Cleveland Indians at Kansas City Royals

Eight on the afternoon schedule this July 4th holiday including Indians and Royals playing a rubber match at Kauffman Stadium. Cleveland nipped 6-5 in game-two last night have Ubaldo Jimenez with a 6-4 record, 4.63 ERA taking the ball. The Indians have been good bets with Jimenez of late reeling off four straight wins and will send the right-hander to the mound knowing they're already 2-0 vs Royals with him and a solid 7-2 in his nine road starts this season. Kansas City counters with James Shields bringing a 3-6 mark, 2.99 ERA to the mound. Royals have won each of Shields' last six starts including a win over Indians in the hurlers' only start vs Cleveland this season. Tough choice when it comes to these two starters but what does stands out, Indians have responded well on the road after splitting the first two of a three game set posting a 3-1 mark in rubber matches including 2-0 handing the ball to Jimenez. Cleveland 3-1 as road underdog of $1.10 to $1.40 with Jimenez, Shields 1-5 life-time over ten career starts vs Cleveland (4-6 TSR) Tribe are the MLB Pick.

Giants at Reds: Preview & Pick
Sportspic.com

Perusing the baseball betting numbers gives a strong hint that this afternoon’s holiday clash between the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants will have its own set of fireworks.

The Reds have been designated by those in the baseball handicapping world as a -130 home favorite, with the run total set at 8. Those specific numbers are according to the current betting odds at Bovada

Cincinnati will have righthander Mike Leake start, bringing a 7-3 record with a 2.52 ERA. He is 5-1 in his last five decisions, but his last victory came three starts ago against Pittsburgh on June 17.

Leake has done much better pitching at night this season, with a record of 5-1 and ERA of 1.84, but during the day, his numbers are decidedly different: 2-2 with a 3.40 ERA.

Matt Cain will counter for the Giants, with the righthander sporting just a 5-4 record and 4.29 ERA. A slow start to the season accounts for the numbers, since he has been solid in his last five trips to the mound with a 1.82 ERA—yet only has a 1-1 record to show for it.

Looking at some of the above numbers, the under would seemingly be the call. However, baseball handicapping is about digging deeper for more information, and there’s plenty to go around in this case.

For instance, the Over has been the baseball betting choice 10 of 12 times over the past two seasons when Leake has started at home and when the total was either 8 or 8.5. In addition, when the Reds have been a home favorite of -150 or less with Leake on the Mound, the Over is 7-3.

This game marks the end of the first series in another Reds’ homestand. Since 2011, the Over is 15-5-2 when the final game of a series in the middle of a Reds’ homestand is during the day, and 24-8-3 overall in favor of the Over.

With the Giants, four of the last six times the total has been under 8.5, the game has gone Over. Meanwhile, those same numbers come up when looking at when Cain has been a road dog of less than +150: 4-2 in favor of the Over.

A final baseball handicapping number that spans all of major league baseball since May 15 makes one more appeal to the Over: teams ending a road trip with a day game (like the Giants) and the total under 8.5 have seen the Over put together a 19-9-2 mark.

Play San Francisco and Cincinnati Over 8
