 percent for Monday’s date with the Giants. His 1.38 ERA puts him fourth in the league. The 36-year-old veteran lefty has just 15 strikeouts compared to nine walks this year.

Slumping

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins (0-4, 9.97 ERA)

Liriano returned to the rotation last week after the club skipped his turn before that, but couldn’t snap his winless skid. He looked great at times, but also allowed a pair of solo homers and walked three while putting the leadoff batter on base in five innings during the 4-0 loss to the Angels.

Yovani Gallardo, Milwaukee Brewers (1-3, 5.79 ERA)

After getting pounded by the Cardinals, Gallardo managed to throw six quality innings against Padres. However, he still took the loss in a 5-0 decision, and is winless in five starts. He gave up four home runs in his first start of the season, but hasn’t allowed another since then.

Texas Rangers at Baltimore Orioles

Things have not gone well for Texas Rangers over this extended road swing and they'll be in tough this coming week as they end the 10-game stretch with a four-game series in Baltimore starting Monday. Rangers losing 2-of-3 in both Toronto and Cleveland must now solve an Oriole club passing big tests in recording a series win in the Bronx and most recently sweeping Red Sox at Fenway. Orioles on a 11-2 stretch won't be intimidated against a team that may have lost it's confidence. Rangers open the set with Matt Harrison (3-2, 5.40 ERA). The lefty struggling last two on the mound has allowed a combined 15 runs during the losing streak. Rangers will be hoping the hurler can right the ship and improve his 3-0 mark with a 4.68 ERA in four starts against the Orioles (4-0 TSR). Orioles counter with Brain Matusz (1-3 4.67 ERA). Matusz finally earned himself a win on Tuesday to snap his 12-game losing streak that spans over fifteen games (2-13 TSR). The southpaw optimistic following the victory but also a little anxious in this difficult home start against a lethal Rangers lineup heads to the bump with a 2-1, 6.44 ERA in four starts vs Rangers (3-1 TSR). The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Head-Head last year it was all Rangers as they won 5-of-6 encounters outscoring Orioles 46-17 resulting in 3 'Over' - 3 'Under'. The betting market has Orioles w/Matusz anywhere from +$1.30 to +$1.40 underdog with the total set at 9.5
