Saturday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

Streaking

Ricky Nolasco, Miami Marlins (4-0, 2.72 ERA)

Nolasco held the Padres to two runs on five hits over seven innings to tie Dontrelle Willis for the franchise lead in victories with 68. Nolasco has worked at least seven innings in each of his last three starts and walked just a single better in each.

Brandon Beachy, Atlanta Braves (3-1, 1.62 ERA)

Beachy has been nothing short of dominant this season. He was cruising along before stumbling a bit in the seventh inning in a 7-2 win over Colorado. He gave up the two runs on four hits while also walking three. Beachy’s sporting a tidy 0.95 WHIP in 39 innings so far this season heading into a tough date with the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Slumping

Chris Volstad, Chicago Cubs (0-4, 6.55 ERA)

Volstad continues to get burned by one bad inning in his starts. In his last trip to the hill, he was looking good until he gave up three runs in the second inning – two of which came on a two-run double from pitcher Chris Capuano. Volstad hasn’t won since July 10 of last year and is working on a 6.88 ERA in his last three.

Luke Hochevar, Kansas City Royals (2-3, 9.00 ERA)

Hochevar couldn’t get out of the third inning against the Yankees, allowing seven hits and seven earned runs before getting the hook. He has now allowed at least seven runs in three of his first six starts and owns a fat 1.82 WHIP through 28 innings of work.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes
Sportspic.com

Atlanta at St. Louis

The defending champion St Louis Cardinals had it's four-game win streak snapped Friday as Atlanta's Jason Heyward belted a two-run homer in the 12th inning to give Braves a 9-7 victory in the opener of this three game set. Gets tougher for St Louis Saturday as Braves send their ace Brandon Beachy (3-1, 1.62 ERA) to the mound and Cardinals counter with Adam Wainwright (2-3, 5.61 ERA). Beachy nothing short of dominant this season will keep Cardinal bats quiet as he is limiting opponents to a .190 batting average. Wainwright, worst of the Cardinal rotation surrendering 7 yard-ball, 21 earned runs so far this season opens the door for Braves to inflict serious damage and make it two in-a-row vs Cardinals. Consider underdog (+$1.15) Atlanta. The Braves are on an 8-1 stretch in game-two of a series, 7-1 streak playing a team with a winning record. If that were not enough, Cardinals are on a 0-6 skid in game-two of a series w/Wainwright, 2-5 slide with the hurler at home.

Tampa Bay at Baltimore

When Tampa Bay plays the second of this three game set in Baltimore Saturday night they should feel pretty good about chances at knotting up the series. Rays are not only 13-7 last twenty at Camden Yards but they'll be swinging away at Brian Matusz's offerings. Birds left-hander has but one win his last sixteen on the mound and carries to the bump a horrendous 2-14 team start record over span. Add to that, Matusz is on a 1-6 team start stretch in May.
