Tips and Trends

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox [7:05 PM ET]

Rays: Matt Garza has been a revelation for the Rays this season, going 4-1 with a 3.78 ERA. However, he's been much more effective at home than on the road. Garza is perfect at home this season but away from Tropicana Field he's just 1-1 with 5.64 ERA in four starts. Garza has only given up more than three runs twice this season and both of those outings were on the road. Five of the last six games with Garza on the mound have gone UNDER the total.

Key Injuries - NONE

Red Sox (-125, O/U 9): Justin Masterson will be making his third career start on Tuesday, going 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA in his first two. In 12.1 innings pitched this season, Masterson has given up just five hits and two runs, although he has walked seven batters over that span. This will be Masterson's first appearance against the Rays.

Key Injuries - NONE

Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees [7:05 PM ET]

Blue Jays: Roy Halladay is really in a grove right now, winning four of his last six outings. In his last 19.1 innings pitched, Halladay has allowed just two runs. As usual, control is the key to Halladay's success. In 89 innings of work this season, Halladay has walked just 11 batters, while striking out 71. Halladay has owned the Yankees over his career, going 10-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 25 starts against New York.

Key Injuries - NONE

Yankees (-125, O/U 8): The day Yankee fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. After dominating as a set up man, Joba Chamberlain will be making his first career start in the majors. To prepare for this start, Chamberlain has been throwing 60-70 pitches per outing on the side. He'll be on a tight pitch count of 65-70 pitches tonight, so the Yankees bullpen will likely play a role in the game's outcome. In 10 appearances as a relief pitcher, Chamberlain is 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA.

Key Injuries - NONE

Arizona Diamondbacks at Milwaukee Brewers [8:05 PM ET]

Diamondbacks (-125, O/U 9): Randy Johnson has pitched well in his last two starts but he didn't factor in either decision, as Arizona lost both games. In his last 13 innings of work, Johnson has allowed just three runs, while striking out 24. Johnson has been money against the Brewers in his career, going 18-7 with an ERA of 3.44. The Big Unit has been close to unhittable on the road this season, sporting a 1.06 ERA in three starts away from home.

Key Injuries - NONE

Brewers: Seth McClung will be making his third start of the season after splitting his first two outings. McClung started the year in the bullpen but was moved into the starting rotation two weeks ago. He's been average at best in his two starts, giving up eight runs over 9.2 innings pitched. McClung hasn't faired well at home, sporting a 10.45 ERA in five appearances. McClung has an ERA of 27 in one career outing against the Diamondbacks as a relief pitcher. In that appearance McClung allowed three hits and two runs in 0.2 innings of work.

Key Injuries - NONE

Los Angeles Angels at Seattle Mariners [10:10 PM ET]

Angels: LA's Joe Saunders is coming off his worst start of the season, giving up five runs and seven hits in five innings of a 6-2 home loss to the Tigers on Wednesday. The Angels had won eight of his previous nine starts, and he has been very solid away from home this season. Saunders is 4-1 on the road with a stellar 1.87 ERA, and he is 3-1 lifetime vs. Seattle with an inflated 5.67 ERA.

The UNDER is 14-3-1 in LA's last 18 road games.

Key Injuries - 3B Chone Figgins (.306; hamstring) is on the 15-day DL.

Mariners (-130, O/U 7.5): Seattle's Erik Bedard is coming off his most dominant start of the season, pitching seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over Boston on Wednesday. That victory came at home, where he has been a dominant 3-1 in five starts with a 1.34 ERA. However, the Angels have been a thorn in Bedard's side throughout his career. He is just 1-3 lifetime vs. LA in five starts with a 6.18 ERA.

Key Injuries - NONE

New York Mets at San Francisco Giants [10:15 PM ET]

Mets (-140, O/U 8.5): New York's Pedro Martinez is scheduled to return against the Giants, a team he has enjoyed a lot of success against during his career. Martinez is 9-2 lifetime vs. San Francisco with a 3.59 ERA and will be making his first start since April 1st at Florida, when he surrendered four runs and four hits in 3.1 innings of a 5-4 loss. He suffered a left hamstring strain in that game and has been on the road to recovery ever since then.

Key Injuries - NONE

Giants: San Francisco has won two straight with Barry Zito on the mound after losing each of his first nine starts. Part of the recent turnaround for Zito can be attributed to run support. The Giants scored three runs or less in eight of his first nine outings - totaling 13 runs during that stretch - and they have scored 12 combined in his last two starts. It also helps that he has notched more strikeouts than walks in each of his last two outings after totaling more walks in four of his previous six starts. Zito is unbeaten in two career starts against the Mets, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA. However, he is 0-5 at home with a 5.88 ERA.

Key Injuries - NONE
