A couple of capable hurlers go head-to-head in this Sunday afternoon National League matchup and in my opinion, all signs point to a classic “duel.”
The visitors hand the ball to ace Clayton Kershaw (0-2, 2.25 ERA) who will be eager to finally punch one into the win column today. No reason to panic obviously after two games as Kershaw has all the tools in place for a run at another Cy Young award. Note that he was particularly effective in this spot last year as well by going 5-0 with a 1.83 ERA in all “day” games and 9-2 with a 2.03 ERA on the road.
The home side counters with Ty Blach (1-1, 5.79) who will also be hungry to return to form here after giving up six runs off ten hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in a 6-4 loss to the Mariners on Tuesday.
A date against the Dodgers is just what the doctor ordered for Blach to get untracked though after he went five scoreless against them in his season debut, giving up three walks and striking out three.
In fact, Blach has been consistently at his best whenever he’s faced his division rival, posting a very respectable 3.20 ERA in 25.1 innings against the Dodgers last year.
I believe these two starting pitchers battle deep and as a result, I expect this one to fall under the number once it’s all said and done.
