Wednesday's Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers
By Covers.com

Streaking

Lucas Harrell, Houston Astros (4-3, 3.72 ERA)

Harell showed up Clayton Kershaw in his last start, allowing just one run on five singles over 7 1/3 innings of a 3-1 win. He didn’t strike out a batter and walked three, but only needed 94 pitches to get the job done thanks to his dirty sinker. Harell forced the Dodgers into 17 groundball outs and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in his last four trips to the hill.

Yovani Gallardo, Milwaukee Brewers (3-4, 4.19 ERA)

If it weren’t for two rotten starts, Gallardo’s numbers would be much better. He just allowed one run over 7 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking three in a win over Arizona. The victory was Gallardo’s eighth quality start of the season and has thrown at least six innings in each of his last five turns in the rotation.

Slumping

Ian Kennedy, Arizona Diamondbacks (3-5, 4.65 ERA)

Kennedy finished with five losses last season, but has already eclipsed that number before June this year. He was smacked for four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-1 loss to Milwaukee. Kennedy gave up two taters and has now yielded seven homers in his last four starts.

Jon Lester, Boston Red Sox (3-4, 4.72 ERA)

Lester’s up-and-down season continues. He allowed seven earned runs and three home runs in last week’s 7-4 loss to the Rays, throwing 48 strikes in his 81 pitches. He won his two previous starts before that, but allowed eight hits in each and allowed four runs in five innings against Philadelphia.

MLB: Streaks, Tips, Notes

Philadelphia Phillies at NY Mets

When Philadelphia send Cliff Lee to the mound against Mets Dillon Gee in this rubber match they'll have conditions on their side. Phillies are on a sparkling 11-1 road streak with the southpaw against a team with a winning record. Phillies are on a 5-2 stretch in game-three rubber matches with the hurler. With New York on a 1-4 skid at home with Dillon Gee look for Mets to fall to 5-13 vs a left-handed starter

Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins

The N.L. East leading Washington Nationals platting twenty runs in sweeping Atlanta Braves over the weekend have had little luck at the plate in their first two games against the Miami Marlins. Crossing three in an opening loss then managing just a single run in Tuesday's loss things won't get any easier for Nationals when they complete the three game set. Marlins ridding an MLB-Best 20-8 mark in the month of May stuffing +$969 into betting accounts have Josh Johnson (2-3, 4.87 ERA) heading to the hill in the finale. Marlins are not only on a 5-0 streak with J.J. this month the Marlins are on a 13-3 stretch in the hurlers last 16 May starts including a near perfect 7-1 at home. If that were not enough to back Marlins consider that Johnson is a perfect 7-0 vs Nationals in 14 starts (10-4 TSR). Look for Nationals to fall to 1-6 attempting to avoid a road sweep, 1-4 on the road after consecutive losses.
