Pittsburgh at Texas

The closing matchup of a three game interleague series is today's baseball betting focus as the Texas Rangers host the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday afternoon at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Texas looking to win the rubber match count on southpaw Martin Perez bringing a 2-4 record, 3.13 ERA to the hill. Perez pitched six scoreless innings in a 4-1 win over Angels on Tuesday but Perez is suspect in this spot. Rangers are just 5-16 in Perez's next trip to the mound following a quality start. Additionally, despite the recent win, the hurler remains 2-6 his last thirteen trips to the mound with Rangers 3-10 over the span costing backers -$705 at the betting window.

Pirates counter with lefthanded Francisco Liriano. In his last outing, Liriano limited the D-backs to one run and two hits in 5 2/3 innings. With the victory, Liriano heads to the mound 4-3 on the campaign with a 4.30 ERA. Pittsburgh should feel pretty confident about their chances. The Pirates are 8-1 in Liriano's last 9 road starts vs. a winning team and head into the contest knowing Liriano has a 4-0 streak vs Rangers tossing for Pirates and Minnesota.

The fact Perez is a southpaw is a nod towards Pittsburgh as Pirates have won six of its last eight swinging away at a lefthanded starter and sport a sparkling 8-1 streak when a host team trots out a lefty. The most compelling numbers in the Pirates' favor are the figures compiled by the team in an A.L. West opponents backyard. In the last ten such venues the Pirates are a near perfect 9-1. Evidence is the key in making any case, and the numbers above clearly illustrate that Pittsburgh is the right choice.

Dodgers, Mets wrap series
By Sportsbook.ag

LOS ANGELES DODGERS at NEW YORK METS

Sportsbook.ag Line: Dodgers -180, Mets +160, Total 6 (Over -110, Under -110)

Game 1: Mets 6 Dodgers 5
Game 2: Dodgers 9 Mets 1

Clayton Kershaw will be looking to improve to 8-1 when he faces the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball.

This Sunday night game will be the final contest of a three-game set between the Dodgers and Mets. Both teams have been playing well this season and each of them will be hoping to make a deep postseason run this year. One thing that should make this game exciting is that LHP Clayton Kershaw (7-1, 1.48 ERA, 95 K) is set to be on the mound for Los Angeles. He is the best pitcher in the entire league and it’s always fun to get a chance to see him.

Going up against Kershaw will be the crafty veteran, RHP Bartolo Colon (4-3, 3.44 ERA, 42 K). Colon is nowhere near as good as Kershaw is, but the 43-year-old is having a good season for New York and a victory can never be ruled out when Colon is pitching in front of his own home crowd.

Clayton Kershaw will be starting for the Dodgers on Sunday and he’ll be hoping to continue what has been a phenomenal season. Kershaw has allowed just one earned run in his past 26.0 innings on the mound, but he has really been straight up dominant all year. Kershaw has struck out 95 batters on the year and he has walked just five. That gives him two more victories than walks on the year. Kershaw should be feeling confident heading into a matchup with a Mets team that has struggled to hit him over the years.

Some guys to look out for offensively for the Dodgers are 1B Adrian Gonzalez (.274, 4 HR, 22 RBI) and 2B Chase Utley (.289 BA, 2 HR, 10 RBI). Gonzalez is 12-for-27 with two homers and three RBI against Colon in his career. This matchup is just what he needs to break out of his slump, as he is just 3-for-17 over the past four games. Utley, meanwhile, is not an everyday player but should be in the lineup for this one. He is 10-for-20 with a homer and three RBI against Colon and it’d be shocking if that success doesn’t earn him some playing time in this one.

Bartolo Colon has a tough matchup with Clayton Kershaw in this one, but he should be coming into this start with some serious momentum. The last time Colon was on the mound was May 23 and he allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work in that game. If he can pitch anywhere near that well then the Mets would be ecstatic on Sunday.

Offensively, things are going to be very difficult for New York in this game. Not a single Mets player has homered off of Kershaw in their careers and that’s an insane statistic entering this one. OFs Yoenis Cespedes (.301 BA, 15 HR, 36 RBI) is New York’s best hitter, but he is 0-for-6 in his career against Kershaw. It’s hard to imagine the Mets finding a way to win this game with Cespedes not getting a hit, so he’ll need to find a way to figure out the lefty on Sunday.
