San Francisco/Cincinnati Under 8 -1.14 (3 Unit Play)

Matt Cain has been on a roll lately and his road ERA of 3.43 can't be overlooked as well. He has three career starts against the Reds and two out of the three starts went Under the total. His counterpart today is Bronson Arroyo who has been pitching very well lately as well and in six career starts against the Giants all six games have went Under the total. Today's HP umpire Mike Estabrook is 13-6 for the Under so far this year and in an early start this game should stay Under the total.

Chicago +2.5 (POD) (WNBA Game of the Year)

I just mentioned that the biggest public play on the board was Connecticut, I take it back, the biggest public play on the board is indeed Detroit - on the road as a 72% favorite over Chicago. This nearly outlines the fact that Chicago is likely to win this game outright - Remember, it is Detroit that beat Chicago 66-63 earlier this year and Chicago had already defeated this team 76-59 at home. This is the same Chicago team that beat Washington and New York on the road outright and is a solid 8-1-1 ATS of late as well, there is no reason why Chicago should not do exceptionally well today as well.

Bottom line is, this is the same Detroit team that has been terrible of late as both of these teams are headed in opposite directions. Yes, this team defeated New York at home but remember, they were down portions of that game, this team lost 4 in a row including by 18 on the road at Houston and Powell, Pierson and Cheryl Ford are all out for this team in this game. This team has the bite to do well at home, but on the road, with Chicago playing well, having revenge and coming off big outright road wins themselves as they eye the playoffs, the public gets buried here while we cash.

Coloardo/Colorado State OVER

Former Colorado State QB and assistant Steve Fairchild takes over for Lubick. Fairchild was an OC with the Rams ('03-'05) and with the Bills (06-'07) the last five years and plans on calling the plays. As for Colorado, the Buffs are in their third season under Dan Hawkins and most feel they are "on the rise." Colorado averaged just 16.3 PPG in Hawkins' first year but that rose to 27.3 PPG last year, as his son Cody, took over at QB. Expect Cody Hawkins (3,015 yards passing with 22 TDs and 17 INTs) to improved in his sophomore season. However, the Buffs still have many questions on the defensive side of the ball, after allowing 29.5 PPG and almost 400 YPG in 2007. Colorado got very poor play from its front-seven last year, ranking dead-last in the Big 12 and 100th in the nation in tackles for loss (TFL) with just over five TFLs per outing. Getting to the QB was also a major issue, as CU averaged just 1.6 sacks per game, which ranked 95th in the nation. This rivalry has been one of the more tightly contested ones in recent years, with SEVEN of the last 8 meetings decided by 7 points or less. The last 10 games have averaged 52.2 PPG and while that's about a TD lower than the opening number on this game, I'm looking for a shootout in Invesco Field to match the 'fireworks' created at this same venue on Thursday night by Barack Obama. Take Col/CSU Over.

2 UNIT PLAY

Kentucky/ Louisville Under 55.5

Gonna take a shot with the Under here. Something I wouldn't have tried the last 2 years as the teams combined for 80.5 ppg over the 2 games. This year Kentucky must replace 6 starters on offense, including their QB, top Rusher and 2 top receivers. That's a lot of skill players gone. Louisville also has lost a ton of offensive talent as they must QB, Brian Brohn (4024 yp and 30 TD's) and their top 3 of their 4 top receivers. The Cardinls do return their top to rushers and that is good news in this instance as the running game will be more prominent for them, which will make that clock run and run some more. The biggest part of this pick maybe that both defenses seem to be ahead of the offenses here. Rich brooks is excited about his defense this year and states that it could be his best unit yet, as 8 returning starters return from a group that improved last year by 56 ypg from 2006. The Cardinal defense returns 9 starters from a unit that struggled last year, but they should be much stronger this time around, especially with the hiring of new DC Ron English. Both offenses will struggle in the early part of the year, mening the D's will have to carry both teams and that has me think Under the big number in this one.
