30 Dime ---- Phillies-Padres OVER
Phillies-Padres OVER --- It's been a while since I've released a TOTAL play, but I just can't help myself today... this one is too good to be true. Vegas has looked at the Phillies lack of offense recently combined with the fact the Padres really aren't a run-producing team at home, and have listed this total much lower than it should be without regard to who the starting pitchers are.First off, let's be real, we all know the Phillies are capable of scoring runs at will with Rollins, Utley, Ibanez, Howard, etc. This offense is loaded with talent and, despite their lack of production recently, they're capable of going over the total by themselves. The Phils have averaged over 6 runs per game on the road this year, not to mention the fact that all three games previously this year with San Diego went over tonight's posted total (8 as of the time of this writing). In that three-game series in Philadelphia back in April, these were the final scores: 5-4, 8-5 and 8-7. Granted, tonight's starting pitchers didn't throw in any of those games, but that might actually be a blessing in disguise. Neither pitcher tonight poses much of a threat and is clearly capable of allowing 4 or 5 runs in just a few innings of work.Joe Blanton was brought over from Oakland last year to help the Phils get over the hump, and although he wasn't great he did his job and you know the rest of the story. However, this season has been quite different for Blanton, as he currently sits with a 6.14 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP, and just hasn't been himself this season. Blanton has allowed four or more runs five separate times this season and two of his last three outings have been on the road and were not good (four and five ERs). Kevin Correia counters for San Diego, and he has been equally bad this season with his 5.11 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Correia's last start, at Arizona, lasted just over five innings where he allowed 9 hits and 6 ERs. Just once this year has Correia has pitched 7 innings, but as good as Philadelphia is, it's hard to imagine seeing him last more than five innings. This game is OVER by the 7th inning and you can rest easy the final two innings. One and only play of the day on the Phillies/Padres OVER the total.
