Los Angeles +1.14 (3 Unit Play)

The Dodgers continue their run through the NL West as they take on the Rockies in Colorado. The Dodgers are off an uplifting 6-5 victory as they scored 5 runs off of closer Brandon Lyon yesterday and climbed into a first place tie with the Diamondbacks with that big win. The Rockies meanwhile are looking to repeat what they did last year and are off to a great start in the second half as they swept the Pirates four straight. Colorado will have Kip Wells on the mound as he is making his first appearance since being put on the DL with a blood clot problem but his numbers in the minors that he posted were shaky as he was 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. He also has struggled in his career against Los Angeles as in four career starts he is 0-3 with a 6.17 ERA. The Dodgers are counting on Eric Stults to turn around his recent fortunes and he has pitched well this year as well as in his career against the Rockies as he is 1-0 with a 2.38 ERA in five career appearances. I like the Dodgers here tonight.

Arizona +1.29 (3 Unit Play)

The Cubs won 9-0 yesterday behind a great performance from Dempster and now head further out west to take on the Diamondbacks who blew a big game yesterday. Arizona will pull out the old man tonight in Randy Johnson who has some of the most incredible numbers in his career against the Cubs that I think I have ever seen. Johnson is 12-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 13 career outings against Chicago although he hasn't pitched against them since 2004 but I can't pass up numbers like that regardless of teams. The Cubs have an excellent pitcher on the mound also in Rich Harden who was impressive in his first start for Chicago but he has never started in his career against Arizona. The Cubs are still only 21-28 on the road this year and although they scored nine runs yesterday five of them were in the ninth inning yesterday. Arizona has a winning record at home at 28-21 and I will take a shot with the underdog Diamondbacks here tonight.

NY Yankees -1.19 (3 Unit Play) & NY Yankees -1 1/2 Runs +1.68 (1.5 Unit Play)

The Yankees completed a sweep of the Oakland A's to start out the second half of the season while the Twins lost a tough game to Texas 1-0 to close out their three game set. The Twins have the best record in baseball since June 17th but have always had trouble playing at Yankee Stadium and they probably will not miss this place at all. The Twins have dropped 16 out of 19 games at New York and will look to Nick Blackburn to end some of their history with a good outing tonight. Blackburn has been a solid addition to the Twins rotation this year but his road ERA is nearly a run higher at 4.52 and he has never pitched at Yankee Stadium before which can be intimidating to young pitchers. On the hill for the Yankees is Sidney Ponson and he has been pitching very well for New York since they picked him up. Ponson has also had great success against the Twins in his career as he is 10-2 with a 2.45 ERA against them. The Yankees are the play here tonight in my opinion and I will make a smaller play on the run line as well.
