The Phillies are coming to this game with an huge momentum, as they come from a sweep against the Brewers, which not only put them closer to the Mets in the fight for the division, but also put them with an equal record to the Brewers in the fight for the NL Wildcard. Today they will begin a very important series against the Braves and they will send their most consistent pitcher: Jamie Moyer. The southpaw has been managing to get very important quality starts, helping the Phillies to win pivotal games, as for example he is 3-0 with 2.50 ERA on his last 3 outings against the Cubs, the Mets and the Brewers, with all of them being contender teams.
On the other side, the Braves are also in a good phase with 5 wins in their last 6 games and they will send today James Parr, who will make his 3rd start for the team. He had two great performances in his first two outings, by not allowing any run in 12 innings and that's the main reason why the Braves don't have an higher price for today. However we have to remember that he faced in those outings the Nationals and the Rockies and these two teams are far from the level he will face today against the Phillies, especially when they are coming from a sweep against the Brewers.
Atlanta hasn't been managing to get good results vs LHP lately, with the Braves being 1-5 in their last 6 home games vs LHP. Both teams are coming from an off day and the Phillies are 4-0 in their last 4 games following an off day. This series is extremely important for the Phillies and they will use their best pitcher today, who is 11-4 against the money line in road games this season, against a team who is terrible after an upset, as they are just 4-15 against the money line off an upset win over a division rival as an underdog over the last 2 seasons. It is going to be a nice day for Hitter at Coors Field but there is more going on in this game than just that. Neither starter is throwing that well right now and the Rockies, who have had somewhat of a Hitting Absense, will be in their very best hitting posture for this one, facing the lefty. They do have the their best chance of scoring runs in this situation as they are hitting right at the .300 mark verses Southpaws in this park this year. Estes has not been so spiffy throwing at this park at 4-4 and an ERA of 6.67 in 11 starts here over his career. Some of that can be discounted with the fences being moved back recently but the fact is, this park still produce a lot of runs. Padre bats have always been much better on the road and they have been very hot of late. They certanly were last night. The Bullpens for both squads are iffy right now and the stats show that with both teams' second line throwers having Earned Run Averages exceeding 5 runs over the last 12 played. Jimenez has been a Super Duper Under Man here at home and the last 17 of 22 that he has thrown here has been just that. That is why I am being conservative and making this just a regular Ole Play. However, with no playoff implications tonight we could easily see another wild affair in the offing. The last 4 games between these 2 here in the Mountains have produced run totals of 16, 13, 23, and 11. It is time for both teams hitters to start padding their numbers for next year and tonight I think they will do just that. You might have to pay -115 to get this one and it would be worth that in my best estimation.
