Preview: Mets at Rockies
Gracenote
Jun 20, 2018

After getting outslugged in back-to-back contests, the Colorado Rockies turned the tables in their last outing. Colorado looks to make it two wins in a row for the first time in two weeks when it hosts the New York Mets on Wednesday for the third contest of their four-game series.

The Rockies, who dropped a 13-12 decision at Texas on Sunday and fell 12-2 a day later in the series opener to extend their franchise-record home losing streak to eight games, snapped a tie Tuesday with a six-run third inning and went on to post a 10-8 victory. Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story and Ian Desmond hit consecutive homers in the huge frame, marking the eighth time in franchise history Colorado belted three shots in a row and first since May 27, 2010. New York had its three-game winning streak halted and fell to 3-5 on its 10-game road trip as it allowed double digits in runs for the first time since May 26, when it suffered a 17-6 loss at Milwaukee. Brandon Nimmo looks to remain hot for the Mets as he's gone 10-for-19 with three homers and seven RBIs over his last four contests.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Seth Lugo (2-2, 2.49 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Chad Bettis (5-1, 4.65)

Lugo will be making his his third straight start and fourth overall in place of the injured Noah Syndergaard. The 28-year-old Lugo suffered his first loss while in the rotation on Friday, when he was tagged for five runs and eight hits over five innings at Arizona. Lugo, who came out of the bullpen to toss three scoreless innings against Colorado on May 4, is 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA in one start and two relief appearances versus the Rockies during his career.

Bettis has surrendered five runs in each of his last four starts for an 8.44 ERA but is 1-0 in that span. The 29-year-old Texan picked up that victory in his home state on Friday despite yielding those five runs on six hits - two homers - and three walks over 5 2/3 innings against the Rangers. Bettis is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in three career starts and one relief appearance against Colorado, with the win coming on May 5 as he scattered six hits over seven scoreless frames in New York.
