MLB Total of the Day (MLB Totals YTD: 8-1 89%)

My 5* MLB Total of the Day is the LA Dodgers/Arizona Diamondbacks Over the posted total. Last night we cashed a ticket with the over between these two squads as they went on to score 15 runs. Diamondbacks are mashing the ball right now and could have scored about 15 runs by themselves last night if they didn?t leave bases loaded on several occasions. None the less they have scored 19 runs in two games versus the Dodgers and rank on top of almost every offensive category, 2nd in runs scored at 6.25 per game, 9th in BA at .267, 2nd in OPS at .860, and 1st in HR?s AT 17 on the year. Both of these pitchers Kuroda for the Dodgers and Owings for the Diamondbacks pitched well in their season openers but I expect poor outings tonight as Kuroda had the luxury of facing off against a SD team that really isn?t hitting the ball that well and the luxury of PETCO Park. Meanwhile, Owings faced off against Colorado squad who has not woken up at the plate at all this year. Kuroda is only making his 2nd big league start and it couldn?t come at a worse time the Diamondbacks are really smashing the ball. I also like backing over?s when Owings gets involved because he is a fantastic hitter and to have him in the 9 spot keeps big innings going leading to a lot of run support generally. Owings was terrible for Day games last year posting a 5.63 ERA in comparison to his 3.97 in night games. Both teams used their bullpen pretty heavy yesterday and both BP?s got shelled expect much of the same this afternoon. I currently have this line at 9. My 5* MLB Total of the Day is the LA Dodgers/Arizona Diamondbacks Over the posted total. As always, Good Luck, Let?s make some money.

MLB Game of the Day (11-2 Last 13 Selections, 19-4 Last 23 Selections)

My 5* MLB Game of the Day is the San Francisco Giants over the San Diego Padres. I realize the Giants aren?t a very good team this year and that their offense really struggles but all that being said I think they take some confidence from last night?s game into tonight. Molina hit a walk off in the 10th to win the game 3-2 and it was his 2nd home run of the game. Very important for him to get going this season as he is one of the few Giants that can present some pop in that lineup, he was 2-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIS yesterday, 2-4 with a 1 run and a double the day before and has at least one hit in 6 out of the last 7 games. Sanchez will take the mound for the Giants and Germano for the Padres. Sanchez got roughed up in his first start of the year but that was at Milwaukee against a much better batting lineup then the Padres present. Padres really aren?t scoring a lot of runs this year and presenting much pop as they are averaging 3.56 runs per game and only have 6 team HR?s on the year. I like Giants winning with a walk off last night and building some confidence at home; I expect them to get the job done for us tonight and win 2 in a row. I currently have this line at +120. My 5* MLB Game of the Day is the San Francisco Giants. As always, Good Luck, Let?s make some money.

Wednesday NBA Opinions/Possible Best Bets

TORONTO (-14) over Milwaukee
Toronto has lost 3 consecutive games to drop to the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference, but the Raptors certainly have incentive to move out of a first round match-up with the Pistons by winning a few games. Toronto’s 3 game losing streak is a bit of a surprise given how well they play after a loss, but the Raptors are still 39-15-1 ATS the last two seasons after a loss when star Chris Bosh is playing, including 30-9-1 ATS after a night off (6-0-1 ATS after 3 losses and 7-0 ATS against an unrested team). Toronto is 3-0 ATS this season as a double-digit favorite after a loss with Bosh, so they are primed for a blowout win tonight. My ratings favor Toronto by 13 ½ points, so the line is pretty fair, and I’ll lean with the Raptors at -14 points or less. I’d take Toronto in a 2-Star Best Bet at -12 points or less.

CLEVELAND (-7 ½) over New Jersey
Cleveland has lost all 3 meetings with New Jersey this season, but two of those were on the road and the other was a game in which star Lebron James did not play. Cleveland applies to a solid 62-23-3 ATS late-season situation tonight that is 31-9 ATS if the team has the revenge motive, so I expect the Cavaliers to bounce-back from their two game losing skid. The Cavs are only 14-23 ATS at home with James in the lineup this season, but New Jersey is just 4-16-1 ATS as a road underdog of 5 points or more this season. New Jersey is also just 4-15 ATS after a home win this season, including 1-10 ATS when facing an opponent that did not play the previous night. My ratings favor Cleveland by 7 points and I’m not going to give up any line value to make this game a Best Bet. I’ll lean with the Cavaliers at -7 ½ or -8 points and I’ll take Cleveland in a 2-Star Best Bet at -7 points or less as long as Lebron James is playing (he’s been upgraded to expected to start).

Washington Wizards +3 over the Boston Celtics

The Wizards may be without Caron Butler, but they have Arenas and Jamison back in the lineup which is huge. They are sitting in the 5th spot with an outside chance to move up to 4th. A loss here and they could be on the verge of falling to 7 and a first round match up with the Pistons. Boston is playing ho hum as they are locked into the first seed after having escaped with an overtime victory over Milwaukee. Don't expect any of the Boston Three party to log more than 27 minutes here and thus giving Washington a chance to steal one at home. 102 94 Wizards

INDIAN COWBOY

Magic -9.5 (POD)

Typically I favor underdogs as you know but if the right game calls for it, I will gladly take the favorite - such as when Bosh came back to the Raptors lineup and they faced the Heat in what was an absolute burial. Stan Van Gundy is the type of coach that does not let his team fall by the way side even for a few ballgames. Remember, he got this position only after Riley and Heat asked him "gently" to step aside while Riley took over the reigns. Well, he then got to coach the team in the same state after Donovan decided to go back to the Magic. So, Van Gundy feels fortunate and frankly, he is a helluva coach that does not get as much credit as he deserves. He has been riding these players hard and he has been getting good production out of them. I say all this to note this, very rarely do the Magic lose back to back covers. I want to put forth to you the last 10 ballgames and want you to notice something. The Magic lost at Washington by 1 then came back to pound Philly at home. The Magic lost against the Spurs at home and then went on the road to pound to pound Milwaukee by nearly 20 points. The Magic lost at home by a point to the Hornets then went on the road to beat the Cavs by DD's. Now, the Magic have lost on the road to the Knicks and you better believe and bet your bottom dollar that they will be wanting to pound someone after Van Gundy got through with them in practice. The Bulls should play well in the get-go coming off a bad loss to the Heat, but with no Gooden, the season is already over, the Magic on the bounce-back, I like the Magic to win by double-digits here. The Magic are 9-0-2 ATS against teams with a 40% winning % on the road when they play at home - meaning when they play poor road teams at home, they drill them.

Cardinals/Astros Under 9.5

I've already taken the under twice in this matchup in the last 2 nights, why would I tail off now. The Astros rely heavily on their pitching at home such as with Wandy the other night and Chacon last night and the Cardinals have the best starting ERA in baseball with less than 1. Their starters have been brilliant this year and this is without saying they are getting Carpenter their ace and Cy Young Winner and Mulder back to the rotation eventually as the season progresses. Long story short here, both offenses are weak at best, both starting pitching has been solid, Looper and Sampson have pitched well in their last 2 starts against competent offenses, look for yet another under in Houston to take place. The Under is 11-2 for the Astros in their last 13 overall and the under is 5-0 for the Cardinals when the total is set this high.

Giants/Padres Under 8.5

You notice why the line is so low? Because both of these teams can't hit worth a lick similar to what was shown with the Astros and Cardinals in my other write-up. The Giants are one of the worst run scoring teams in the league scoring 2, 2, 4, 4, 0, 4, and 3 runs in their first 7 ballgames. The Padres aren't much better but do have sound pitching as Germano hits the mound today. Sanchez is a good looking young pitcher that I expect to see him bounce-back at home today. The majority of the public favors San Diego to over 70% here but look for this game to be a pitcher's duel with San Fran likely to surprise, but more importantly, this game goes under. Under is 5-1 for Germano when the total is set this low of late and the Under is 8-1 for Caderstorm behind the plate in San Francisco.

15 Dime

BRAVES (With James and Redman as listed pitchers)

Take the Braves as the small road chalk tonight over the Rockies.

Colorado has been surprisingly impotent on offense so far this season, scoring only 16 runs through eight games. They might have to double their season output tonight if they want to win.

That’s because the soft-tossing Mark Redman gets the start and I don’t expect anything different than what he did in his season-opening start, when he allowed five runs, nine hits and three walks in 5 2-3 innings of an 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Braves will counter with Chuck James and he’s much more capable of delivering a quality start than Redman, even in Coors.

Take the Braves as they deliver the road win.

5 Dime

PIRATES (With Dempster and Duke as listed pitchers)

Take the Pirates as the small home dog for the win tonight over the Cubs.

This pitching matchup should favor the Pirates, as Ryan Dempster makes his second start of the season after serving as the Cubs closer for most of the last three seasons. He’ll be opposed by left-hander Zach Duke of the Pirates, who looked solid in his first start against the Braves last week.

Dempster hasn’t had a good history against the Bucs, going 3-7 with a 6.04 ERA in 37 appearances. The right-hander is 3-4 with a 6.14 ERA in 12 starts against the Pirates.

Duke, on the other hand, has had good success against the Cubs in his short career. The left-hander is 4-2 with a 2.10 ERA in eight starts against Chicago.

The Bucco bats shouldn’t have any problems providing run support for Duke, as they’ve scored 17 runs over the last two games.

Take the Pirates as the small home dog for the win.

MARINERS (With Washburn as listed pitcher)

Take the Mariners for the road win over the Rays.

I had Seattle last night with Erik Bedard and I’m sticking with them again tonight with Jarrod Washburn.

Washburn is 10-3 with a 2.69 ERA in 15 career starts against Tampa Bay. He should get his share of run support, especially with Ichiro Suzuki setting the table.

Ichiro is batting .457 during an eight-game hitting streak against the Rays.

Andy Sonnanstine will start for the Rays and he’s been bumped up in the rotation due to injuries to Scott Kazmir and now Matt Garza.

Take Seattle as they grab the road win over the reeling Rays.
