Tuesday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com
Streaking
Ian Kennedy, Arizona Diamondbacks (5-5, 3.93)
Kennedy matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts in six innings to help Arizona pound Colorado 10-0 last week. After suffering through a five-start losing streak, the California native has won consecutive starts, giving up just one run in 13 2/3 innings. Kennedy has walked just 19 batters in 75 2/3 innings over 12 starts.
Clay Buchholz, Boston Red Sox (6-2, 5.77 ERA)
A minor change to the grip of his change-up has Buchholz baffling hitters again. He has 19 strikeouts since he made the change three starts ago, yielding just four earned runs over that span. Walks have been Buchholz’s major problem (31 in 73 1/3 innings), but he has issued only four free passes to first in his last three.
Slumping
Paul Maholm, Chicago Cubs (4-5, 5.10 ERA)
Chicago has dropped five consecutive Maholm starts and the lefty is coming off a 8-0 loss at Milwaukee that saw him go just four innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He hasn’t had a quality start since May 9 and has struck out just 36 batters compared to 20 walks this year. The Cubs are averaging only 1.7 runs in his last three outings.
Bud Norris, Houston Astros (5-3, 4.65 ERA)
After winning four in a row, the Astros have lost each of Norris’ last three turns in the rotation. He gave up nine runs in just 1 2/3 innings at Colorado at the end of May and then served up a pair of homers and four earned runs in a 4-3 loss to St. Louis in his last time out. The good news was that he struck out a season-high 12 batters against the Cards.

Detroit Tigers at Chicago Cubs
Cubbies on a 2-8 skid, 5-20 (-$1547) slide plating just 3.7 runs/game have an uphill battle when they send lefty Paul Maholm to the mound in the opener of this three-game Interleague set. Maholm is back to old tricks. Cubbies have dropped five consecutive Maholm starts and the southpaw has now seen his teams (CHI/PIT) get dismantled in 14 of his last 18 trips to the mound. Expect Maholm's team start record to tumble to 0-3 vs Detroit and Tigers to extend their streak to 8-0 vs Chicago.
New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves
Yankees taking the opener 3-0 marking a seventh win in eight on the diamond pit left-hander C.C. Sabathia (7-3, 3.69 ERA) against southpaw Mike Minor (3-4, 6.57) when they continue this set at Turner Field. Consider sticking with visiting Yankees knowing Sabathia off a rare clunker surrendering 7 hits, 5 runs in a loss to the Rays has a near perfect 8-1 TSR following an outing in which he gave up =>5 runs. If that were not enough, Yankees are on a 6-1 stretch in interleague with Sabathias, Braves are on an 0-6 skid at home vs a left-handed starter.

Los Angeles Angels at Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels one of the best from the Junior Circuit in inter-league visit Los Angeles Dodgers one of the worst from the Senior League. Halos have won 4-of-6 this year during inter-league action bringing their mark to 66-30 (68.8%) over the past five plus seasons. LAD is 2-1 against the Juniors this season, 31-50 (38.3%) since 2007. Looking at the last 30 games in the Freeway Series LAA owns a commanding 20-10 mark outscoring LAD 140-91 (1.6 per/game) in winning 10-of-15 both at home and Dodger Stadium with the total pretty even at 16-13-1 O/U. The past three years LAA has won 12-of-18 encounters (10-8 O/U) with most of the damage right in LAD's back yard (7-2, 5-4 O/U). LAA barely playing over .500 ball this season at 32-29 and LAD tops in the majors at 39-22 along with a major league best 21-9 at home LAA's series dominance could take a hit.
White Sox - Cardinals Series Preview
Sportspic.com
With the defending American League Central champion Detroit Tigers adding Prince Fielder to their roster in the offseason, and the AL East absolutely stacked once again, the Chicago White Sox were considered an afterthought as a playoff team heading in to this season. However, through the first two months of the year, the White Sox are right there on top of the AL Central, looking to prove their merit after years of inconsistency and underachieving. Next up for Chicago is a three-game set against the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals, a team that after a fast bet on sports start has really struggled of late.
Chicago White Sox @ St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals spent most of the first two months on top of the National League Central, but their inconsistencies have caught up to them in recent sports betting Pick weeks, allowing both the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates to overtake them. While St. Louis still ranks third in the majors in runs scored, their pitching has been a bit of a problem with a combined 4.02 ERA that ranks in the bottom half of the majors. The Cardinals will look to get back on track in this series for what was considered to be a strength this season, with one of their main pitchers back on the mound in Adam Wainwright. Wainwright has struggled mightily with inconsistency this season, as illustrated by a 4.97 ERA that reached as high as 9.88 at times this year. Jose Quintana looked solid for the White Sox in his last start after moving from the bullpen to the rotation, allowing just two earned runs over six innings despite getting the loss against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Pick: Chicago White Sox
Chicago White Sox @ St. Louis Cardinals
After what should be another quality start from Quintana, Chicago will come right back at the Cardinals with Jake Peavy getting the call for game two of the series as they look to take the advantage in another pitching matchup. Peavy is 6-1 on the year with a 3.05 ERA, and the White Sox have won in four of his last five starts. However, this time St. Louis will be able to counter with 25-year old Lance Lynn looking to extend what has been an excellent second season. Lynn is 8-2 with a 2.63 ERA, and has held opponents to two runs or less in eight of his 11 starts.
Pick: St. Louis Cardinals
Chicago White Sox @ St. Louis Cardinals
This series will wrap up the way it started for the Cardinals, with one of their bigger name pitchers back on the mound still looking to find his consistency. Jake Westrbook has really struggled of late, giving up at least five earned runs in three straight starts against teams from the NL East, and St. Louis has lost the last five online sportsbook games that he has started. Fortunately for the Cardinals, the White Sox will counter with Gavin Floyd, who has allowed a ridiculous 26 combined runs in his last 19.2 innings of work.
Pick St. Louis Cardinals
