MLB Power Rankings - Red Sox take over top spot
By Sportspic

There all sorts of things on the menu for the casual bettor including tennis betting at Wimbledon and golf odds still relevant with the British Open coming up, but let’s stick with the summer sport, baseball, and divulge our power rankings of how the teams stand:

1. (2) Boston Red Sox (43-27)

Jason Bay is mashing (third in the MLB in RBI’s) and the loss of Manny and the struggles of David Ortiz don’t seem to be a big issue. Dice-K is also struggling, yet this team just keeps on winning. If Big Papa and Dice-K can wake up, this is a very dangerous team.

2. (1) Los Angeles Dodgers (45-24)

No Manny, some problems. The Dodgers are still a very good team in baseball but until Manny Ramirez gets back in the lineup, which will be soon, this team just isn’t as lethal. They could regain the top spot when he comes back.

3. (12) Texas Rangers (37-32)

Let’s not rain on their parade. We’ll keep them in the top-three for a week just to make them feel better. We all know they are going to fall apart shortly and it’s already started.

4. (4) New York Yankees (38-32)

Yankees are churning out the runs at a healthy rate but they need the pitching to stabilize before they become a serious power player.

5. (7) St. Louis Cardinals (40-32)

The Cardinals keep on plugging away and it’s hard not to like them given the injuries they have faced in the pitching staff. Look for them to bounce back and climb a bit higher once everyone is healthy.

6. (3) Philadelphia Phillies (37-31)

World Series champs get swept by the Toronto Blue Jays and apparently have some issues playing at home. Baseball wagering handicappers have made a lot of money betting against the Phillies at Citizens Ballpark this year.

7. (5) Los Angeles Angels (37-32)

The Angels have finally pulled even with the Texas Rangers in the West but something still doesn’t seem right in LA. Their goal is to get past the first round of the playoffs and while they have a good team, they aren’t good enough to win a World Series.

8. (9) San Francisco Giants (38-32)

The San Francisco Giants are that little engine that could. Their price per head has been increasing in the World Series odds and a lot of bettors are starting to realize that this team has the pitching to win it all.

9. (10) Detroit Tigers (39-31)

The Detroit Tigers still lead the way in the American League Central and are winners of five straight. Even so, their house is built on a shaky foundation as pitching isn’t their forte.

10. (16) Colorado Rockies (37-34)

The Colorado Rockies have been a popular sports pick this week as they are the hottest team in the Majors. They had won 17 of 18 and nine straight on the road prior to a loss in Anaheim on Tuesday night.

11. Milwaukee Brewers (37-33)

12. Chicago Cubs (34-33)

13. Cincinnati Reds (34-35)

14. Toronto Blue Jays (39-33)

15. New York Mets (35-34)

16. Tampa Bay Rays (37-35)

17. Minnesota Twins (36-36)

18. Seattle Mariners (35-35)

19. Atlanta Braves (34-35)

20. Houston Astros (32-36)

21. Baltimore Orioles (32-38)

22. Pittsburgh Pirates (31-37)

23. Chicago White Sox (32-36)

24. Florida Marlins (34-36)

25. Kansas City Royals (29-38)

26. Oakland Athletics (30-37)

27. Washington Nationals (20-46)

28. Arizona Diamondbacks (29-40)

29. Cleveland Indians (29-41)

30. San Diego Padres (29-38)
