Dave Malinsky 4* play
Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks
PICK: over
We have already been able to cash a couple of 6* tickets here in Chase Field this week as the market comes up short of properly evaluating what it means to have the dome opened (not only do we get a '9' here, but you should be able to lay -105), and in a rare home game under the open daytime skies we are ready to play again, although the pitching matchup does force us to back the * rating down to a regular play.
Franklin Morales was razor sharp against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, not allowing a run and giving up just two hits over six innings. But that was on a day in which the first pitch temperature was 49 degrees at Coors Field. Now not only do the Arizona hitters get another crack at him, which means some familiarity with his stuff, but they also get to do it under the best hitting conditions for any game in the Major’s so far this season (when we combine temperature and ball park). Let’s look for them to get much better swings this time, and for some of that right-handed power to catch up to him.
We backed Danny Haren as a 4* against the Dodgers earlier in the week, and we must respect his chances to perform well on the first look for N.L. hitters - the expected Colorado starters today have only 17 career at-bats against him. But Haren does get a lot of fly ball outs, and has already allowed three home runs in 12 innings this season. He can be good here, but not dominating enough to get us out of this one at the price being offered.
We do not need anything near a slugfest to cash this ticket - if each team gets to four runs we can not lose. That is not asking much at all on a hot day (first pitch should be around 83 degrees) in which it will feel like mid-July to the hitters.
do you guys ever get akmens plays? especially baseball. just wandering. thanks for the help.

Game: Atlanta at Washington
Pick: Atlanta -1.5 runs +100 (runline)
When John Smoltz takes the mound, the Braves expect to win. Over the last two years when Smoltz has been on the hill and the Braves are on the road and win, they are 14-2 against the -1.5 runline. The Nats were 11-30 in home losses last year against the 1.5 runline and that's where the value lies in the game today. The Nats surprised with a 3-0 start, but are now on an eight-game losing streak. They have scored just three runs in their last two games. Smoltz is 54-16 against teams that average under one homerun per game and 31-11 against the runline vs. NL teams scoring under 4.4 runs per game. We'll ride the Braves to roll to a convincing win on the road behind Smoltz.

New Orleans Voodoo -Dallas Desperados OVER 103.0 (-110) / 6 units
We cashed with Dallas Over the total last week, feeling that the betting marketplace had not correctly valued the return of starting quarterback Clint Dolezel to the Desperados lineup. Dallas enjoyed their second highest scoring game of the year, despite the fact that Dolezel was not particularly sharp following his month long absence. Just as importantly, the Desperados defense seemed to let up a bit now that their star QB was back on the field, and the ‘D’ was no longer required to win games without full offensive support. After another week of practice, we can expect this Dallas offense to resemble the well oiled machine that we expected them to be at the start of the season.
Let’s not forget that Dallas averaged 63 points per game last year, and have the offensive weapons to approach those numbers again in 2008 now that their starting quarterback is healthy once again. Nor should we forget that the VooDoo defense has noticeably declined away from home, allowing 55 points per game against a pair of subpar offensive squads. Here, facing a top tier offense, I wouldn’t count on the VooDoo getting many stops.
But there’s little reason to think that New Orleans won’t be able to trade scores with Dallas. The VooDoo have been amazingly productive at putting up points when their offense isn’t on the field, getting a defensive or special teams score on a weekly basis since their five game winning streak began. And QB Danny Wimprine seems to get better every week – he’s led the VooDoo to eight touchdowns on nine meaningful offensive drives in each of their last two games, against a pair of solid defenses (San Jose and Colorado). Let’s not forget that VooDoo head coach Mike Neu tends to be extremely aggressive when trailing – even if either or both offenses struggle early, we could see a very high scoring fourth quarter with an onside kick following each VooDoo touchdown. Put it all together and we’ll be riding Dallas Over the total once again on Saturday. Take the Over.
