Ben Burns TV TOTAL OF THE MONTH *6-1 L7 (Saturday afternoon)
I'm playing on Philadelphia and Arizona OVER the number. I've successfully played on the Phillies in each of their last three games. Each time, I made a comment about how Ryan Howard was "heating up" and that was "bad news" for the rest of the league and that I felt it would have a positive and contagious effect on the rest of the team. Howard has certainly done his best to make me look good, as he hit home runs in all three of those games, including two on Thursday. The Phillies slugger leads the NL in both home runs and RBI's and is batting an impressive .357 during his current 14-game hitting streak. This afternoon, Howard and co. will square off against aging southpaw Randy Johnson. I played on the "Big Unit" in his last game and he came through with a strong effort. However, that was against an anemic San Diego lineup which entered that game hitting .244 against left-handed pitchers, averaging only 3.8 runs per game. This afternoon is a whole different kettle of fish, as Johnson will face a Phillies lineup which feasts on left-handed pitching. Indeed, the Phillies have averaged a healthy 5.7 runs per game against southpaws through the first half. While Johnson did prove that he was still capable, let's remember that three of his four previous starts finished above the total and that he was 0-6 with a 6.32 ERA in his previous eight starts. While I expect Johnson to give up some runs this afternoon, I also expect him to receive some decent run support. That's because the Diamondbacks will be facing a mediocre pitcher, who is currently struggling. Indeed, after giving up six runs in four innings last time out, Eaton is now 1-4 with an ugly 6.84 ERA over his last five outings. Eaton's last two starts have both produced double-digits, most recently a 10-9 Phillies win over the Mets. Arizona has the advantage of having faced Eaton already this season. They hit him hard in that game too, as Eaton allowed six runs in four innings. Johnson was Eaton's opponent in that game and the teams had already combined for double-digits in runs by the sixth inning. With both starters entering with ERA's above five, I'm expecting another high-scoring affair this afternoon. *TV Total of Month

Grand Rampage vs. San Jose Sabercats
Pick: Grand Rapids
Ai Simulator 10* graded play on Grand Rapids – AiS shows an 87% probability that GR will lose this game by 4 or fewer points and has a 65% probability of winning the game. Supporting this graded play is a system that has gone 58-27 ATS since 1998. Play against favorites after having won 6 or 7 out of their last 8 games, good team, winning 60-75% or more of their games on the season. Simply stated GR is peaking at the right time and has ripped off 3 straight wins and ATS wins. Remember always, that the dominate reason we are making this play is due to the grading by the AiS. The systems and angles – in this case the absence of angles_ serve only to reinforce the grading of the play. The fact that there are no meaningful angles in the vast database does not in anyway diminish the validity of this opportunity. Take Grand Rapids. As a bonus play I also like the first half UNDER the posted total. This play is reinforced by an 83% winning system dating back to 2002. Play under with any team against the first half total and after going over the total by 21 or more points total in their last three games and is now facing an opponent after going over the total by 42 or more points total in their last five games.

Today's Pick: #20 TONY STEWART (over Denny Hamlin)
For starters, I think Tony Stewart has the best shot of winning this race. Stewart has 2 wins, 5 Top 5 finishes and 5 Top 10 finishes in his 7 starts here in Chicago. Stewart has an average finish of 11.0 here in Chicago. Stewart is the defending race champion from last season and I feel like he'll get er done again here this weekend. We'll play Tony Stewart to finish ahead of Denny Hamlin for 3 units tonight!

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres
Play: Over 8
With Greg Maddux giving up 19 hits in 17 innings and both starting pitchers with over an 8 ERA in their last 3 starts, I like the Over in this game tonight. After a 4-0 SD win Friday, who I hammered as my top premium play last night for a weekday sweep of bases, I like the Braves to bounce back and score some runs against their old ace hurler Maddux, who recently has been lit up. Morton for the Pads has given up 23 hits in his last 14 innings.
