San Francisco Giants at New York Mets (-115, 7.5)
San Francisco needed 10 innings to eke out a 4-3 victory in Friday’s series opener, but New York got even with a 5-4 victory on Saturday, scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth on an error by Giants catcher Buster Posey.
Struggling Tim Lincecum will take the mound for San Francisco.
A two-time Cy Young winner, Lincecum has been arguably the most shocking disappointment of the young season, allowing at least five runs in each of his three starts and failing to even make it out of the third inning in an April 11 loss at Colorado. He still has a solid strikeout-to-walk ratio (16 to 4), and he's 3-1 with a 2.87 ERA in seven career starts against the Mets.
Mets 3B David Wright, second in the National League in batting, is just 2 for 17 with 11 strikeouts in his career against Lincecum.
New York was picked to finish at the bottom of a loaded NL East, but the Mets have hung tough so far thanks to better-than-expected pitching from the likes of Mike Pelfrey, Jonathon Niese and Sunday’s starter, right-hander Dillon Gee.
Gee was rock solid in his second outing of the year, limiting Atlanta to one run on four hits over seven innings in an April 16 road win. He has shown solid control thus far, striking out 11 and walking just two in his two starts. Gee will be making his first career start against San Francisco, having pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in two previous appearances.
While Gee has been impressive, Lincecum is way past due to return to his old self.
Pick: Giants
Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals (-120, 8.5)
The Nationals continue to shock the National League, picking up their 12th win of the season despite blowing a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning against the Marlins Saturday. Washington is off to the franchise’s best start since the 1981 Montreal Expos began the year 12-3. Miami is just 2-6 on the road after losing the first two games of this series. The Marlins have managed just two runs against the Nats and wasted two solid outings from their starters.
Hanley Ramirez was the hot bat heading into the series but is 0 for 7 with four strikeouts in the past two games. Washington’s offense hasn’t been lighting up the scoreboard either. The Nationals have been dependent on the long ball, scoring three of their five runs on solo homers.
Miami starter Josh Johnson has been dominant versus Washington in his career, posting a 7-0 record and 3.14 ERA in 83 innings against the Nationals. The right-hander is mired in an eight-game winless skid going back to last season after collecting a no-decision in his most recent outing, a seven-inning effort against the Cubs in which he allowed two runs on seven hits.
Gio Gonzalez is just another cog in Washington’s dominant starting staff. The southpaw has kept a clean sheet through his last two starts, most recently shutting out the Astros and allowing only two hits while striking out eight. He threw a gem in his only career start against the Marlins, giving up one hit while fanning nine in eight innings while with Oakland last season.
Washington’s starting staff has pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings heading into Sunday's series finale.
Pick: Under
Sunday Night Baseball: Yankees at Red Sox
By Covers.com
New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox (+116, 8.5)
The New York Yankees are simultaneously crushing the baseball and the spirit of the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees, who erased a 9-0 deficit and scored the game’s final 15 runs Saturday, send ace C.C. Sabathia to the mound Sunday night to try for a three-game sweep of reeling Boston. The Red Sox have lost five straight and were outscored 46-17 in the process, but facing Sabathia provides a glimmer of hope. Although he is 177-96 in his career, Sabathia is 7-9 against the Red Sox, including 3-4 at Fenway Park. The Yankees’ starting rotation is off to a slow start with an ERA of 5.84 – Sabathia’s is 5.59. But with 11 homers in their last three games, the Yanks' offense is providing plenty of support.
The Red Sox’ bullpen allowed 14 runs Saturday after Felix Doubront provided stability to the starting rotation with six solid innings. Daniel Bard, who has a 1.69 career ERA at Fenway Park, will try to keep the momentum going when he makes his third major league start. The Red Sox are 11-30 since Sept. 1, 2011.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH C.C. Sabathia (1-0, 5.59 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Daniel Bard (0-2, 4.63 ERA)
Sabathia earned his first victory in the Yankees’ 8-3 win over Minnesota on Tuesday. He didn’t allow a hit after the third inning and struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings. Sabathia pitched six innings in each of his first two starts at Baltimore and Tampa Bay. Boston’s roster is hitting .257 against Sabathia, with Mike Aviles 6-for-13 and David Ortiz 11-for-49 with two homers and 15 strikeouts.
Bard walked seven, including one with the bases loaded, in Monday’s 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay. He allowed four hits and struck out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Bard has pitched 24 innings in relief against New York, allowing 18 hits and 14 walks with 25 strikeouts and a 4.13 ERA. The Yankees’ roster is batting .243 against Bard. Curtis Granderson has fared well (4-for-7, homer) while Robinson Cano is 0-for-8.
TRENDS:
* Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Boston.
* Yankees are 4-1 in the last five meetings.
* Yankees are 1-4 in Sabathia's last five starts vs. Red Sox.
UMP TRENDS - Tim Tschida:

* Home team is 5-0 in Tschidas last five games behind home plate.
* Red Sox are 9-3 in their last 12 games with Tschida behind home plate.
WALK-OFFS:
1. New York's Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher had six RBIs apiece Saturday.
2. Boston designated hitter David Ortiz, a .264 career hitter in April, went 4-for-4 on Saturday and is hitting .436.
3. The Red Sox acquired center fielder Marlon Byrd from the Cubs for right-hander Michael Bowden and cash. Boston needs outfield depth with Jacoby Ellsbury out several weeks with a shoulder injury.

San Francisco Giants at New York Mets
The Giants and Mets play the third of a four-game set at Citi Field hooking two hurlers headed in opposite direction. Giants, Lincecum (0-2, 10.54 ERA) winless so far getting tagged for 22 hits, 16 runs over 13.2 innings of work has now lost four of his last five (0-5 TSR) and six of eight dating back to last season (1-8 TSR). Although Giants have won the last four vs Mets with Lincecum touching toe to rubber they remain in dangerous betting territory as Giants are on an 0-5 road skid with 'The Freak' and an 0-3 slide with Lincecum off a loss the previous day. NY Mets Dillon Gee (1-1, 2.92 ERA) is off one of his best career starts lasting seven of four hit one run ball in a 6-1 victory over Braves. The hurler has never started a game against the Giants.
