MLB Picks and Predictions for Wednesday

Our team of writers and handicappers hand out their MLB picks and predictions for Wednesday, June 3.

San Francisco Giants at Washington Nationals, 7:05PM ET

San Francisco Giants pitcher Randy Johnson got his first win in his major league debut Sept. 15, 1988, while playing for the Montreal Expos.

More than two decades later, he's poised to make history by taking advantage of that struggling franchise, now the Washington Nationals.

Johnson looks to become the 24th pitcher to reach 300 wins as the Giants continue a three-game road series against the woeful Nationals on Wednesday night.

At 45 years old, Johnson (4-4, 5.71 ERA) owns a World Series ring and co-MVP honors to go along with five Cy Young awards. The 10-time All-Star has thrown two no-hitters, including the majors' last perfect game in 2004, and ranks second on the career strikeout list with 4,843.

Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners, 10:10PM ET

Ichiro Suzuki's hitting streak is now a franchise record. He'll try to continue his outstanding run, and help the Seattle Mariners win a series from the Baltimore Orioles for the first time in almost two years.

The Mariners look to accomplish that feat Wednesday night when the teams conclude their three-game series at Safeco Field.

Suzuki extended his hitting streak to 26 games on Tuesday, collecting two hits to help Seattle (25-28) to an 8-2 victory over Baltimore (24-29). That came a night after the right fielder kept the run alive by getting one of the Mariners' two hits in a 1-0 loss in the series opener.

The eight-time All-Star is hitting .400 (46 for 115) with three homers during the streak, which is his seventh of at least 20 games since he arrived in Seattle for the 2001 season. He's raised his batting average 62 points to .353 to rank third in the AL.

Colorado Rockies at Houston Astros, 8:05PM ET

Miguel Tejada's best power-hitting days are probably behind him. The Houston Astros shortstop, however, isn't having any problems finding ways to make an impact with his bat.

After extending his longest hitting streak in nearly five years and delivering a walkoff home run, Tejada looks to continue his recent surge as the Astros go for their season-high fourth straight win Wednesday night against the Colorado Rockies.

Tejada is batting .463 (31 for 67) during a 16-game hitting streak, his longest since a 19-game run from June 15-July 4, 2004, while with Baltimore. He had four hits Tuesday, including an 11th-inning home run that gave Houston (22-28) a 3-2 win and its first walkoff victory this season.

That was only the sixth homer of the year for Tejada, who's hit at least 30 four times. The four-time All-Star has strung together four straight multihit games and leads the NL with 75 hits and a .362 batting average.
