LARRY NESS

Seattle Mariners @ Los Angeles Angels
PICK: Los Angeles Angels

REASON FOR PICK: The Angels were able to win 13 of their 19 meetings with the Mariners in '07, the difference in LA finishing six games ahead of Seattle at the end of the regular season. The Mariners took two three from the Angels last weekend in Seattle but the Angels used a three-run first inning last night to spark them to a 5-4 win, evening this year's series at two-all. Former Angel Jarrod Washburn gets the call tonight for Seattle and in his first two full seasons with the Mariners, has gone a disappointing 18-29 with a 4.49 ERA (Seattle is 30-33 in his starts). Washburn is 4-2 with a 4.26 ERA in seven career starts against his former team (Seattle is 5-2) but faces an Angel team which went 54-27 at home last year. Getting the start for LA is Ervin Santana, who has become somewhat famous for his home/away dichotomy. Over the last three seasons, he's been just horrific on the road with a 7.28 ERA and quite naturally, the Angels have gone 13-26 in those starts. However, at home in Angel Stadium, he's got a 3.43 ERA with the Angels going 31-14. So far in 2008 he's had two solid road starts (3.46) picking up wins in each outing. His lone home start wasn't bad (allowed six hits and two ERs in six innings) but it did result in a 4-3 loss to Cleveland. LA was so dominant against right-handers last year, especially in home night games, that while I'll play Santana and the Angels here, I'll make it a small play against the lefty, Washburn.

Orlando Predators @ Georgia Force
PICK: Georgia Force

REASON FOR PICK: This is an actual star rated pick being given away free on Saturday. It is best to play this one early as the line is on the move this morning. Currently Georgia is available as low as a -1. Play it early.

1* (regular play) Georgia Force (-) vs Orlando @ 7 ET – This is a big revenge match-up for the Force as they lost to the Predators by just five points on the road in Orlando back in Week 4. Now the Force are getting their shot against the Predators back home in Georgia and we like the progress we’ve seen from the Force in recent weeks. They are starting to show more explosiveness on both sides of the ball and, with the home crowd behind them this week, the Force should get their revenge against the Predators. The Predators have won five straight games but the scheduling has been quite favorable during this winning streak. The only truly impressive victory was the Preds overtime victory over the tough Chicago Rush in Week 6 but that game was at home and, before last week’s surprising result, the Predators were just 1-2 on the road and the only victory came by a field goal over a Columbus team that is just 2-5 on the season now.

As you can see we’re showing that there a few dents in the armor when it comes to how good this 5-2 Orlando team really is. The Predators are known for a strong secondary but some of the players they rely on back there have lost a step and the explosive Force offense can absolutely take advantage of this. Georgia is coming off of their bye week so they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for this game. Heading into the bye week, the Force had won three of their last four games and they had averaged 66 points per game in the three wins.

Keep in mind that Georgia brought in a lot new players prior to this season and it took awhile for these guys to gel. However, they have now gelled and the results are starting to show up on the scoreboard as well. The Predators secondary, as noted above, is not what it used to be as they have produced just three interceptions in seven games this season. They will struggle against the Force and their fast developing quick strike offense. With the bye week adding even more value to the home team here, the Force should win this one rather easily. Play Georgia minus the points as a regular selection.

KANSAS CITY (Greinke) -105 over OAKLAND (G. Smith)

After missing all or most of the past couple of seasons, Zack Greinke has returned to MLB with a vengeance. So far he's looked unhittable in 2008 (+$400, 0.75 ERA in three starts). The Athletics have played well so far, but they've been a shaky proposition vs. righthanders at McAfee Coliseum (-$220 so far, -$1530 in 2007). The Royals made money on the road vs. lefties last year (+$430) and are of to a 3-1 start vs. southpaws this year(+$285).Excellent value on the road team in this one.

**PREFERRED
Dallas over New Orleans* by 5

In Chris Paul's last post-season, he got rattled against NC State, threw a punch and got suspended during the ACC Tournament. Then, in the NCAA Tournament, his team didn't cover as the favorite.

Then and now don't necessarily correspond, but the point is that New Orleans' best player is expected to do too much, against an opponent that has showed up,gone nose-to-nose, and played good post-season defense against long-term "best-of-the-West" opponents for the last four seasons.

New Orleans' Peja Stojakovich has been known to be a playoff ghost, and Dallas' Erick Dampier is a body that matches up well against New Orleans' Tyson Chandler, and can stand in the way of Chandler's garbage buckets. At 6-0, 175 and 6-1, 175, Paul and Jannero Pargo are a far cry from the size of Baron Davis and Steven Jackson in that Warriors' backcourt that killed them last season. Eddie Jones and Jerry Stackhouse still play on this Dallas team, and they've been around the block more than a few times.

There is a myth about New Orleans being a ''running'' team that isn't really true -- as far as pace goes, they are in the second half of the league at 90.3 possessions per game, with Dallas #28 at 89.2. DALLAS, 94-89.

Nick Parsons Saturday NHL Pick

Play on OVER 5 goals in Colorado vs Minnesota @

Avalanche goalie Jose Theodore was unbelievable in Game 5s win at Minnesota. However, dont look for a repeat of that performance here. The fact is that the Wild outplayed the Avs by a wide margin and yet still ended up on the wrong end of a 3-2 final. Minnesota knows that they have dominated play for much of this series and yet still fallen short. That has strengthened their resolve going into Game 6 at Colorado on Saturday night. Although the Wild should continue to have success in pressuring the Avs netminder and getting a few more goals past Theodore, its the Avs offense that is likely to also respond with a better performance tonight. Colorado is averaging 3 goals per game in this series and they know that a little more offense pressure on their part would help alleviate some of the pressure on the other end. The Wild sound very confident coming into this game and they certainly will not hold back on taking chances since this is an elimination game for them. Every single game in this series has finished with at least five goals and that is why there is value in going over 5 goals in this match-up. The Wild will continue to push the tempo but, on home ice, the Avalanche will be able to match the tempo of Minnesota as Colorado likes to pick up the pace when on their home ice. The Avs were fourth in the Western Conference in terms of shots on goal on home ice. Minnesotas power play efficiency on the road ranked fifth in the Western Conference. Tough to call the side in this one but, with the way each of these teams is likely to respond to Game 5s result, Game 6 is likely to feature plenty of scoring. The OVER is the way to go in this one!
