Larry Ness' 15* Situational Game of the Week (6-1 run GOW plays!)

My 15* play is on the NY Yankees at 7:10 ET. The Yankees blew a five-run 7th-inning lead at Tampa last night but won 8-7 on Cano's pinch-hit HR in the eighth. The Yanks are just 7-7 to open '08, while the Rays (don't say DEVIL!) are 6-7, which includes them splitting a four-game series earlier this year at Yankee Stadium. The Yanks had four HRs last night plus got Derek Jeter back in the lineup, after he had missed the previous six due to a quad strain. Veteran lefty Andy Pettitte will get a second chance this year against the Rays (and TB starter Edwin Jackson), as he lost to Jackson and the Rays 6-3 earlier this year. Pettitte allowed eight hits and five runs (three ERs) over five innings in that April 5 game at Yankee Stadium. Pettitte pitched much better in his second start of '08, allowing five hits and one ER (6.2 innings) in a 6-1 win at KC last Thursday. I'm not sure what to make of Jackson? He was sharp against the Yankees and Pettitte in April 5 but even better in his second start, going eight innings while allowing just two hits in a 7-0 Rays' home win over the Mariners last Thursday. All this from a pitcher who was 5-15 with a 5.76 ERA last year with Tampa Bay. The team was just 8-23 in his 31 starts during '07, going 4-10 in his home starts, where Jackson posted a 6.55 ERA. How significant are his two starts this year? Does it mean he's now 'found' himself? What I do know is that Pettitte is 13-3 with a 3.60 ERA in his career vs the Rays and has won his last six road decisions against them, going 7-1 with a 3.23 ERA in his lifetime starts in Tampa. I love the veteran lefty in this fairly quick "re-hook" with Jackson, especially knowing that the Rays have struggled vs left-handing pitchers in each of the last three seasons, posting record of 20-25, 17-29 and 20-32 (Rays are 2-2 so far in '08 vs lefties, including 0-2 in home night games!).

Situational Game of the Week 15* NY Yankees.

Lenny Del Genio's 20* MLB Home Run (2nd Highest Rating!)

Play on Philadelphia at 7:05 ET. Nice spot to play against the Astros, who are coming off back-to-back impressive home wins over Florida, but now must return to the road, where they average just 3.6 runs per game. They also lost a ton of money (-$1010) on the road vs. righties last year. They'll face Adam Eaton tonight, who is coming off a pair of hard luck non-decisions (both team losses) away from home to start the year. He'll be good to go back in Philly. Hopefully, so will MVP SS Jimmy Rollins, who is expected to be back from injury. That should be a big spark for the Phillies offense. Even without Rollins, however, they took two of three over the weekend from the Cubs. Although Astros hurler Shawn Chacon hasn't started against the Phills since '03, he did see them three times in relief appearances last year with the Pirates. He gave up four runs in just 2 and two-thirds innings. Philadelphia is our 20* MLB Home Run.
