Monday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

STREAKING

Kyle Lohse, St. Louis Cardinals (7-2, 2.82 ERA)

Take a look at the Cards’ new No. 1 starter. Adam Wainwright is struggling in his first year back from Tommy John surgery and Chris Carpenter is still looking for the fountain of youth.

Lohse, meanwhile, is just doing work. He’s produced quality starts in each of his last five appearances and the under is 4-1 over that same streak.

Zack Greinke, Milwaukee Brewers (9-2, 2.82 ERA)

This right-hander’s name is floating in the trade rumor mill but bettors would lose a money trend if Greinke leaves Wisconsin. The Brewers are 20-1 in Greinke’s 21 career starts at Miller Park, including 5-1 this season.

Greinke is 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA in six home starts this campaign and has allowed just eight earned runs in his last 43 innings pitched.

SLUMPING

Doug Fister, Detroit Tigers (1-5, 3.91 ERA)

The hope in Detroit was that Fister could be every bit as good for the Tigers in 2012 as he was in 2011 after coming over from the Seattle Mariners. But turns out a groundball pitcher doesn't have a lot of success with roly-poly corner infielders.

Fister gave up eight earned runs in his last start and Detroit is 1-7 in his last eight appearances.

Carlos Zambrano, Miami Marlins (4-6, 3.71 ERA)

A month and a half into the season and Miami scribes were wondering if Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen had resurrected Zambrano’s career. Well, six weeks better we all know better. Big Z still stinks.

The Marlins are 0-4 in Zambrano’s last four outings and Carlos has walked 15 batters in his last 13 2/3 innings pitched.

Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Indians

When the Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels meet for the 4th time this season runs will be at a premium. The first three meetings produced just 4 runs/game in going 0-3 'Under' and these two clubs have now played 'Under' in 17-of-19 encounters (17-1-1 'Under') crossing a combined 5.4 runs/game. No need bucking trends, the betting market has the total set at 8 runs a number these clubs have managed to top only twice in 17 games played in Cleveland producing 5.8 runs/game posting a 16-1 'Under' mark. Other trends of interest - LAA is on a 7-3-1 'Under' stretch vs the A.L. Central, 8-1-3 'Under' im Weaver's L12 July starts, Tribe are on a 7-1-1 'Under' streak opening a series and 4-1 'Under' L5 w/Jimenez taking the ball.

Miami Marlins at Milwaukee Brewers

Crew will have a ton of optimism when they open this four-game set against Marlins at Miller Park. Brewers sweeping all seven vs Miami last season have their top arm, Zack Greinke (9-2, 2.82 ERA, 11-5 TSR) heading to the hill with a 22-1 team start record at Miller Park of which he has won sixteen of them. Play Brewers knowing they're on a 9-1 stretch at home vs Miami, 9-1 streak opening a series with Greinke and that the hurler is 3-0 life-time vs Miami. If that were not enough to consider Brew Crew keep in mind Miami is on a 0-4 road skid and 0-4 slide with Carlos Zambrano (4-6, 3.71 ERA) touching toe to rubber.

What Bettors Need to Know: Angels at Indians
By Covers.com

Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Indians (+130, 8)

The Cleveland Indians kick off a six-game homestand heading with a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. The Indians, who are 1½ games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central, concluded their 4-6 road trip by scoring 32 runs in taking three of four at Baltimore. Cleveland, though, will be facing a different caliber of pitcher in All-Star Jered Weaver, who has won two straight since coming off the disabled list.

The Angels are 4-2 on their nine-game road trip after salvaging a split of a four-game series with a 10-6 victory over Toronto on Sunday. They are 5½ games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West, but are first in the AL wild-card race. This is Los Angeles’ second trip to Cleveland this season – the Indians won two of three in April.

Los Angeles rookie Mike Trout, who is emerging as a strong AL MVP candidate, went 2-for-4 with a homer Sunday and leads the AL in batting with a .339 average.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Jered Weaver (8-1, 2.31 ERA) vs. Indians RH Ubaldo Jimenez (7-6, 4.69)

Weaver allowed one run, six hits and struck out six in 6 2/3 innings in Los Angeles’ 13-1 victory at Baltimore on Wednesday. He is 5-2 in 13 starts against the Indians, including a no-decision after he pitched six scoreless innings and allowed seven runs, four walks and struck out eight in a 3-2 loss at Cleveland on April 27. The Indians’ roster is hitting .232 against him, with Shin-Soo Choo 11-for-25 (five doubles) and Asdrubal Cabrera 6-for-27.

Jimenez, who had a 2.78 ERA in five June starts, went only 2-2 to show for it. He allowed four runs, four hits and walked four in six innings in his last outing, a 5-4 loss at the New York Yankees on Wednesday. He lost his only career start against the Angels in 2009 while pitching for Colorado. The Los Angeles roster is hitting .258 against him, with Albert Pujols 4-for-15 (double, five RBIs).

WALK-OFFS:

1. Four Angels – Mark Trumbo, left-hander C.J. Wilson, Trout and Weaver – were named to the American League All-Star team Sunday. Cleveland will be represented by shortstop Cabrera and closer Chris Perez. Los Angeles reliever Ernesto Frieri is one of five players on the ballot for the 34th man vote.

2. Cleveland catcher Carlos Santana missed the last four games with a back injury and is day-to-day.

3. Trout has scored 51 runs in 236 at-bats, 10 off the major league lead held by Texas’ Ian Kinsler, who has 337 at-bats.
