Tips and Trends

New York Mets at Chicago Cubs

Mets: The 33 year-old veteran Nelson Figueroa has made a splash in the rotation in his first 2 ?fill-in? starts this season: just 4 earned runs allowed in 13 innings pitched. Both starts turned into New York victories, including last time out against the Nationals. Figueroa allowed just 2 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings, and New York manager Willie Randolph said: ?We have to tip our cap to him.? However, this will be the right-hander's first road start since the 2004 season, and he holds an 0-3 lifetime mark with a 3.97 ERA against the Cubs.

The OVER is 11-4 in New York's last 15 road games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Cubs (-115): Cubs starter Ted Lilly seems to have lost his 15-game winning form of 2007. The southpaw enters this contest 0-3 with 9.16 ERA here in ?08 and has failed to pitch past the 6th inning. Lilly said: ?I?m just losing patience at this point? after allowing 5 runs over 6 innings in his most recent start against the Reds. The California native is 1-1 lifetime against the Mets with a 4.67 ERA in 3 starts.

Cubs are 10-2 in their last 12 games as a favorite.
The OVER is 10-2-1 in the last 13 meetings.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox

Angels: Angels starter Jered Weaver still hasn?t returned to that dominant form he showed during his rookie season of 2006. Weaver finished ?07 with a 3.91 ERA and is currently sporting a 3.60 ERA after posting an earned run average in the mid-two?s in his first year. The lanky right-hander is already 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 2 road starts this season, compared to 1.38 ERA at home in 2 starts. Weaver said he ?feels like he is making the same pitches? but the numbers don?t lie.

Angels are 6-2 in their last 8 road games.
Angels are 7-2 in their last 9 Tuesday games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Red Sox (-170, O/U 9): Red Sox starter Josh Beckett looks to be getting stronger as he continues to work his back into shape. The right-hander is coming off of back-to-back victories over the Yankees in which he allowed just 6 earned runs over 14+ innings of work. Beckett is 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA against the Angels during his career and hasn?t suffered a loss at Fenway since September of last year.

Red Sox are 21-7 in their last 28 games overall.
Red Sox are 20-6 in the last 26 meetings at Boston.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox

Yankees (-135, O/U 9.5): Chien-Ming Wang has been the one Yankees starter who is getting the job done this season. Wang has secured his spot as one of the game?s elite pitcher with a 3-0 record and 3.81 ERA so far this season. Wang has also been a thorn in the side of Chicago, going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in 3 career starts against the Sox.

The UNDER is 13-3 in New York's last 16 games as a favorite.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

White Sox: Jose Contreras is only 2-4 facing his old team but the one-time Yankee actually hasn?t pitched poorly in those games. Contreras has 27 strikeouts compared to only 10 walks and a respectable ERA of 3.96 in 38 2/3 innings pitched against the Yankees. Contreras performed well in his last outing, allowing only 4 hits and 1 run in a 3-1 win over Baltimore.

White Sox are 8-2 in their last 10 games as an underdog.
White Sox are 3-7 in their last Tuesday games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks

Giants: San Francisco starter Barry Zito claimed he had changed his delivery for the better in Spring Training, but so far the results aren't working out. The left-hander is 0-4 with a 4.50 ERA this season, and he hasn?t pitched further than the 6th inning. The Giants haven?t won yet this season with Zito on the hill, and they are giving the Las Vegas native less than 1 run of support per game. The southpaw is 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA during his career against the Diamondbacks.

Giants are 6-18 in their last 24 road games.
Giants are 2-10 in the last 12 meetings at Arizona.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Diamondbacks (-240, O/U 7.5): Arizona starter Brandon Webb has been the polar opposite of Zito. The 2006 Cy Young Award Winner is 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA so far this season. The right-hander has been described by many hitters as ?filthy? and his 22 strikeouts in 4 starts proves this. Webb is 10-5 lifetime vs. San Francisco with a 3.17 ERA.

Diamondbacks are 13-3 in their last 16 games overall.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
