Tips and Trends

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox [NESN | 6:05 PM ET]

Rays: The Rays have won James Shields' last three starts, although he hasn't factored in any of the decisions. Shields has been average in those three outings, giving up nine runs in 21.2 innings of work. He's been much tougher at home than on the road this season. In five road starts, Shields is just 1-2 with a 6.04 ERA. Traveling to Fenway Park may not help Shields get over his road woes. In six career starts versus the Red Sox, Shields is just 1-3 with an ERA of 4.76.

Key Injuries - NONE

Red Sox (-130, O/U 9 ): Jon Lester is starting to put it all together but he still struggles with his control. Despite sporting a 3.67 ERA this season, Lester has walked 36 batters in 76 innings pitched. Lester is in a bit of a two-game funk since pitching his no-hitter against the Royals. In his last 10 innings pitched, Lester has allowed 14 hits and seven runs. Lester has been tough at home, going 2-1 with a strong 2.72 ERA in six starts at Fenway Park.

Key Injuries - NONE

Florida Marlins at Atlanta Braves [7:10 PM ET]

Marlins: Ricky Nolasco is on top of his game right now, winning three straight and four of his last five starts. Nolasco had a rough start to the season but has been able to turn things around, allowing just nine runs is his last 29.1 innings pitched. Nolasco has done some of his best work on the road, going 4-1 with a 3.99 ERA in seven starts. Despite the fact that Nolasco has pitched well in his last five outings, four of those games have come in OVER the total.

Key Injuries - NONE

Braves (-155, O/U 9.5): Teams haven't had much luck when facing Jair Jurrjens at Turner Field this season. In six home starts, Jurrjens is a perfect 4-0 with an impressive 2.06 ERA. Jurrjens has given up three runs or less in 10 of his 12 starts but he's coming off his worst outing of the year against the Reds, where he gave up six walks and six runs in just 4.1 innings of work. The last three games Jurrjens has started have easily soared OVER the total.

Key Injuries - NONE

Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers [8:05 PM ET]

Indians (-125, O/U 10): This isn't the way C.C. Sabathia and the Indians envisioned the season going. He's just 3-7 with a 4.72 ERA. Sabathia has actually pitched pretty well in his last three outings but has gone 0-2 with one no decision. Over that three-game span, Sabathia has given up seven runs in 22 innings of work. Sabathia could get well against the Rangers, a team he's 7-2 against over his career. Despite Sabathia's poor record, the UNDER has cashed in his last seven starts.

Key Injuries - NONE

Rangers: Kevin Millwood has been inconsistent this year but the high-scoring Rangers have still won four of the last five games he's started. Millwood is perfect at home this season going 3-0 in six starts, although his ERA is a less than imposing 4.65. The OVER has been a moneymaking proposition with Millwood on the mound this year, cashing in six of his last seven starts.

Key Injuries - NONE

Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers [10:10 PM ET]

Cubs: There aren't a lot of people who thought Ryan Dempster would be 7-2 with a dazzling 2.75 ERA at this point in the season. Dempster has been of baseball's biggest surprises, contributing to a strong Cubs rotation. Dempster has given up three runs or less in nine of 12 starts this season. While Dempster has been unbeatable at home, he's had bad luck on the road, going 0-2 in four starts despite sporting a 2.08 ERA. Five of Dempster's last six starts have come in UNDER the total.

Key Injuries - NONE

Dodgers (-125, O/U 7.5): The Dodgers have lost Chad Billingsley's last two starts but it's been far from his fault. Billingsley gave up just two runs in 13 innings but came away with a loss and a no decision. The loss was a 3-1 defeat to the Cubs at Wrigley Field, a game where Billingsley allowed just four hits while striking out seven. Don't expect to se a lot of runs scored when Billingsley takes the hill. The UNDER is 6-0 in his last six starts.

Key Injuries - NONE
