Monday ...
5 DIME ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (WITH Wellemeyer and Redding) -
St. Louis put together a solid sweep in its I-70 Series with the Royals, and will head to the Big Apple with enough momentum to nab its series opener with the Mets. Exploding for 29 runs in Kansas City, the Cardinals should have no trouble keeping the offense alive against New York’s Tim Redding. He’s not only seen his innings production reduce down to five innings, but his earned runs allowed has increased each start in June as well. Last Wednesday he allowed four earned runs in five innings at Baltimore. He’s also 0-1 at home with an inflated 8.18 ERA.And once we get our lead, we can bank on Todd Wellemeyer to hold it for us. He’s 3-1 on the road this season, much better than his 3-5 home mark. And he comes in off a solid effort against the Tigers, having given up just two earned runs in five innings of work. Though I’d normally be worried his durability has diminished this month, after lasting seven innings against Colorado on the 6th, six frames in Florida on the 11th and then the five against Detroit last Wednesday, I’m sure the same concern is greater for the Mets.
St. Louis has now won five of their last six and is on winning runs of 6-2 on the road, 7-1 against right-handed starters, 11-5 against teams out of the National League East and 11-4 when facing winning teams.

Take St. Louis tonight.

TOM FREESE

SF Giants at Oakland A's
Pick: Oakland A's -140

Oakland is 80-33 their last 113 Interleague games as favorites and they are 7-1 their last 8 games as home favorites. The Athletics are 17-5 their last 22 Interleague home games vs. lefty starters and they are 4-1 with Trevor Cahill on the mound vs. a winning team. San Francisco is 9-24 their last 33 road games vs. teams with a winning home record. Starter Jonathan Sanchez is 3-9 in 12 starts this year incuding losing his last 3 starts. The Giants are 9-20 their last 29 Interleague road games. 10* PLAY ON OAKLAND - (Cahill vs. Sanchez)
