NBA Basketball - Los Angeles Lakers @ Boston Celtics
3 units (Play of the Day) TOTAL: Under 192 (-110)

The first games of a playoff series tend to go under as teams feel each other out a bit and play a little conservative. The Boston Celtics went under the first game in Detroit, Cleveland and Atlanta. The LA Lakers went under the first game in San Antonio and Utah. The Lakers have gone under 66% of the time in the playoffs and 55% of the Celtics games have gone under as well. Both teams were big under teams during the regular season as well. If Boston can find a way to keep Kobe down a little the game should go under in Boston tonight.

GAME 2 OF THE DOUBLEHEADER

MLB Baseball - St. Louis Cardinals @ Washington Nationals
3 units (Normal) MONEYLINE: Washington Nationals -107

So I'm scanning down the list of probable pitchers for today's games and I do a double take. Does that really say ERA 26.97 in starts this year? Yup. Mike Parisi had one hell of a bad start in his first start. It's not going to get easier when he faces Washington today. His opponent Tim Redding has pitched terrific all year. Well, maybe not terrific, but pretty good. Good enough that the Nats have won 75% of his starts. I think Washington has a good chance of sweeping this double header today as Wellemeyer is due for a letdown as he can't keep pitching like a Cy Young candidate all year. The Nats haven't lost 4 in a row since back on April 12. Parisi was 8-13 with an era of 5 last year in AAA. This guy's just not qualified to get major league starts

Ben Burns

I'm taking the points with the LA LAKERS. Home teams were dominant through the first two rounds of the playoffs. However, road teams began to catch up last round and the Celtics were beaten by the Pistons here at Boston. Tonight, in my opinion, they'll be taking a significant step up in class. While the Celtics got to beat up on a lot of mediocre opponents. the Lakers were challenged nearly every game in the vastly superior Western Conference. This was a really strong team that became an elite team with the addition of Gasol. They beat Denver, Utah and San Antonio to get here and did so with relative ease. The Celtics, on the other hand, had a relatively difficult time with the likes of Altanta, Cleveland and Detroit - arguably a weaker opponent in each round. The Lakers are (obviously) playing at a very high level right now, as evidenced by their 12-4-1 ATS (14-3 SU) record their last 17 games. The Celtics, on the other hand, are just 6-12 ATS their past 18 games, including a money-burning 3-8 ATS mark their last 11. Despite having such a great season, the Celtics were just 2-3 SU/ATS when playing with three or more day's rest in between games. They're 7-12 ATS in that situation the past three seasons. Conversely, with Phil Jackson calling the shots in LA, the Lakers are 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS the last nine times that they played with three or more days rest in between games. The Lakers won road games at Denver, Utah and most recently San Antonio and they're a highly profitable 31-15-2 ATS on the road for the year. That includes a healthy 5-1 SU/ATS mark as road underdogs of three points or less. Looking back a bit further and we find them at 17-8-1 ATS in that role the past three seasons. In the end, the Lakers have the best player on the floor and should enjoy a significant head coaching advantage. Look for them to stun the Celtics and their home fans by scoring the minor upset here.
