Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland A's

What a season it's been for the Rays as they just set a new franchise record for wins with 71. Of course, bettors are more concerned with the team's incredible 25-2 mark as favorites of $1.50 or more. They have ace Scott Kazmir on the hill Tuesday and he's gone 4-0 with a 1.80 in his last five starts vs. the A's. Overall, Tampa Bay has won each of his last four outings.

Play on: Tampa Bay

Milwaukee Brewers at San Diego Padres

In their last game the Brewers beat the Washington Nationals 7-1 and in the Padres last game they crushed the Colorado Rockies 16-7. The Brewers are in the heart of the playoff race, as they are 3.5 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central and leading the Wild Card race by 3.5 games over division rival St. Louis. The Padres? Well this season is one they would rather forget, as they are in last place in the weak NL West, but only trail the Brewers in the Wild Card by 21.5 games! Things have been far from sunny in San Diego this year, but they have won their last 2 games, but are 4-6 in their last 10 games, while the Brew Crew is 8-2 in their last 10 games and have fired off 6 wins in a row. Taking the mound for the Padres is Cha Seung Baek (4-6 5.06 ERA), who pitched a good game in his last outing going 6 innings and giving up 2 earned runs in a win. In their last game 2 days ago the Padres scored 16 runs on 20 hits and left 10 men on base. Taking the mound for the Brewers is Jeff Suppan (7-7 4.70 ERA), who in his last outing went 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs in a win. In last night's game against the Nationals the Brewers scored 7 runs on 8 hits and left 9 men on base.

Staff Pick:The Brewers are playing for a playoff spot and the Padres are simply playing for pride. The pitching match up in this game has to go to the Brewers, as even though Suppan is only .500, Baek has been horrid since coming to San Diego from Seattle. Since being acquired from the Mariners in late May, Baek is 0-5 with a 6.96 ERA in 7 appearances at Petco Park, including 6 starts. The Brew Crew is a decent road team being 32-28 and the Padres have not played well at Petco going 25-34. They have been terrible at home as of last going 4-16 since June 20 and have lost 7 consecutive series. The Brewers have been on fire since the clubhouse Brew Ha-Ha (no pun intended), where the inter-squad fight during the game actually may have helped them. The Brewers can really help themselves out in the standings, as they are starting their 3rd straight series against a last place team. San Diego's offense woke up in the pair of games at Colorado this weekend, as they totaled 24 runs and 33 hits in a pair of wins. However, the Brew Crew are rolling and they will continue to do so and win game 1 of this series.

Brewers 8 Padres 4

St. Louis -110 at FLORIDA

Going with the experience of Kyle Lohse and the Cardinals tonight who really need to get going on this road trip. Lohse (13-4, 3.80 ERA) is 6-2 on the road and look for St. Louis to come out and produce some runs for him tonight.

The Marlins have Christopher Volstad (3-2, 2.67) on the mound today and he's gone 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA in front of the home fans since getting into the rotation on July 11. Last time out at home he gave up five runs in five innings to the Rockies and lost 5-2.

St. Louis has won 11 of the last 14 meetings with the Marlins, including seven of the last eight in South Beach. The Cardinals are also 12-4 in Lohse's last 16 trips to the mound.

The Cardinals lost two of three in Chicago over the weekend while the Marlins went 3-3 on a six-game trip through Philadelphia and New York. We're going with the Cardinals to win this one with some big offense. Play St. Louis.

Milwaukee -120 at SAN DIEGO

Everything going Milwaukee's way these days, as the Brewers have won their last 6 games as they head west to take on San Diego.

Milwaukee will send Jeff Suppan to the mound, and Suppan has won his last pair of starts - both on the road - allowing 3 runs in 14 innings of work.

The Padres will counter with Baek who has yet to win a home game this year at 0-6, and a bloated 6.62 ERA.

San Diego has won their last pair of games, and 4 of their last 7 overall, but the Pads are just 25-34 at home this year.

Milwaukee is charging hard in the NL Central, and we don't see them being stopped in this spot.

Expect Suppan to win his third straight start, and the Brewers to win their 7th in a row.

Play on Milwaukee.

Karl Garrett

Philadelphia at LOS ANGELES

Anyone for a pitcher's duel?

That's what the G-Man is calling for this Tuesday night at Chavez Ravine as a couple of tough southpaws toe the rubber.

It will be Cole Hamels, and Clayton Kershaw, and you can expect to see plenty of goose eggs on that Dodger Stadium scoreboard.

Hamels is coming off 6 innings of 2 run ball in a home loss to the Marlins, and for the year the lefty sports a 3.35 ERA.

His counterpart Kershaw has been dazzling of late, as he has allowed just 1 earned run his last 19 innings of work. All 3 of his last 3 starts have played UNDER the posted price, and this one will too.

Both teams have been playing them UNDER the total more often than OVER the last few days, and the G-Man sees this one as staying LOW as well.

Take the UNDER.

Play: Philadelphia Phillies

Hamels has pitched much better then that record shows!! The Phillies are the team you here about for offense, but they dont seam to find it with Hamels!!! Kershaw has also pitched well, but he is a rookie and will find is spots to struggle. Play on the Phillies to make a push to the Playoffs!!

Steve Janus

Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres
Play: Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers are playing like a team that wants to win their division. They are doing everything in their power to run down the Cubs in the NL Central. In their last 16 road games, where they have to win to have a chance at the pennant, the Brewers are 13-3. They've also won 5 in a row. The Cubs better stay on their game. Back to this matchup, we have a San Diego Padres team that is a complete disappointment this season. They've won just 15 of their last 48 games overall, and they aren't even playing well at home, losing 9 of their last 11 in San Diego against right handed starters. Cheap price for a red-hot Milwaukee team Tuesday night.

Craig Trapp

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals
Play: New York Mets -1.5

Can't pass up on the Mets here even though their bullpen has given up several big leads lately. Today they try to fix there problems by going to the ace of staff, Santana. Santana is 2-0 with a 2.47 ERA in his last seven starts and has a 2.03 ERA in his last two outings, striking out 10 in 13 1-3 innings. They also play the worst team in the league today Washington Nationals. Look for the Mets to get up early and Santana to pitch a complete game. Score NYM 8 - WASH 3.

Brad Diamond Sports

Play: Chicago White Sox

After a competitive series at home against the Twins the Royals are on the road in a tough environment in Chicago where the Sox are going for a Central flag. With right hander Vazquez on the hill, I believe you’ll have the right side of the equation. With Vazquez the Sox are 4-0 in their last four games versus the Royals, while going 6-1 in home starts against a losing team. Plus Chicago is 4-0 on Tuesday’s, while the Royals are 1-4 with hurler Bannister versus a winning team.

Alex Smart

Seattle Mariners @ Los Angeles Angels Over 9.5

The LA Angels explosive offense prepares to tee off on a Mariners pitcher Jarrod Washburn( 5-11, 4.76 ERA) that has not pitched well this season. The veteran southpaw is 0-2 along with a ugly 7.59 ERA in his most recent outings. Washburn also owns a 0-2 record against the Halos in 2008, and is sporting a hefty 6.53 ERA in those tilts. With the Angels hitting .316 in their L/17 home games, Washburn could easily end up as cannon fodder again. Meanwhile, the Angels will return fire with Jon Garland (10-7, 4.28 ERA).The right hander is not in good current form, recording a bloated 6.51 ERA in his last five trips to the hill. He is also 0-2 along with a hefty 6.32 ERA in his L/3 starts vs the Mariners . It must also be noted that the men of the Emerald City , have awoken from a season long hitting slump to average, .323 in the month of August, and once again ,look primed to take advantage of some below average starting pitching . Final notes & Key Trends: Over is 5-0 in Mariners last 5 games with the total set at 9-10.5. Play Over

Tony George

Arizona D-Backs vs. Colorado Rockies
Play: Colorado Rockies

Randy Johnson is still around but faces a team bent on revenge after a 0-3 sweep at the hands of Arizona back in May. Adding to Johnson's frustrations tonight, after 3 good outings, is the fact the Rockies hit left handers at home with a stellar team batting average of .310 this season. Both teams have lost 6 out of their last 10, but Colorado at home is a different animal and send a decent starter to the mound in Ubaldo Jimenez, who has tossed out a 2-1 record in his last 3 games with a 3.00 ERA. Arizona is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and just like any other trend, they tend to reverse themselves, and I look for Colorado to get one at home in the series opener with some serious focus and a lot of revenge in mind. Arizona just lost 3 out 4 at home against the Braves and are limping in here, a good spot for the Rockies.

Play on Colorado

Tom Stryker

TAMPA BAY -142 over Oakland

Tampa Bay owns a surprising four-game lead in the AL East standings. If the Devil Rays want to keep that cushion, they know they'll need to win games like this one tonight at Oakland.

In case you haven't noticed, the A's have struggled something fierce since the All-Star break posting a dismal 3-19 overall record. To stop the bleeding, Oakland will turn to rookie southpaw Gio Gonzalez. In his first start at Toronto on August 6th, Gonzalez was tapped for four earned runs and four hits in 6.0 innings of work in Oakland's 5-1 loss. Things won't get any easy for Gio at McAfee Coliseum.

Gonzalez will be opposed by Tampa Bay ace Scott Kazmir. In his last start against Cleveland, Kazmir got roughed up for five earned runs and nine hits in only 4.1 innings of work. Fortunately, Scott has enjoyed his best efforts with the lights on. At night, the lefty from Houston, Texas has been tapped for only 18 earned runs and 51 hits in 71.1 innings. That adds up to a strong 7-1 record and a blistering 2.27 ERA! Equally impressive, No. 19 has dominated Oakland posting a reliable 6-1 record and a miniscule 2.63 ERA spanning 10 starts.

On a technical note, the Devil Rays are playing good baseball right now and have cashed 10 of their last 12 and 47 of their last 65 priced as a favorite. Meanwhile, the A's have dropped 35 of their last 51 priced as an underdog and 16 of their last 21 facing teams from the AL East. Let's ride the experienced arm in this one men. Take Tampa Bay with Kazmir.
