Saturday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

STREAKING

David Price, Tampa Bay Rays (14-4, 2.49 ERA)

Price allowed one run over seven innings and struck out 10 batters in his last start against the Orioles on Wednesday. He’s now tossed seven innings or more in seven straight starts, winning six of those outings. The lefty hasn’t taken a loss since June 13 and has to be considered as one of the frontrunners for the AL CY Young award. His next start is against the Twins at Target Field.

A.J. Burnett, Pittsburgh Pirates (14-3, 3.19 ERA)

Burnett held the high-powered Reds to two runs over 8 2/3 innings in his last start and the former Yankee took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in his previous outing against the Cubs. The righty has quickly emerged as the ace of the Pirates' staff and takes the mound against the lowly Padres in his next outing

SLUMPING

Ivan Nova, New York Yankees (10-6, 4.81 ERA)

Nova was rocked again Monday in a loss to the Tigers as he pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs. The righty has surrendered 23 long balls and 160 hits in just over 138 innings this season. Nova looks to pick up his first win since July 8 in Toronto on Saturday.

Tommy Milone, Oakland Athletics (9-9, 3.91 ERA)

Milone surrendered six runs on nine hits over six innings of a 6-5 loss to Toronto on Sunday. The lefty has allowed 16 runs over his last 19 innings after a string of six starts where he allowed two or fewer runs. He takes the hill in Chicago against the White sox next time out.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes
Sportspic.com

Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants

Giants tied atop the N.L. West with Dodgers will be a little anxious when they hand the ball to Matt Cain (10-5, 3.01 ERA) in the second of this three game set vs Rockies. Cain, hasn't won in four starts and has given up five runs in two of those trips to the mound. But, a meeting with lowly Rockies at AT&T Park is what the hurler needs to get back on track. Cain 5-3 at home this season with a sparkling 2.22 ERA, 7-0 overall in day games (2.45 ERA) is 13-7 in 26 starts against Colorado with Giants 16-10 over the span split between 10-5 in San Francisco, 6-5 at Coors Field. Helping the Cain and Giant cause, Rockies a dreadful 20-32 on the road have Drew Pomeranz (1-6, 4.76) schedule to take the ball. The southpaw hasn't made it out of the fifth inning in five starts giving up 18 earned-runs over 21.1 innings of work. Stick with Giants who are 14-4 at home in Game two of a series including 4-1 w/Cain.

Oakland Athletics at Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox trying to distance themselves from Detroit in the A.L. Central and Oakland Athletics in the hunt for a wild-card spot in the American League continue their crucial series Saturday in the Windy City. White Sox look poised to take the next two as they get face two young Oakland hurlers starting to hit the wall. Saturday it's A's lefty Tommy Milone (9-9, 3.91 ERA) shelled for the third straight time his last start giving up six runs vs Jays in posting a third straight loss with a whopping 7.58 ERA. ** Update** A's have shuffled things up. Blackley moves back into the rotation to fill in for Tommy Milone. Blackley is 3-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 10 starts this season. For the finale, A's have Jarrod Parker (7-6, 3.55 ERA) scheduled for the mound. Like Milone, Parker is starting to wear down getting spanked for 13 earned-run his last three (6.62 ERA) in going 0-2 with a no-decision. Oakland with mediocre pitchers scheduled over the next two days will be hard pressed vs hungry Pale Hose countering with Francisco Liriano (3-10, 5.03) sporting a pair of no-decisions since moving to the South Side allowing just 3 runs over 11 innings of work and top hurler Chris Sale (13-3, 2.59 ERA) on a sparkling 10-1 stretch his 13 starts including a perfect 5-0 streak at U.S Cellular Field.
