The Cincinnati Reds are off to a poor 1-5 start this season. So they’ll be highly motivated for a win today against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have surprised thus far with a 6-1 start to their campaign.
The Reds will be giving the ball to Sal Romano, who has certainly enjoyed facing the Pirates. He has posted a 2.29 ERA and 1.068 WHIP in three career starts against Pittsburgh, all of which came last season. And in his final two starts against them, he gave up just one earned run in 13 2/3 innings.
Chad Kuhl is a back-end starter in this league and is very hittable. In his final start against the Reds last season, Kuhl allowed 4 solo home runs and 11 base runners in 4 2/3 innings. Kuhl gave up 4 earned runs in 5 2/3 innings in his opening start this season against the Pirates for a 6.35 ERA.
Cincinnati is 11-2 (+12.1 units) off a loss by 6 runs or more to a division rival over the last two seasons. Look for them to bounce back today with a win as a nice underdog here against the Pirates. Bet the Reds Saturday.

Darvish, the Cubs' free agent off season signee, did not look good his first appearance for Chicago. He gave up a two-run homer in the opening inning and struggled mightily vs the Marlins and couldn't get out of the fifth, giving up three more runs before being pulled.Darvish has seen the Brewers just once in his career, and he was unceremoniously smacked around and tagged with a loss while allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of lackluster work when with the Dodgers. With that said, I'm betting we have value taking the value RL here vs a Brewers side that is capable of pulling off the upset here. Brewers are 15-6 in their last 21 games vs. a right-handed starter.
DAVIES Brewers starter is 5-4 when starting against CHICAGO CUBS with an ERA of 3.90 and a WHIP of 1.217.Brewers are 8-2 in Davies' last 10 home starts vs. a team with a losing record.

I'll take my chances here with Washington as a big home favorite against the Mets on Saturday. The Nationals are going to be extremely motivated here to get a win, as they have lost 3 straight after starting out 4-0. I look for them to have no problem securing a victory with a big edge on the mound. Washington will send out veteran Gio Gonzalez, who is one of the more underrated pitchers in the game. Gonzalez quietly went 15-9 with a 2.96 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 32 starts last year. He didn't miss a beat in his first start of 2018, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts in 6 innings at Cincinnati. Gonzalez is 14-5 with a 2.93 ERA in 23 career starts against the Mets. New York counters here with Steven Matz, who struggled in his first start, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits (2 HRs) and 3 walks in just 4 innings of a 4-run loss at home to the Cardinals. The last time I checked the Canucks were coming off of their 6th win in their last 8 games! Why? Because Vancouver is playing their tails off the retiring Sedin twins. Daniel and Henrik have been synonymous with NHL hockey in Western Canada for two decades now and these guys just recently announced this would be their last season in NHL. Now I am well aware they just got an emotional OT win at home over Arizona in the Sedins final home game. But there are two comments to that. The Coyotes had been playing very well so that was an impressive win in more ways than one. Secondly, TONIGHT is still the last game of the careers of the Sedin twins. Yes they wanted that home game but the Canucks also want to send them off the ice a winner on the road and it is also fitting that this game is in western Canada as well (Alberta is the neighboring province of British Columbia). After the big win in Vancouver for the Canucks look for them to get another big win in Edmonton. The markets have pushed the Oilers to being a nearly 2 to 1 favorite here and if I can take a dog that has won 6 of 8 against a -200 fave that has lost 5 of 6 AND with the added emotional edges the Canucks should have here, I'll take it every day of the week that ends with the letter Y. Head on you would think the number might go under this evening considering two losing units. Detroit (30-39-12) shows off another depressing home loss to Montreal 4-3. Still, this is a revenge game for the Red Wings after falling 7-6 to the Isles back in February. So, we expect the #28 offense of Detroit to come alive and just might steal a victory. The Isles are the #8 scoring offense so the visitor once again might be trading goals with the Red Wings. New York (34-37-10) has cashed big with power plays of late which adds to the mix but, they are last in goals allowed. At this point, feel more confident with the OVER side. Good Luck.
