DOC'S AFL

4 Unit Play. Take Georgia -1 ½ over Orlando
Orlando has been living well of late and actually has a much better record then would reflect their play. That being said, we used them the last two weeks and picked up +11 units in the process, but their luck will run out tonight against a team hungry for a victory. The Force are starting to score points and rank second in total yards. This will be a low scoring game that is keep in the fifties, but it will come down to one team needing it more and that will be Georgia.

4 Unit Play. Take Los Angeles -3 over Cleveland
Two evenly matched teams are set to do battle on Saturday night at the Stapler, but the difference will come down to home field and that belongs to the Avengers. LA is coming off an impressive victory over Utah last week and will follow-up with another victory over a lesser AFL team on Saturday.

Ferringo MLB

3.5-Unit Play. Take Cincinnati (-135) over Milwaukee
The Reds have been getting kicked around, but I look for them to kick back today. Jeff Suppan has a 5.58 ERA against Cincinnati in his career and a 7.78 ERA in Cincy. Adam Dunn (.500 BA) and Ken Griffey Jr. (.458) have both torn up Suppan in their careers. Johnny Cueto is overrated. For sure. But he has strikeout stuff and the Brewers are in the top 10 in K’s. The Brew Crew is hitting just .222 against right-handers on the season and I think Cueto is going to have a big day. The Reds are 19-8 as a home favorite and 17-4 as a home chalk between -110 and -150. These teams have played virtually .500 against one another over the last two-plus years so I see the Reds bouncing back with a big one. In fact, in the last six series between these teams the club that won Game 1 lost Game 2.

2.5-Unit Play. Take Chicago White Sox (-110) over Tampa Bay
2-Unit Play. Take ‘Under’ 9.5 Chicago White Sox at Tampa Bay
OK. Yesterday I didn’t go on the Sox because the number on Vasquez confused me. This number does a bit as well. But screw that. The Sox are a much better team and this pitching matchup isn’t even close. Are we walking into a trap? Maybe. But on short odds like this its worth risk because we have the ace taking the ace. Mark Buehrle is 6-1 in his career against the Devil Rays, including 5-1 in Tampa. Last year he faced them twice and the Sox won both, as he went 14 combined innings and gave up six runs. Not great, but with Andy Sonnastine on the bump for the Rays it should hold up if Buehrle can give us seven innings and give up just one or two runs. Tampa Bay is just 20-42 against A.L. Central teams and hasn’t been doing much at home yet this year.

The ump is 4-0 on the ‘under’ this year. In three of his games he had a soft-tossing lefty on the hill, much like Buehrle. Sonnastine has some sharp stuff when he’s on, and I can see this one shaking out at 3-1.

2.5-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 8.0 San Francisco at St. Louis
1-Unit Play. Take #956 St. Louis (-115) over San Francisco (1 p.m., Saturday, April 19)
We’ve seen this quite a bit during the first few weeks of the season: two teams facing the same two starters about one week apart and lighting them up the second time. Tim Lincecum and Joel Piniero already matched up against their opponents last week. The result was a 7-4 Giants win that sailed the total of 7.5. Throw in a big time ‘over’ ump (Gerry Davis) behind the dish and I think we are onto something. Davis is 3-1 vs. the total this year and here are two pitching matchups that went ‘over’: Buehrle-Sabathia and Francis-Webb. Not exactly amateurs. He’s seen an average of 26 baserunners in his four games and an average of 12.5 runs. The ‘over’ is 9-5 in the last 14 meetings and is 5-1 in San Fran’s last six overall. Piniero will be better and Lincecum is nice, but I still think this one sneaks over the bar late.

If you can only get it at 8.5 I would say to play it at either 1.5 or 2.0. Use your discretion.

1.5-Unit Play. Take Los Angeles Dodgers (-110) over Atlanta
The Dodgers are hammering left-handed pitching. They are No. 3 in the MLB against lefties at .325 batting, and now they get a crack at Chuck James, fresh up from the farm. I actually don’t think James is that bad. But this is a rough spot for him. No one expects much from him, he’s under pressure to perform for his job, the fans are just waiting for an excuse to turn on him, and he’s facing a lineup that eats up southpaws. I think the Dodgers are going to get one in this series. I think this is the one.

1.5-Unit Play. Take Houston (-115) over Colorado
Wandy Rodriquez at home. Any questions? Houston is 13-3 in his last 16 home starts. His counterpart, Aaron Cook, is 7-20 in his last 27 road starts. Colorado won yesterday. Good for them. They were playing on adrenaline. But I think the Astros get back at it today. Houston is 23-7 in their last 30 at home against the Rockies and 4-1 against ‘Rodo with Wandy.
