Monday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

STREAKING

Mike Fiers, Milwaukee Brewers (6-4, 1.80 ERA)

Fiers is in the midst of a breakout season with a 6-4 record, 1.80 ERA while averaging a strikeout per inning at the big league level. He’s won three consecutive starts, only allowing three earned runs during that stretch. His next start is on the road at Coors Field in Colorado.

Alex Cobb, Tampa Bay Rays (6-8, 4.32 ERA)

Cobb struck out seven batters and only allowed one run over seven innings Wednesday against Toronto to pick up his sixth win of the year. This was Cobb's third consecutive quality after netting only one in his previous five outings. He has posted back-to-back wins, only squandering two earned runs during that stretch. He toes the rubber in Seattle next time out.

SLUMPING

C.J. Wilson, Los Angeles Angels (9-8, 3.34 ERA)

Wilson struggled through five innings against the Athletics Tuesday, allowing 14 hitters to reach base. It was Wilson’s second sub-par outing in a row, both against division rivals. The lefty has surrendered 11 earned runs in his last two starts. His next start is at home versus the Indians.

Jeff Francis, Colorado Rockies (3-4, 6.06 ERA)

Francis allowed three runs over four innings during Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers. The southpaw has been lit up for 14 earned runs in last three starts and hasn’t survived past the fourth inning in each of those outings. He takes the hill at home against the Brewers next.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes
Sportspic.com

Chicago White Sox at Toronto Blue Jays

The Chicago White Sox head north of the border for a four-game set against the Blue Jays. White Sox clinging onto fist spot in the A.L. Central will be looking to reverse an ugly trend up in Toronto. White Sox are just 3-15 last eighteen visit to the city. White Sox pin their hopes on Jake Peavy (9-8, 3.08 ERA) who is 1-0 vs Jays this season over two starts (2-0 TSR) and 2-0 vs Toronto in four starts (4-0 TSR) since becoming a Pale Hose in 2010. Jays mired in a 2-11 slide counter with Carlos Villanueva (6-2, 3.30 ERA) looking to remain undefeated as a starter at the Rogers Center this season (4-0, 3.00 ERA).

Milwaukee Brewers at Colorado Rockies

Rockies and left-hander Jeff Francis host the Brewers and right-handed pitcher Michael Fiers (6-4, 1.80 ERA) at Coors Field on Monday. Not the best of news for Rockies, Francis heads to the mound in terrible form unable to get out of the 4th inning in each of his last three starts (0-3 TSR) giving up 4 yard-ball, 14 runs over 12.2 innins of work for a whopping 10.8 ERA. On the flip side, Brewers Fiers' in great form is on a 3-0 stretch surrendering 4 runs over 20.1 innings for a miniscule 1.33 ERA. Friers will have to be at his best today if Brewers are going improve the current 1-11 road slide and 8-17 skid last twenty-five in Colorado.

Washington - San Francisco Series Preview
Sportspic.com

Washington Nationals sporting the best record in the Majors at 71-44 (+$2138) along with ridding an 8-1 win streak look to keep the momentum going when they visit San Francisco Giants. A big part of Nationals success has been their Major league best 39-22 (+$1807) mark on the road where the club plates 4.6 runs/game. The other big reason, having the Majors best pitching staff (3.22) and if probable pitching hold the series will feature their top three hurler.

Gio Gonzalez (14-6, 3.32 ERA) toes the rubber in the opener trying to out duel Ryan Vogelsong (10-5, 2.27 ERA). Gonzalez tossing his first nine-inning complete game on Wednesday at Houston is now 9-2 on the road with a smart 3.30 ERA. Gonzalez is 1-2 vs Giants, all with Oakland in IL play. Vogelsong blanking St.Louis last time out has the second-best ERA in the Majors (2.27 ERA) surrendering 2 runs or less in 15 of his 21 starts (15-6 TSR). Vogelson 5-3 (1.42 ERA) at home has never faced Nats as a starter.

Tuesday, Jordan Zimmermann (9-6, 2.35 ERA) heads to the hill for Washington. Zimmermann off his most dominant start of the season tying a career high 11 strikeout while walking none has allowed one earned run or less in 14 of his 23 starts this year (15-8 TSR). Zimmermann 3-1 vs Giants will be opposed by Madison Bumgarner (12-7, 3.08 ERA). The left-hander suffering a loss in St Louis last outing is a strong 7-1 at AT&T Park with a miniscule 1.98 ERA over 10 starts (8-2 TSR). Well to note, Giants have lost his last two starts vs Nationals.

The finale features Stephen Strasburg (13-5, 2.90 ERA) and Tim Lincecum (6-12, 5.35 ERA) on respective mounds. Strasburg a dominant 8-2 (9-3 TSR) on the road has faced Giants just once in his career posting a strong 6 innings of 3 hit, 1 run ball in a victory. Meanwhile, Lincecum off a loss against Colorado hopes this meeting with Nationals turns out better than the last. On July 3, Washington tagged the right-hander for eight runs in 3 1/3 innings. The loss moves Giants mark to 1-4 vs Nationals last four years with Lincecum touching toe to rubber.

Nationals took all three earlier encounters in Washington but AT&T Park has been a house of horrors for Nationals the past four seasons as they've posted a 3-9 record over the span.
