Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys
Play: Dallas Cowboys -3

I see a lot of value tonight on the Dallas Cowboys in pre-season action. There are still several position to be filled before final cuts and the guys will be playing very hard especially on Special Teams! Dallas is 4-1 ATS where the total is 35 points or less the last three years, and they are 3-1 ATS when playing a home game where the total is between 32.5 to 35 points the last three years. Look for the Dallas Cowboys to roll over the Minnesota Vikings in a big way tonight as the Vikings aren't expected to show much.

DAVID MALINSKY

Dodgers (RL) @ Nationals (RL)
PICK: Nationals (RL) 3*

Yes, we are coming back again, after cashing more than 10*’s worth of tickets with the Nationals in this series already, and once again the Run Line is going to be the method – we will dare a slumping Dodger offense to get any kind of easy win, especially with tonight’s lineup.

We can start here by updating some of the key numbers from last night’s analysis – for the season Los Angeles is now 21-43 as -1.5 on the road, including a dismal 3-15 since the All Star break. The offense has not scored more than four runs in the last nine games, and was held to three or less eight times in that span. And with tonight’s lineup lowered by the presence of Danny Ardoin (.204 lifetime, with only 35 rbi’s in 406 at-bats), and Angel Berroa (.211 the past two seasons, with only nine walks and six rbi’s in 161 plate appearances), their task becomes even more difficult.

Meanwhile the Nationals bring real optimism, on a 4-2 run in their last six games despite playing teams that are fighting for their playoff lives (W’s vs. the Phillies and Cubs on the road in this span, before the Dodgers came to town). And in their second look against Clayton Kershaw they can get a much better read than they did in Los Angeles, especially given Kerhaw’s 5.79 road ERA, including a confidence-lowering battering against the Phillies in his last outing.

So why the Run Line instead of the outright win? Partially because of the difficulty we perceive of the Dodgers getting any kind of margin against the under-rated John Lannan (his 6.27 home ERA is a correction waiting to happen), with the difference between gutting out a one-run escape and winning easily a chasm for this bunch right now, but also because we must respect possible Washington bullpen issues in the 9th inning. With Jack Hanrahan off of back-to-back saves in which he threw a combined 48 pitches, there is a fatigue rating for the closer that must be dealt with. But that does not keep us out of this one, it only lowers our rating a bit, and makes the Run Line the tool.

LEE KOSTROSKI

Tennessee Titans @ Green Bay Packers
PICK: Tennessee Titans -6.5

Jeff Fisher is NOT happy with his team’s performance the last few pre-season games. They did beat Oakland 17-16 two weeks ago before getting embarrassed by Atlanta 17-3 last weekend. The starting offense has not scored a TD yet this pre-season under the direction of QB Vince Young. Because of that, Fisher has decided to play his starters into the THIRD QUARTER of tonight’s game @ Green Bay. That is basically unheard of when it comes to the final game of the pre-season. By contrast, the Packers plan on playing their starters only 8 to 10 snaps tonight.

QB Vince Young has been poor throughout the pre-season. He has completed just 43% of his passes and has looked out of sorts. So why are we on Tennessee? Because Fisher wants to make sure Young gets his confidence back before opening next week against Jacksonville. That’s why he is allowing his starters to play against Green Bay’s second and even third stringers tonight. Fisher wants to set the tone for the regular season and put some points on the board tonight. We expect them to against the Packers non-starters.

On the other side of the ball, the Packers will be sending two rookies, Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn, to take snaps behind the second and third string line against Tennessee’s starting unit. That’s a Titan defense that was 5th in the league in yards allowed last year at just 291. They also gave up only 18 PPG. Get ready to watch Brohm and Flynn running for their proverbial lives on Thursday night. That should lead to turnovers which will give Tennessee’s offense plenty of opportunities to turn their fortunes in the right direction.

Not only will the Green Bay starters not break a sweat in this game, many of them are being held out all together. Nearly the entire defensive backfield might be smack dab on the bench tonight. Safety Atari Bigby will not play. There is also a possibility that starting corners Al Harris and Charles Woodson will not see the field. Linebacker A.J. Hawk will not play. Two starting offensive lineman, center Scott Wells and guard Josh Sitton, are out. Expect the Green Bay coaches to be very careful with this game.

Jeff Fisher has made this a big game for the Titans. Mike McCarthy just wants to make sure his team comes out of this game healthy. That all leads to a Titan blowout to close out the pre-season. Lay the points.
