MR A

NBA
New Orleans Hornets - 4.5

MLB

Cincinnati Reds (21-23) at Los Angeles Dodgers (22-21)

Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo (2-4, 6.08) is 1-2 with a 3.48 ERA in six career appearances (5 starts) against the Dodgers
Los Angeles' Brad Penny (5-4, 5.09) is 7-2 with a 3.00 ERA in11 career starts against the Reds

The hot Cincinnati Reds have won their last six games overall, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have been struggling. Los Angeles has dropped seven of its last 10 games. However, the Dodgers have taken 11 of their last 14 games against Cincinnati and the last six at Dodger Stadium. Take the Dodgers! The Reds have lost seven of their last 8 games away from home and the last five versus right-hander Brad Penny.

Los Angeles Dodgers - 140

NBA Basketball
Hornets -4.5 over Spurs
Yes, the Spurs do have the experience and yes the Spurs are the defending Champs. This series has been about the home team and San Antonio in particular has looked awful in the second half in their games in New Orleans. The home teams have been so good in this round and New Orleans is a young team with enough energy to rattle any team. This should be a good game, but every game in this series is like history repeating itself. I do not see tonight being any different. Take the Hornets.

STRONG PICK 1*: Detroit Red Wings -135

History is not on the side of the Dallas Stars tonight. I had the Wings in this series, and I will double up tonight like I did yesterday with the Pens.

Evan Altemus

San Antonio Spurs vs. New Orleans Hornets
Pick: New Orleans Hornets

The home team has won every game in this series by double digits, and I expect that trend to continue tonight. The Hornets have had three days to rest David West and Tyson Chandler. Chandler showed no ill effects in game 6, and West was able to practice in a full scrimmage yesterday. New Orleans has more talent than San Antonio, but their youth is their achilles heel. However, playing at home gives them a lot of energy and motivation. The Hornets will play with a lot of emotion on their home court. I look for Chris Paul and David West to have huge games and lead them to a big win. San Antonio’s role players won’t give them the production they have been getting at home. Look for New Orleans to move on to the next round.

Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros (MLB)
Pick: Under

There are some underlying factors that make give this selection a lot of value. Chicago is known for being a high scoring team at home but it’s a different story on the road. They really struggled to score in their last few road series. Houston starter is a quality young starter who will be able to hold off the Cubs bats. Chicago’s starter, Ted Lilly, has been a big surprise to the Cubs rotation. He has been dominating, especially in his last two outings. He has 21 strikeouts in his last two games while not allowing four earned runs or more in his last several starts. Look for this game to fall easily under the total.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals
Pick: Washington Nationals

Brett Myers has been playing progressively worse as the season has gone on. He has really been hammered in his last three outings. His ERA in those starts is 7.71 while allowing two base runners on average per inning. He only lasted 16 innings total in those starts. Tim Redding meanwhile has pitched very well recently. The Phillies run production declines significantly on the road, especially against better pitchers. On a recent road trip, they only scored eight runs total in their games against Jonathan Sanchez, Brandon Webb, and Tim Linecum. Brett Myers struggles and the Phillies lack of offense on the road will be the keys to the Nationals winning this game.

Cincinnati Reds vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
Pick: Cincinnati Reds

Derek Lowe has been hammered all season, but especially recently. Meanwhile, Bronson Arroyo appears to be over his early season struggles, as he has pitched gems in his last two starts. The Reds are cruising now after sweeping the Indians and their aces Fausto Carmona and Cliff Lee. Look for them to win this game easily.

St Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres
Pick: St Louis Cardinals
