Pitchers Report - August
By Marc Lawrence

In keeping with our game plan of acknowledging good pitchers and avoiding bad pitchers during their GOOD and BAD months of the season, below is the list of arms to watch throughout the month of August. Note that the W-L records are those of the team in which the listed pitcher started over the previous three seasons.

Herein, I present a list of the BEST and WORST pitcher performance records during the month of August over the past three years. Note: a handful of pitchers on this list are currently on the Disabled List but could return to the rotation sometime this month. Keep a close eye on their status.

And, hey beer man, pour me another one for the road, whadda ya say? Enjoy...

Red Hot MLB Top Play Tonight! - Friday 7/31
Play On: Chicago Cubs w/Harden vs Volstad
Note: The Cubs and Marlins meet in the first of three games in this pivotal N.L. Central Division when Rich Harden matches serves with Chris Volstad at Land Shark Stadium in Miami tonight. Harden enters the game in his best form of the season with a super-sharp 0.90 ERA in his last three starts. He also owns an identical 0.90 ERA in his last three road starts in which he's compiled 3 walks and 22 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Voldstad is just 3-7 in his home team starts this season with a 5.25 ERA. With the Cubs 7-2 on Fridays and the Fish 3-8 on Fridays, look for Harden to come up big here tonight.

Marc lawrence
MLB Super Pick Play! - Friday 7/31
Play On: Toronto w/Richmond vs Braden
Note: The Blue Jays travel to Oakland to meet the A's in the first of a 3-game series Friday night when they send Scott Richmond up against Dallas Braden at the Coliseum. Richmond is 8-4 in his team starts this season and 5-1 away ion his MLB career team starts. O the flip side, Braden is 0-3 with a 7.67 ERA in his last three team start. He's also winless (0-2) in his career team starts in this series. With that, look for Toronto to improve to 11-2 the last 13 games in this series here tonight.

Jim Feist ( 0-2 )
Jim' Feist 2-Star TV Bookie Buster!
Take: 2-Star (955) CHICAGO CUBS.
Reason: The Cubs have gotten healthier this month and it shows, surging ahead to take over first place. Starter Rich Harden may have disappointing overall numbers, but like the Cubs, he has been hot of late, with a 2-0 record and a sizzling 0.95 ERA his last three starts. He is a great strikeout pitcher (104 in 93 innings) and faces a free swinging Florida lineup. Play the Cubs.

Jim Feist
5-Star Inner Circle Road Warrior Rout!
MLB (963) MILWAUKEE BREWERS VS (964) SAN DIEGO PADRES. Take: (963) MILWAUKEE BREWERS.
Reason: Inner Circle: Brewers.
Milwaukee is a fine offensive team, 4th in the NL in runs scored. They take on a San Diego team dead last in the majors in runs and a rather embarrassing .231 team batting average! Brewers righty Braden Looper has been sharp, with the team 5-2 his last 7 starts. San Diego righty Chad Gaudin (4-9) has had a poor season because he walks too many batters (52 in 100 innings). A great spot for the far better visitors. Play the Brewers.

Red Dog Sports ( 0-1 )
3* Baseball Total Under 8.5
Washington at Pittsburgh 7pm
Under 8.5
John Lannan has an ERA of 1.14 in his last 3 starts and has 5 overs and 16 unders this year. Ohlendolf starts for Pittsburgh and his ERA is 3.78 and he has 6 overs and 13 unders this season. The Pirates have 21 unders, 7 overs and 2 pushes in their last 30 games. These two have combined for 86 overs, 109 unders and 7 pushes. Look for another under on Friday night!

Triple Threat Sports ( 0-1 )
5* Major League Baseball Winner!
5* Detroit Tigers over Cleveland Indians (Jackson over Carmona) [7:05pm] (We rate our plays from 1* to 5*)
We will start with Fausto Carmona. He was demoted to Single A ball in early June after a disasterous month that saw him unable to find the plate or get anyone out when he did manage to throw the ball in the hitting zone. He went just 7.1 innings in his thee starts before the demotion, and while his numbers in the bushes have been good, there is every reason to believe that big league pressure will get to him again, he will start to overthrow, and things will unravel. After all, he could not handle the #2 starter role and now - since the Indians traded away Cliff Lee - he has been rushed back up to the bigs and is now being asked to be the ace. This is a trainwreck waiting to happen, and a look at Carmona's history does not portend confidence. If you recall he was tried as the closer a few years back, only to bomb so badly in that role (under pressure) that he was shut down for three months, then slowly eased into being a starter. He found success in that role in time, of course until the 2007 playoffs (under pressure, seeing a pattern here?) when he imploded, and he has not been the same since. Now he is making the first start at home in front of what are very, VERY angry fans, and we just do not think he is up to it.
While it is true a lot of this play is a Carmona fade, there are things to like about the Tigers on their own merit. They are 5-2/22-13 as away chalk of this range and 22-16 this season against division teams, a stark contrast to the 16-23 divisional mark of the Indians this year. Finally, starter Edwin Jackson is in good form coming into this one, posting a 2.57 ERA in his last three starts and coming into this trip on the bump having made seven consecutive qualtiy starts. He has had success against the Indians as well, going 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA. The Tigers get the call today!

MR EAST ( 0-1 )
MLB FRIDAY PLAY OF THE DAY
The New York Mets are finally playing some better baseball, and have now won 5 straight games, going into game 2 of their Thursday doubleheader against the Rockies. The Daimondbacks are just 4-7 in their last 11 on the road, and will go with Doug Davis in this one, who has pitched to a 9.49 ERA in his last 3 starts, which have totalled just 12 innings. The D-Backs have been a poor team when Davis starts on the road, compiling a 5-18 mark in his last 23 road games. The Mets have piled it on at home vs the poor teams, as they have put together a 29-10 mark at home in their last 39 vs a team with a losing record. I'm going with the Mets here on the runline.
#957 ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS @ #958 NY METS 7:10PM EDT
PLAY ON #958 NY METS -110 FOR 3 UNITS

Great Lakes Sports ( 0-1 )
Has A Huge 4* MLB Best Bet Dominator For Friday !
New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox 8:10PM EST
Play on: 4* (977) New York Yankees with Mitre
The New York Yankees have been playing rock solid baseball in the month of July going 18-8 this July including an outstanding 11-3 in their last fourteen games. The New York Yankees is also a very respectable 53-37 when playing on grass this year, and they are 39-24 when playing in night games this year. We look for the New York Yankees to roll over the Chicago White Sox for the road win tonight.

BRYAN LEONARD'S ( 0-1 )
11TH STRAIGHT BASEBALL WINNER!
3* Chicago at Florida
The Cubs have come out of the All-Star break on fire, finally playing up to their preseason potential. Tonight they send a healthy Rich Harden to the mound and the veteran has been absolutely nasty as of late. In his last three starts he has allowed 2 earned runs covering 19 innings. His strikeout to walk rate during that time is 21 to 2. He's had seven road starts this season and six of those have been quality starts, the lone exception he allowed just two earned runs in 5.1 innings at Detroit. Overall he has a sparkling 2.03 ERA on the road this season. Florida counters with young talent Chris Volstad who has been very inconsistent as of late. In his last nine starts he has allowed four or more earned runs five times. He's really struggled with his control the past two outings with a 4 to 8 strikeout to walk ratio. He owns a whopping 5.24 ERA at home this year.
Chicago has taken 6 of the last 8 meetings in this series and they enter play tonight having won 13 of their last 17 games. With Harden on the hill we look for that streak to continue.

PLAY CHICAGO CUBS

Tom Freese ( 0-1 )
Blue Line Club MLB 10* GAME OF THE WEEK GOES FRIDAY
Tom Freese Blue Line Club- Friday, July 31
Washington at Pittsburgh (7:05pm)
Washington is 5-0 their last 5 games as road favorites of -110 to -150. The Nationals are 7-3 in the last 10 starts made by John Lannan. The lefty starter is 4-1 his last 5 starts vs. losing teams. Pittsburgh is 9-23 their last 32 games as underdogs and they are 0-5 their last 5 games overall. The Pirates are 8-21 in Game 1 of a series and they are 2-7 with Ross Ohlendorf on the mound if they are off a loss in their last game. 10* MLB GAME OF THE WEEK PLAY ON #951 WASHINGTON - (Lannan vs. Ohlendorf)

Rocketman Sports ( 0-1 )
TOP RATED 5* MLB UNDERDOG play Friday! 83% run!
MLB
Houston @ St Louis 8:15 PM EST
Play On: 5* Houston +160 (Moehler/Boggs) Listed
Houston comes in with a 51-52 record on the season while St Louis is 56-50 this year. St Louis is scoring only 4.1 runs per game at home this year. Brian Moehler is 5-1 on the road this year and 2-1 his last 3 starts. Moehler is 5-0 with a 3.38 ERA overall vs St Louis since 1997 and his team is 8-0 in those starts. Astros are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 1 of a series. Astros are 4-1 in their last 5 Friday games. Astros are 16-7 in their last 23 games following a loss. Astros are 4-0 in Moehlers last 4 starts as an underdog. Astros are 5-0 in Moehlers last 5 road starts. Astros are 5-0 in Moehlers last 5 starts with 4 days of rest. Astros are 4-0 in Moehlers last 4 road starts with the total set at 9.0-10.5. Astros are 4-0 in Moehlers last 4 starts as a road underdog. Astros are 6-1 in Moehlers last 7 starts following a team loss in their previous game. Astros are 4-1 in Moehlers last 5 road starts vs. a team with a winning record. Cardinals are 1-4 in their last 5 games with the total set at 9.0-10.5. Cardinals are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. National League Central. We'll play Houston for 5 units tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

Tom Stryker's ( 0-1 )
MLB Mound Mismatch of the Month
3* #969 DETROIT with Jackson (-135) over Cleveland at 7:05 PM EST
After winning seven straight in this series to close the 2008 season, Cleveland has dropped seven of nine against Detroit this year. Things will only get worse for the Tribe on Friday when the Tigers come to town.On the mound for Detroit will be right hander Edwin Jackson. All No. 36 has done this season is be a model of consistency. Jackson's last 10 starts prove my point. Over the course of 69.1 innings, Edwin has been touched for only 20 earned runs and 50 hits. That breaks down to a stellar 2.60 ERA! Jackson's efforts at night are noteworthy too. With the moon out, Edwin has been nipped for only 19 earned runs and 64 hits in 81.1 frames. That's good enough for a powerful 2.10 ERA!After getting rocked in 12 starts for Cleveland this year, right hander Fausto Carmona will make his return from Minor League action with hopes of controlling his emotions better this time around. Carmona was demoted after he allowed 50 earned runs and 69 hits in 60.2 innings for the Tribe early this year. That's bad enough for a 2-6 overall record and an embarrassing 7.42 ERA. Fausto's last three starts before he left were atrocious. Facing the Twins, Yankees and Devil Rays, the Santo Domingo product was crushed for 16 earned runs and 16 hits in only 7.1 frames. That adds up to a lofty 19.64 ERA!On a technical note, the Indians have dropped 16 of their last 21 at home against winning teams and 15 of their last 22 priced as an underdog. Meanwhile, the Tigers have quietly cashed 26 of their last 38 priced as a road favorite. Take Detroit with listed pitcher Jackson. Thank you and best of luck, Tom Stryker.

Vernon Croy's ( 0-1 )
**Friday Night MLB Total Bookie Buster** 24-13 MLB Run!
3* Take the Under, Both of these pitchers have pitched great against each others team in the past and I look for a pitchers dual tonight. The O/U is 1-6 in the last 7 games between these two teams and the O/U is 1-10 in Jackson's last 11 starts on the road. The O/U is 1-8 in Jackson's last 9 starts as a favorite and the Jackson has pitched solid in 6 career starts against the Indians with an ERA of just 2.39. The O/U is 0-6 for the Indians in their last 6 home games against a team that has a losing record on the road and the O/U is 6-20 for the Tigers in their last 26 road games against a team with a losing record. Take the Under as my MLB Total Bookie Buster for Friday night and make sure you get on my MLB AL Game of the Month.

Cajun Sports ( 0-1 )
MLB "Double Perfect" Pitching Dominator
Date: Friday July 31 2009
Game: Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres (10:05 PM Eastern)
Selection: 3* Milwaukee Brewers -109
Analysis:
Milwaukee heads west for a three-game weekend series versus the San Diego Padres with the first pitch set for Friday night at 10:05PM Eastern Time. The Brewers are 49-13 SU (+2885) as a favorite after a win in which they allowed 6 or fewer hits, 24-11 SU (+1410) on the road after a win in which they allowed 6 or fewer hits and 14-2 SU (+1140) as a road favorite after scoring 6+ runs in their last game. Milwaukee will send Braden Looper to the bump with his 9-5 record and ERA of 4.79 on the year. We expect Looper to bounce back from a poor performance in his last outing which was actually his first loss in eight starts. He gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings of work last Sunday losing 10 to 2 to the Braves. Looper is 10-3 (+8.6) in road games when playing against a team with a losing record the last 2 seasons, 17-6 (+11.8) versus an NL team with a team batting average of .250 or worse over the last 2 seasons and 6-0 (+8.0) in road games vs. poor base-running teams - averaging 0.5 or less SB's per game over the last 2 seasons. Looper is also 3-0 SU with an ERA of 3.48 in four career starts against the Padres. San Diego will send right-hander Chad Gaudin to the hill with his 4-9 record and ERA of 4.57. Gaudin hasn’t won since June 28th and is 0-3 in five starts with an ERA of 3.64 over that span. The Padres are 24-63 as a dog and it is the first game of the series for a profit of +2860 when playing against them, 15-29 when they lost by one run in their starter's last start for a profit of +1435 when playing against the Padres, 8-23 as a dog versus a team that has won at least their last two games and it is the first game of a series for a profit of +1260 when playing against them and 6-20 as a dog when they are off a win in which they never trailed and it is the first game of a series for a profit of +1155 when playing against the Padres. We also have two MLB Systems that are active for tonight’s contest. Play ON MLB favorites versus a team that has won at least their last two games and it’s the first game of a series, 77-39 SU (+2420). Play ON MLB road favorites when they scored two or fewer runs for their starter in his last two starts, 51-28 SU (+1640). Lay the short price with the visitor as they grab a victory in game one of this series.
