1* on San Diego Padres +145

San Diego is a great underdog selection against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Yes, the Padres are down this year but Wilfredo Ledezma is just the young starter that can get them back on track tonight. He comes out of the bullpen to take Justin Germano’s place after Germano struggled mightily to start the year. Ledezma owns a 1.96 ERA through 18 innings in relief and also has 18 strikeouts to his credit. We feel Ledezma will take this opportunity by storm to pitch a gem against the Braves tonight. Jo-Jo Reyes got lit up for 5 earned runs through 3 innings in his last start against he Padres. Take San Diego on the Money Line.

1 Unit on Red Sox -119

Verlander is yet to find his groove in 2008. The Tigers' ace is just 1-5 with an ERA over 6.00. We'll go against him with Beckett and the Red Sox tonight at a bargain price to land ourselves an easy winner. The Red Sox are 14-4 in Beckett's last 18 road starts and 26-8 in Beckett's last 34 starts as a favorite. The Red Sox are 22-6 in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Red Sox are 31-15 in the last 46 meetings in this matchup.Take Bean Town tonight.

1 Unit on Detroit Tigers +110

Detroit took a big early lead to the Red Sox, only to let it slip away and go down a run in the 9th inning. But the Tigers gave Jonathan Papelbon his first blown save with a walk-off single by Placido Polanco. This was just the kind of win that can get things turned around in Detroit. Justin Verlander has struggled this season, but the Tigers’ Ace will be hungry to get out there and start a winning streak at home tonight. Boston is 3-12 in road games after a game where their bullpen blew a save over the last 3 seasons. Detroit is 18-6 vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 5.5 or less hits/start over the last 2 seasons. Josh Beckett got rocked for 5 earned runs in his last start against the Tigers, while Verlander gave up just 2 earned runs in over 7 innings with his last start against Boston. Cash in with Detroit as the underdog.

Wunderdog

Minnesota at Chicago
Pick: Minnesota +132

Kevin Slowey was impressive last year late, where the Twins won seven of his 11 starts. He has missed the start of the season with a biceps problem, but he certainly has the capacity to pitch the Twins into the win column. The Twins have also owned John Danks. They have some huge numbers against him, which is why he has a career 8.35 ERA against the Twins, and failed to get out of the third inning against them already this season. Danks is also a career 5+ ERA pitcher, and this one sets up well for the Twins.

Cleveland Indians vs. New York Yankees
Play: New York Yankees -1.5

The New York Yankees ran into the majors hottest pitcher last night in Cliff Lee and now look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.

Mike Mussina gets the call for the Yanks and we'll back him on the runline as he looks to win his fourth straight decision. I'll get back to Mussina later on, but first let's take a look at the how the Yanks got in this position of being on the verge of a home sweep.

Cleveland has done it with pitching. Starters Cliff Lee and Fausto Carmona have combined to allow just 12 hits in two games holding the Yanks offense to just three earned runs. Lee shut the Yanks out last night and the Yanks have not scored in 14 straight innings.

Paul Byrd gets the call for the Indians this afternoon and even though he has earned a victory against the Yanks already this season, I'm not sure he can duplicate that feat again today. He allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings of a 6-4 Indian win in Cleveland last month. He is 0-4 in four regular season starts at Yankee stadium.

Mussina has pitched well lately during his three game winning streak and that includes a road win over these same Indians a little over a week ago. He has won his last three starts against the Indians and in his win last week held the Tribe to seven hits and just two earned runs. The Yankee offense is too good to stay down and I expect them to break out of their funk today against a pitcher they have had success with. I expect another strong performance out of Mussina and expect the Yanks to salvage the series going away. Play the Yankees on the runline for 1 unit.
