Wunderdog

Colorado at Milwaukee
Pick: Milwaukee -1.5 runs +118

The road has never been a friendly place for a team built to win at Coors Field as the Rockies are 8-26 in their last 34 on road games. The Brewers have been a sizzling home team where they have been winning two out of every three games. The Brewers have also eaten LHP alive where they own a 20-9 record. Jorge DeLa Rosa hasn't exactly been the answer for the Rockies as he has compiled a 6.58 ERA and is exactly the kind of LHP that the Brewers destroy. Dave Bush has pitched much better as he has replaced a 6.56 ERA in his first eight appearances with a 2.94 ERA over his last eight. The Brewers get the comfortable win here.

2-Unit Play. Take Milwaukee (-165) over Colorado
2-Unit Play. Take Milwaukee (-1.5, +125) over Colorado
Note: This is our Game of the Week.

De La Rosa has a 6.75 ERA in his last three and a 5.91 ERA on the road. Dave Bush has been solid at home (6-1 in L7) this season and has a 2.70 ERA in his last three games. He has also given up just one run in three of his last four starts. The Brewers are 40-19 at home and the Rockies are 5-21 on the road. Brewers are also 20-8 in their last 28 against a left-handed starter. Colorado is 8-18 in day games and is 26th in the league in daytime ERA.

2.5-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 8.5 (+100) San Francisco at New York Mets

Maine’s ERA is a full run higher during the day. Zito’s daytime ERA is 9.00 in six day starts. He has been better lately, but the Mets have been raking against left-handed pitching. Also, we haven’t had a Mets bullpen eruption just yet. With a tight ump behind the dish I don’t see Zito getting the corners and it could be a slugfest. Also, the Giants hit really well during day games and their team ERA is the third-worst in the league in day games.

1.5-Unit Play. Take Detroit (-115) over Minnesota
1-Unit Play. Take Oakland (-170) over Seattle
1-Unit Play. Take ‘Over’ 8.0 Seattle at Oakland

Lenny Del Genio's Interleague Game of the YEAR! (1st GOY of 08)

Play on Pittsburgh at 7:05 ET. This is a total letdown spot for the Yankees, who come off four straight home wins over division rivals Boston and Tampa Bay. Cant see them getting up for this makeup date, especially considering they average just 4.4 runs/game vs. southpaws. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, has turned a very nice profit vs. righties (+$660). Starter Paul Maholm has looked great in his previous two outings, despite the fact the Pirates have lost both games. Hes thrown 15 innings and given up just three earned runs. At PNC Park this year, hes 4-1. Three of those victories came in the underdog role. Yanks starter Mike Mussina has a pretty lousy 6-11 team start record as a favorite of -125 to -175. Maholm has a 10-2 TSR at home when the total is 9 or 9.5. Over his last seven starts, hes 3-0 with a 2.74 ERA. Like we said, with another division rival, Toronto, on deck, expect the Yanks to come out flat here. Pittsburgh is our Interleague Game of the Year.

Ben Burns 1st Half GOY

I'm laying the price with the LA DODGERS. Due largely to the fact that the teams in their division have struggled, both the Marlins and the Dodgers are right in the thick of their respective division races. The Marlins enter the day tied with the Mets and trailing the Phillies by 1 1/2 games. On the other coast, thanks to a win last night, the Dodgers are tied with the Diamondbacks for first in the West. While Florida currently has the slight better record, I firmly believe that the Dodgers have a significantly better chance of winning the West than the Marlins do of winning the East. Having caught up with Arizona should be a motivator here, as will the chance to finally climb back to the .500 mark for the first time since May. The Dodgers have been getting exceptional pitching recently and I expect them to enjoy a significant advantage on the mound again this evening. Chan Ho Park has been making the most of his latest crack at the starting rotation. Indeed, the veteran Korean right-hander has made four starts and has gone 1-0 with an extremely impressive 1.29 ERA and 26 K's in 21 innings, allowing one earned run or less in ALL four starts. In his most recent home outing, Park was dominant, tossing six innings of shutout ball against the Angels. He allowed just four hits and didn't walk a batter, striking out seven along the way. The Dodgers won that game by a score of 6-0. That victory came against Saunders, the American League leader in wins. Conversely, tonight Park will be opposed by a pitcher who hasn't started a game this season. Josh Johnson gets the call for the Marlins and he'll be making his first start since having Tommy John surgery last August. Note that pitchers who have attempted to return from Tommy John surgery in less than a year haven't fared very well historically. You may recall seeing Johnson last year, as he made four starts, prior to going on the DL for good in July. In those four starts, Johnson was 0-3 with an awful 7.47 ERA. While he'd obviously love to make a triumphant return, even Johnson acknowledged: "There's still some stuff I'm trying to iron out delivery-wise..." Even when he's been healthy, Johnson has had trouble with the Dodgers. In two starts against them, he has a 9.00 ERA. Note that the Marlins bullpen hasn't been particularly good on the road either. In fact, the Florida relievers entered Wednesday's action with a 4.05 ERA and 1.489 ERA on the road. The Dodgers bullpen, on the other hand, entered yesterday with an excellent 2.54 ERA and 1.122 WHIP at home. The Dodgers are 11-5 the last 16 series meetings, including 4-0 the last four. Behind another quality effort from Park, look for the inspired Dodgers to continue that recent dominance tonight and move back to 500. *1st Half GOY

Doc's Sports

Florida Marlins @ Los Angeles Dodgers
PICK: Los Angeles Dodgers

The Fish continue their west coast swing this evening when they open up a four game series with the Dodgers at the Stadium. The Dodgers have done a great job of making Chan Ho Park serviceable and he is 4-2 on the season with a 2.36 E.R.A. It makes one wonder how good he could have been had he stayed on the coast instead of going for the cash grab in Texas. His numbers are even better in four starts this season going 1-0 with a 1.29 E.R.A. The Dodgers have won three games from Florida already in Miami and will continue their domination on Thursday giving us yet another big pick winner

Stephen Nover

New York Yankees @ Pittsburgh Pirates
PICK: Pittsburgh Pirates

The Yankees find themselves in a dangerous letdown spot here after sweeping Tampa Bay at home on Wednesday.

New York is traveling to Pittsburgh to make up this one game before facing Toronto having just conclued six games against the Red Sox and Rays.

It would be a mistake to overlook the Pirates in this matchup. Pirates starter Paul Maholm is 3-0 with a 2.74 ERA in his last seven starts. The southpaw pitches better at home, where he's 4-1 with a 3.47 ERA. New York is just one game above .500 when facing left-handers.

Mike Mussina is having a strong season for New York. However, the Yankees probably aren't going to have closer Mariano Rivera available after he pitched two innings and threw 30 pitches yesterday. Pirates closer Damasco Marte didn't pitch yesterday.

The Pirates have an underrated offense. They actually have scored 14 more runs than the Yankees.
