Play: Rockies -110
Over the last 21 innings Aaron Cook has owned the opposition compiling a 2.14 ERA. Meanwhile Ian Snell has gotten shelled his last three starts going 0-3 with an ERA around 5. Snell gets little support from the Pirates bats as Pittsburgh is just 1-6 in Snell's 7 starts. Everything posts to a Rockies win as the road chalk.
Play on the Colorado Rockies (-110) as a 100 Dime selection.

The Dodgers were 'riding high' when it was announced (a week ago Thursday) that Manny Ramirez would be suspended for 50 games. LA lost four of its first five games without its top hitter but the team has rebounded. Ramirez met with his teammates prior to last night's game, for the first time since his ban was handed down. The meeting was short (reportedly about 10 minutes) and little details were provided. However, we do know that the Dodgers went out and beat the Marlins last night 6-4, giving them a three-game winning streak. While the Dodgers seem to being handling their version of adversity fairly well, the same can't be said about the Marlins. Florida has been unable to shake its prolonged slump, as last night's loss was the team's FIFTH straight, giving the Marlins a 6-18 record since their franchise-best 11-1 start (17-19 overall mark). The Marlins were third in MLB with 208 HRs last season but have only 35 through 36 games this year and worse yet, are batting just .239 as a team (2nd-worst mark in all of MLB in 2009). I just 'love' Dan Uggla's quote after the game. "It's just a run of bad luck," said Uggla, whose average dropped to .182 with an 0-for-4 performance Friday. Yeah right. However, I do like Florida's chances of 'pushing' some runs across the plate in Saturday's game. Getting the start tonight for LA is Eric Milton. Remember him? Milton began his career back in 1998 with the Twins and from 2000-02 was decent, going 41-26, although his ERA was in the mid-4.00s. He was 14-6 with the Phillies in 2004 (despite a 4.75 ERA) and the following year (with the Reds) struggled with an 8-15 mark (6.47 ERA). It's been all downhill for him since. Milton will be making his first major league start since May 8, 2007. He was last seen in the majors going 0-4 with a 5.17 ERA for Cincinnati in that season, before elbow surgery ended his year. Milton has gone 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA in seven starts with Triple-A Albuquerque this season and the Dodgers just purchased the contract of the veteran left-hander, optioning James McDonald to their Pacific Coast League club.Milton is 1-3 with a 5.94 ERA in six career starts vs Florida but he hasn't faced them since April 2006. If the Marlins can't get to him, they are in BIG trouble. Florida will counter with a lefty as well, Andrew Miller. Miller began with the Tigers, getting a little action in 2006 and 2007. Detroit liked him but he was part of the Dontrelle Willis deal, one which hasn't worked out well for either team. Miller was 6-10 with a 5.87 ERA last year in 29 appearances, of which 20 were starts (team was 7-13). He's made four appearances this year (two starts), going 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA. He lasted pitched for Florida back on April 20, before going on the DL with a strained right oblique the next day. He's made a couple of solid rehab starts in the minors but he'll face an LA team which has 'POUNDED' lefties in 2009, going 9-2 while averaging 5.7 RPG. Actually, LA is hitting all kinds of pitching in 2009, as they are mere decimal points behind the Cards for MLB's best team batting average (LA's hitting .291) and the team's 207 runs scored is second-best in the majors. Is it reasonable to expect Miller to do well here? In his only two previous starts vs the Dodgers, he's posted a 25.07 ERA, failing to last more than three innings in either one.

Adrian Gonzalez extended his home run streak to five games with a solo shot last night, as the Padres beat the Reds 5-3. Gonzalez (.311, 15 HRs 29 RBI) has been one of the very few 'bright spots' in San Diego this year, as last night's win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Padres. San Diego opened the 2009 season winning NINE of its first 12 games but last night's win was just its FIFTH in its last 24 (14-22 overall). The Reds enter this game a surprising 20-15 overall, including a 13-6 mark on the road (most road wins of any team in MLB), where they are outscoring opponents on average, 4.79 RPG-to-3.26. Edinson Volquez will get the start for the Reds tonight. He was part of the Josh Hamilton deal with Texas, where he went 3-11 with a 7.20 ERA over three seasons. However, the Reds saw something and they were right. He was terrific last year, going 17-6 with a 3.21 in 32 starts (team was 21-11, plus-$771), allowing just 167 hits in 196 innings. He's began poorly this year in his first two starts, allowing 13 hits and 10 ERs over 9.1 innings (9.64 ERA). However, he allowed just nine hits and four ERs in 27 innings over his next four outings (1.33 ERA). Volquez (4-2 with a 4.40 ERA in seven starts this year) had his scoreless-innings streak snapped at 16 after giving up seven runs and six hits while striking out eight in an 8-7, 10-inning loss to St Louis this past Sunday. However, he should get "back in form" tonight vs the Padres, who are batting just .239 (27th) and scoring a meager 3.78 RPG. San Diego will counter with Josh Geer. He was 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts last season but he's not pitched well this season. He's made five appearances (four being starts), allowing 32 hits and 16 ERs in 28 innings in 2009 (0-1 with a 5.14 ERA / team is 1-3). He makes his fourth straight start for the Padres after allowing seven runs (five earned) while walking three in three innings of a 12-5 loss at Houston last Sunday. That was surely not a "confidence-booster" and Geer seems no match for Volquez in this one, who was an NL All-Star last season.
