MLB Tips and Trends

Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox

Angels: LA's Jon Garland will try to turn things around against the Red Sox, who have hit him hard during his career. Garland is just 3-5 lifetime vs. Boston with a 5.53 ERA, and the Sox are hitting .291 against him. He lost his last road start at Seattle back on April 12th, giving up 6 runs and 12 hits in 5 innings with 1 walk and no strikeouts.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Red Sox (-175, O/U 10): Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka has gotten a lot of run support at Fenway Park in his last 3 starts, as the Red Sox have outscored the opposition 24-8. That's been plenty to get him wins each time even though he has not pitched a full 6 innings in either of his last 2 outings. Dice-K is 3-0 at home this season with a 3.71 ERA.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Philadelphia Phillies at Milwaukee Brewers

Phillies (-150, O/U 8.5): Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels has been a workhorse this season, pitching 7+ innings in all 4 of his starts on the season. The southpaw is supporting a stellar 1.86 ERA over 29 innings pitched. However, Hamels did allow 5 runs in his last start against the Mets on April 18th and called it his ?worst performance? of the year. The San Diego native hasn?t received a decision in 2 career starts at Milwaukee, but he has allowed 8 runs in just 13+ innings of work of those 2 games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Brewers: Milwaukee starter Dave Bush has been abysmal so far this season, posting an 0-3 mark with a 7.02 ERA in just 3 starts. Bush said he ?felt good? in his last start, but with his 7+ ERA he is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation according to team insiders. The right-hander allowed 5 earned runs in just 5 innings of work in his last home start against these Phils last season.

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Key Injuries - NONE

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox

Yankees: Mike Mussina is now just a shadow of the pitcher he once was. The Moose is 1-3 on the season with an unimpressive 5.75 ERA. Mussina has allowed 9 runs in his last 8 innings pitched. The one thing Mussina still does well is he has good control. Moose has only walked 3 batters in 20 1/3 innings pitched this season.

Key Injuries - 3B Alex Rodriguez (.308; birth of daughter) is NOT expected to rejoin the team until Thursday.

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

White Sox (-140, O/U 9.5): Javier Vazquez is off to a fast start for a White Sox pitching staff that?s been a pleasant surprise early in the year. Vazquez has only allowed 5 runs in his last 20 innings of work. However, the one-time Yankee has struggled against his former team, going 1-3 with a 5.25 ERA versus the Bombers.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Arizona Diamondbacks at Los Angeles Dodgers

Diamondbacks: Arizona starter Dan Haren has made a splash in his first 4 starts of the season with his new team. Haren is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA on this young season and has shown great command, striking out 19 while walking just 4. This will be his first start at Dodger Stadium since his rookie season in 2003, where he got a 3-1 victory for the Cardinals, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Dodgers (-120, O/U 8): LA starter Derek Lowe will look to bounce back from his worst outing of the season. The right-hander allowed 5 runs in just 4+ innings, getting rocked once again by his nemesis in Braves 3B Chipper Jones. The right-hander is one of the better Dodger starters at home and holds a 1.93 ERA in 2 starts there already this season. Lowe received a win in his last home start against these D-Backs, allowing just 1 earned run over 7 innings last season.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
