MLB FREE PICK: Take San Francisco. According to latest MLB trends, San Francisco is: 11-5 in Cain's last 16 start as a dog, 5-1 last 6 road games with a 7.0-8.5 total set and 4-1 in Cain's last 5 starts vs. Phillies. Phillies are 1-9 last 10 overall, 6-16 in Hamels' last 22 starts and 0-9 last 9 vs. a right-handed starter.

The Giants broke a five-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 9-2 win at Philadelphia. Neither team made a deal right before the trade deadline and both will likely give their younger players a long look. The Phillies send Cole Hamels (4-13, 4.09 ERA), who is a hard-luck pitcher this year. The Phillies have scored two or fewer runs in nine of his last 22 starts. They lefty pitched well against Detroit in his last start, allowing two runs but the Phillies scored just one. Matt Cain (6-6, 4.79 ERA) has struggled at times this year, but is pitching well as of late. He has allowed a total of three earned runs ov er his last two outings. He is 1-4 with a 3.72 ERA in nine starts against the Phillies, while Hamels is 5-3 with a 4.14 ERA in 11 starts against the Giants. The Phillies have lost nine of their last 10 games and are scoring just 3.73 runs per game against right-handers. Expect the poor hitting to continue against Cain.
