Monday comp play is the Under in the Astros-Twins game at Target Field.

Cold weather usually gives the pitchers the advantage over the hitters, and I will look for that to be the case when Justin Verlander and Lance Lynn lock-horns this evening.

Houston comes into this series opener having played 4 in a row, and 5 of their last 6 Under the total, while Minnesota has played 4 of their 7 games this season Under the posted price. Minny has also played Under in 7 of their last 10 games at Target Field dating back to last season.

Verlander is a career 17-9 versus the Twins with a 3.15 ERA. He is also 6-0 with a 1.38 ERA since donning his Houston uniform!

Lance Lynn looks to rebound from a rough outing in which he allowed 5 runs in the very first inning against the Pirates his last time out. I expect him to settle in tonight and attack the Houston hitters as he hooks up against Verlander in a pitcher's duel.

Play the Astros and the Twins Under the total.

3* HOUSTON-MINNESOTA UNDER

MLB | HOU vs MIN
Play on: UNDER 8½ -110

Free Pick on Astros/Twins UNDER

I'm recommending a play on the UNDER in Monday's MLB action that has the Twins hosting the Astros. Minnesota had their game on Sunday postponed because of cold weather and expected snow. While they are expecting to get this one in, the conditions aren't going to be ideal. Temps will be in the mid 30's with the wind chill in the 20's. That's going to make it tough on either offense to get going.

The Twins were already going to have a tough time, as Houston sends out ace Justin Verlander, who has a 2.31 ERA and 1.114 WHIP with 14 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings to start out 2018. Minnesota will counter with Lance Lynn, who is a crafty veteran that should bounce back from a poor showing on the road in his first start.

Note the UNDER is 20-7-1 in Houston's last 28 games played on Monday and 33-16-3 in their last 52 games vs a right-handed starter. UNDER is also 22-9 in Verlander's last 32 starts when taking the mound off a win. Take the UNDER!

NBA | Raptors vs Pistons
Play on: Pistons +4½ -105 at pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Detroit Pistons +4.5

The Detroit Pistons have no reason to tank because they cannot hurt or improve their positioning at this point with only two games remaining. They will be more concerned with finishing strong, and to bounce back from an embarrassing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies yesterday.

The Pistons were probably looking ahead to this game against the top seed in the East in the Toronto Raptors, who have nothing to play for. The Raptors are locked in to the No. 1 seed and will be looking to rest players, which came straight from the mouth of head coach Dwane Casey.

After Sunday’s 112-101 home victory over Orlando, he was commenting on OG Anunoby’s career-high 21 points and eight rebounds. "We needed it. He needed that," coach Dwane Casey said of Anunoby's outing. "We're trying to rest people. It's not like we totally need rest, but I feel like it's the prudent thing to do for our team."

The Pistons have gone 25-15 inside their new Little Caesars Arena this season. They lost in overtime to the Raptors at home on March 7th and want to avenge that defeat as well. The Raptors are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall. The Pistons are 7-1 ATS in their last eight home games. Bet the Pistons Monday.

MLB | Angels vs Rangers
Play on: Angels -126 at pinnacle

Play - L.A. Angels w/Richards vs Fister (game 969).

Edges - Angels: Richards: 8-3 $ last eleven games versus Texas, including 5-1 $ last five here… Rangers: Fister 1-6 $ last seven starts in April.. With Richards off a strong spring camp in which he posted a 1.18 WHIP and a 2.84 ERA, we recommend a 1* play in the Angels.

NBA | Bulls vs Nets
Play on: OVER 219½ -101

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NBA Game #705 Monday Free Pick OVER the total in Brooklyn Nets vs Chicago Bulls @ 7:35 ET - After opening up at a 221.5 this total has dropped under 220 and there is good value with the over in this one. These teams just met in Chicago on Saturday and, for record-keeping purposes for many, it went into the books as an under because it stayed under the closing total. However, from the time that total opened until less than an hour before tip off, anyone who played the over one with it. This does skew the stats a bit because many are looking at this game and the history between these teams and looking at the 5 straight unders in their meetings. However, Saturday's game was truly an over and it would have been the Bulls 4th straight over and the Nets are so hot from 3-point land and jacking them up that another high-scoring game can be expected here. The Bulls game plan is to beat them at their own game and I expect to see a ton of 3-pointers from both teams here as they look to outduel each other. It will be a livelier game than you might expect in a late season meeting between two 27-53 teams but that is because Chicago wasn't happy about Brooklyn seeming to have a bit too much fun in the win on Saturday. That said, the Bulls are going for the upset here but they don't have the defense to do it and that's why I am liking the total a lot in this one. Chicago has allowed 113 points per game their last 3 games. The Nets have allowed 113.9 points per game in their last 7 home games. Free Pick OVER the total in Brooklyn

MLB | Diamondbacks vs Giants
Play on: Diamondbacks -115 at 5Dimes

10* FREE MLB PICK (Diamondbacks -115)

I'll take my chances here with Arizona as a short road favorite. The Diamondbacks will be visiting the Giants, who are coming off a draining 2-game series against the Dodgers. Both games against LA went to extra innings and San Francisco's bullpen is shot right now. The starter for the Giants today is Derek Holland, who lasted just 5 innings in his first outing of 2018. He's not typically a guy you can count on for a long-outing, so even if he struggles early he could be left out there to eat up innings. Either that or Arizona gets a crack at a worn down bullpen. I also like Diamondbacks starter Zack Godley, who could be in for a big season. Godley out-pitched Kershaw in his first start, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings of a 6-1 win. I think he's worth riding early until we see some regression. Give me Arizona -115!

NBA | Pelicans vs Clippers
Play on: Pelicans -7½ -105 at pinnacle

This is a 1* Free Play on the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Clippers are going to miss the postseason for the first time in seven years. The Pelicans are in a three-way tie with an identical record in the log-jammed Western Conference and they can ill afford to take the foot off the gas now. Normally this may set up as a “letdown” spot for New Orleans after its big road victory at Golden State, but with so much on the line at this point, we’re throwing that situational factor out the window when assessing this one. LA is expected to rest starters here with nothing to play for anymore. And the idea of the Clippers playing “spoiler” just doesn’t cut it here either for us. The disappointment of missing the playoffs greatly outweighs any motivation that playing spoiler could. Note that New Orleans is 20-14 ATS this year after scoring 115 points or more in its previous outing, while LA is just 8-15 ATS this season after allowing 115 points or more in its previous contest. All signs point to a blowout, consider the PELICANS in this one.

MLB | Mets vs Marlins
Play on: Mets -1½ -105 at 5Dimes

DMack's Free Play for Monday, April 9th, is the NY Mets Run-Line

Noah Syndergaard has been sharp in his first two starts. He has a whopping 17K's vs just two walks but throwing a lot of pitches has not allowed him to go very deep (10 total innings) into games. We'll take the raging 7-1 Mets on the run-line here to mitigate any severe damage knowing that Thor is 3-0 LT in 5 starts vs. the Marlins with an 1.64 ERA. In fact, in his last three starts against Miami, Syndergaard .... 19 innings, 16 hits, 3 earned, 0 BBs, 21Ks. Take the Mets runline.
