Tips and Trends

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox

White Sox: The combination of playing on the road and playing against Boston hasn’t been kind for the White Sox. Chicago has dropped 15 of its last 20 away contests. The White Sox also have lost 13 of their last 16 games against the Red Sox. Poor defense has hurt Chicago. The White Sox have committed an AL-worst 96 errors that have led to a league-high 62 unearned runs. The White Sox are going with Gavin Floyd on the mound. Floyd is 10-8 with a 3.98 ERA. The right-hander looked sharp early in his last start, giving up just one run in seven innings to Baltimore last Friday. But the Orioles got to him for three runs in the eighth. Floyd ended up going 7 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Floyd is 2-0 versus Boston with a 5.74 ERA in three appearances.

The Under is 11-4 in the White Sox last 15 games.

Key Injuries - Jake Peavy (ankle) is on the DL.

PROJECTED SCORE: 5

Red Sox (-$1.40, O/U 9 over -$1.25): Knuckleball specialist Tim Wakefield is set to make his first start since July 8, following a long stint on the DL because of lower back and calf aliments. The 43-year-old right-hander is 7-11 with a 5.11 ERA in 28 career appearances versus the White Sox. Wakefield is 11-3 on the season with a 4.31 ERA. He is 7-0 at home with a 3.62 ERA compared to 4-3 with a 4.78 ERA on the road. Boston has scored 71 runs in its last eight games, while hitting 17 home runs. Boston has plated at least 11 runs in three of its past five contests. Dustin Pedroia is hot going 9-for-21 (.428) with six doubles in his last five games. Boston is 40-18 in its last 58 games at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have defeated the White Sox in seven of their last eight home contests.

The Over has cashed in 11 of Boston’s last 13 home games.

Key Injuries - Jed Lowrie (arm) is on the DL.

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (OVER - Total of the Day)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies

Dodgers(-$1.35, O/U 10 under -$1.15): After opening a bulging nine-game lead in the National League West Division on July 25, the Dodgers have been below .500 losing 17 of their last 29 games. Los Angeles, though, is 13-4 in its last 17 games versus Colorado. The Dodgers have captured five of their last seven games at Coors Field. Los Angeles is 49-23 in its last 72 division matchups. They have a hot pitcher going, too. Randy Wolf (8-6, 3.34 ERA) has a 1.99 ERA in his last three starts. The southpaw hasn’t surrendered more than four earned runs in any of his past 11 starts. He has a 15-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his past two games, facing the Diamondbacks and Cubs. Wolf will have to be sharp, though, pitching at Coors Field, a hitter’s paradise. The Rockies have defeated a left-handed starter in 12 of their last 13 home contests.

The Under is 8-3-1 in the Dodgers’ last 12 road contests.

Key Injuries - Hiroki Kuroda (head) is on the DL.

PROJECTED SCORE: 6 (Side of the Day)

Rockies: Colorado has been one of the hottest home clubs going 27-10 in its last 37 games at Coors Field. The Rockies are hoping right-hander Josh Fogg can step up in his first start of the season. Fogg has been a long reliever since coming up from the minors in late May. He’s replacing Aaron Cook, who was put on the DL with a sore right shoulder. Fogg has pitched well in the bullpen, holding foes to a .186 batting average, the best mark among Colorado relief pitchers. Fogg has been tagged for more than one earned run only one time in 20 appearances this season. Fogg was 3-1 with a 5.80 ERA in eight starts in Triple A before getting the call up. The Rockies are short outfielders with Dexter Fowler on the DL and Carlos Gonzalez unable to swing the bat because of a hand injury.

The Rockies are 26-12 in their last 38 games as a home underdog.

Key Injuries - Dexter Fowler (knee) is on the DL.
Carlos Gonzalez (hand) is day-to-day.

PROJECTED SCORE: 5
