Indianapolis Colts at Atlanta Falcons
Prediction: Atlanta Falcons

Reason: The Falcons lost their preseason opener, 17-20, at Jacksonville last Saturday. Theyll host a Colts team thats already 0-2 SU this exhibition season and a horrible 4-11 ATS during their last 15 preseason battles. While Atlanta lost by a field goal, their trio of quarterback, Chris Redman, Joey Harrington and Matt Ryan were able to put up 17 points on a tough Jaguar defense and should look even sharper with a game under their belts. We find Atlanta at 12-4 ATS at home off a preseason loss and a very profitable 6-2 ATS in their second exhibition game.

ATL -3.0 vs IND

No need for a 100 word write up to impress anyone. Bottom line it's pre-season and my pre-season plays are based on playing time, the coach's intentions and of course the all important QB rotations.

Nick "BookieKiller" Parsons

Indianapolis Colts @ Atlanta

As we noted in last weeks write-up, the Colts suffered a loss in the Hall of Fame Game on Sunday, August 3rd. However, we expected that to give them an edge heading into the true Week 1 of the Preseason. Sure enough, although they lost in overtime to the Panthers, the Colts did get the cover in their second Week 1 game at Carolina on Saturday. With the Colts having an extra week this preseason, by virtue of playing in the Hall of Fame Game, they did not play their personnel versus the Redskins the way we felt they would last week against the Panthers and this week against the Falcons. Note that the Indianapolis loss was truly a bad beat for their backers in the Hall of Fame Game as they outgained Washington by 55 yards and they also had 24 first downs compared to just 20 for the Redskins. So, how did they lose by two touchdowns despite these solid numbers? It had a lot do with an interception run back for a touchdown late in the game. That was the key turnover in the game. However, it was also simply a case of laying down a bit too early. Up 16-9 in the third quarter and seemingly in control of at least the spread victory (Indianapolis was +4.5 in most shops), the Colts somehow saw things quickly become unraveled. Even though this was just a Preseason game it was still the type of effort that will have Coach Dungys troops a little hungrier this week. Thats because the Colts still ended up losing on Sunday at Carolina even though they got the cash. This means that Indianapolis is now 0-2 straight-up this preseason and they will look to get into the win column at Atlanta this week. Keep in mind that, in the Hall of Fame Game, Indianapolis saw Jim Sorgi complete 7 of 10 passes but he was an early exit from the game since the Colts were playing the first of five preseason games this year. Then, on Saturday against the Panthers, Sorgi completed 6 of 9 passes. Look for him to get in a little more work this week at Atlanta but note that Jared Lorenzen is coming off of a very big game for the Colts and that makes their QB rotation even more dangerous this week! The Colts have now let their games get away from them in EACH of the first two weeks so look for Indianapolis to close the deal with a win at Atlanta this week.

The Chargers got a solid win to start their 2008 preseason 31-17. This team should be solid, especially on offense, this season. The Chargers are 9-1 SU and 10-0 ATS in their last 10 games combined (five regular season, three playoff and one preseason) dating back to last season . Look for the Chargers to make it 2-0 in preseason 2008.

Chicago White Sox at Oakland Athletics

The WSox have won five of six and throw their best today against punchless A's. John Danks has had a very under-the-radar season at 9-5 and 3.18 ERA, 5-1 and 2.53 ERA on the road. Danks is 3-0 LT vs. Oakland with a microscopic 1.35 ERA and is 2-0 this year versus the A's winning 4-1 and 4-3 allowing just two earned in 14 innings of work. The A's have mailed it in at 2-11 L13 and have scored one run or less an unbelievable 33 times.

VEGAS EXPERTS

San Diego Chargers at St. Louis Rams

Norv Turner has promised to limit QB Phillip Rivers and the rest of the starters for tonight's preseason tilt in St. Louis, after having the play the bulk of the 1st half last week against Dallas. That means a lot of young players and evaluation this week. The Rams, meanwhile, look to be taking this game quite seriously after being pounded by Tennessee. Look for them to justify the line move in their favor.

Let's the Favre era in New York start off with a preseason loss as I see the Redskins staying perfect in the preseason. Yes sure all the hype tonight well be about Favre making his New York debut, but with Favre only expected to take a few snaps tonight will be all about the Redskins. The same Washington team that rolls in 2-0 SU in the preseason after looking good in both games thanks to a strong quarterback rotation that will see Campbell and Collins taking the first half with Colt Brennan mopping up the fourth quarter as the rookie has looked solid this preseason. Flat out given the fact that the Jets quarterback situation falls off the map once Favre leaves the game and with New York looking awful on defense last week I fully see the Redskins having success tonight as Washington keeps things close and should even win outright.

Take the Redskins plus the points!

Falcons are your play in this game tonight, as it's common knowledge how terrible the Colts are during the preseason, simply because Tony Dungy can't be bothered with winning in the preseason.

If I told you that was the main - and only - reason for the release you'd think I was nuts or would leave longing for more. But truth is, this is a free play, and I have something much bigger higher up on this page that I am ready to bank.

This play on the Falcons is a 1-Dime comp winner. My top play is 30 times as strong. If you're here for free - play Atlanta ... again, Dungy doesn't care about winning, and the Dirty Birds are rebuilding and need the win - there ya go!!!

Houston pulled out a 19-16 win over Denver last week, pushing as a three-point home favorite. That makes the Texans 6-3 in the preseason since coach Gary Kubiak took over, including 5-2-2 ATS this after going 2-10 SU and ATS in exhibition play from 2003-05. Smartly, Kubiak has placed a big emphasis on preseason road games when you've got a young team, learning how to win on the road is huge as Houston is 3-1 SU in the highway in August the last two years. The Texans have also cashed in four of their last five preseason games as an underdog.

On the flip side, New Orleans, which looked really good at Arizona last week, has lost eight of its last 10 exhibition home games (2-8 ATS), and the Saints are 1-7 ATS as a preseason chalk since 2003.
Finally, while Houston's starters, including QB Matt Schaub, are only slated to go until about the midpoint of the second quarter, Kubiak said that veteran backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels who could start for a lot of teams in the league is going to play all the way until the fourth quarter.

Throw in the fact that the Saints potent offense will be without two of its biggest weapons (Jeremy Shockey and Reggie Bush are out), and I'll grab the points with the Texans even though I doubt we'll need them.

3♦ HOUSTON TEXANS
