Tips and Trends

Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers

Red Sox: Despite the fact that it seems like he's been pitching since World War II, Tim Wakefield can still get the job done. Wakefield gives the Sox a lot of innings, a luxury most teams don't get from their fourth starter. Wakefield already faced Detroit once this season, getting the win after allowing just 2 runs in 5 innings pitched. One troublesome stat from that game was Wakefield's 5 walks. In 6 starts this year, Wakefield has walked 21 batters compared to 19 strikeouts.

Red Sox are 30-14 in the last 44 meetings.
The UNDER is 8-3-2 in the last 13 meetings.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Tigers (-115, O/U 9.5): Nate Robertson has been an opposing batter's best friend so far this year, giving up 42 hits and 26 runs over 34 1/3 innings pitched. In Robertson's lone outing against the Sox, he took the loss after giving up 8 hits and 4 runs through 5 1/3 innings. Robertson hasn't had much luck against Boston in his career either, going 2-4 with a 6.46 ERA.

Tigers are 6-3 in their last 9 home games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees

Indians: Fausto Carmona will try to win for the third time in 4 starts when he takes the mound against the Yankees. Carmona allowed 1 earned run last time out against Seattle only to see the team's bullpen give up 5 runs in the ninth inning. He is 0-1 in 2 road starts this season with a 3.27 ERA and 0-1 in 2 starts against the Yankees with a 3.86 ERA, failing to get a decision against them in last year's ALDS despite pitching 9 innings.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Yankees (-145, O/U 8.5): Andy Pettitte is expected to get the call in the series opener even though he has struggled against the Tribe during his career. Pettitte is 6-8 lifetime against the Indians with a 4.63 ERA and got rocked at Cleveland on April 25th. He surrendered 5 runs and 8 hits in 5 innings - including back-to-back homers in the 5th - to take the loss and then suffered another setback last time out at home against Detroit, falling to 0-2 there with a 6.55 ERA.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati Reds

Cubs (-130, O/U 8): Chicago ace Carlos Zambrano is making his third road start of the season, with mixed results in the previous 2. Zambrano threw 7 shutout innings in his last road start at Washington on April 26th, allowing just 5 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. He had lost his previous road start at Philadelphia on April 11th, giving up a season-high 5 runs and 9 hits for his only setback of 2008. He is 11-9 lifetime vs. Cincinnati with a 3.35 ERA.

Cubs are 12-5 in their last 17 games as a favorite.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Reds: Aaron Harang is just 1-4 on the season, but that's not all his fault. The crafty right-hander is sporting a very respectable 2.98 ERA, and has received just 3 runs of support per start. Harang hasn't allowed more than 2 runs in 3 home starts this season, but did get rocked for 5 runs at Wrigley back on April 15th in his last appearance against the Cubbies.

Reds are 3-9 in their last 12 games as an underdog.
Reds are 3-6 in their last 9 home games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers

Mets: Nelson Figueroa will try to earn his first road win at LA after losing at Chicago in his last start away from home. Figueroa is 0-1 on the road in 3 appearances (1 start) with a 6.43 ERA. He pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of Oliver Perez in an eventual 13-1 loss to Pittsburgh last Wednesday, giving up 1 run and 5 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD

Dodgers (-130, O/U 9): LA's Hiroki Kuroda is still searching for his first home win after going 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA in 2 starts at Dodger Stadium. Kuroda got pounded for 5 runs and 9 hits in 6 innings of an 8-7 win over Colorado there on April 25th. He pitched better last time out at Florida in a 5-3 win, allowing 3 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings with no walks and 4 strikeouts.

Dodgers are 9-1 in their last 10 games overall.
The OVER is 7-1 LA's last 8 home games.

Key Injuries - NONE

PROJECTED SCORE: TBD
