AMERICAN LEAGUE TOTAL OF THE WEEK
At 10:10pm our selection is on the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners 'under' the total. This is the first meeting of these two teams in 2008. Seattle has dominated Boston in its home park of Safeco Field recently, going 9-2 in the last 11 meetings there. The only problem for the Mariners is that none of these games has been during the postseason. Boston hasn't had a problem getting to the playoffs recently, but the Mariners certainly have and they have to be considered one of the most under-achieving teams in recent history. Every year there is hope that with their young pitching, experienced hitting (Ichiro has now been with Seattle for 8+ years), and strong management, the Mariners will contend for an Amercian League Championship and every year there is nothing but disappointment. Seattle hasn't had a sniff of the postseason since 2001, Ichiro's first year with the club and it doesn't look like they'll get there in '08 either. It's the old vs. the new righthanders in this game with 35 year-old Bartolo Colon facing off against 22 year-old "King" Felix Hernandez. The Sox took a chance in signing Colon and it looks like this risk could pay some nice dividends as Colon already has a very nice start under his belt in his first trip to the mound this season, and is heading back to a ballpark that has been very good to him in the past. Colon's ERA the last four seasons at Safeco field (with 2004 listed first) is 0.00, 1.13, 1.93, and 3.86 last year, even though Colon had horrible overall numbers due to injury. Take the 'Under'.
