Ben Burns

Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland Athletics
Pick: Oakland Athletics Play Title:

DAYTIME MISMATCH Ben Burns Getaway Day GOW!

I'm playing on OAKLAND. There are several reasons why this is a difficult spot for the Tigers. For starters, they're playing the final game of an eight game road trip. They're also playing at a venue, where they have now lost six of their last seven. Additionally, they're off an extremely frustrating/heartbreaking loss. They lost when Oakland’s Jack Cust beat out an infield hit with two outs in the bottom of the 11th. The bases were loaded at the time and the winning run came home to score. It gets worse though, as the Tigers haven't fared well in this situation. While they've hit well vs. left-handers, they're batting .253 and scoring 4.5 runs against right-handers. That's actually not that bad when compared to their overall .237 mark and 3.7 runs that they've averaged on the road. For the season, they're 12-20 (-8.1) on the road and a money-burning 17-30 (-18.4) vs. right-handed starters. They're also an awful 5-16 in day games, costing their backers 16 units vs. the moneyline during that 21-game stretch, while averaging a mere 3.1 runs per game. On the other hand, the A's are a solid 12-8 (+3.8) in the afternoon this season, averaging five runs per game. Looking back further and we find Oakland at a highly profitable 82-63 (+18.1) in day games since the start of the 2006 season. The A's also figure to have an advantage on the mound. Justin Duchscherer has a 2.27 ERA on the season and he's 3-0 with an awesome 1.35 ERA and 0.65 WHIP in three home starts. Conversely, Nate Robertson is 2-3 (Tigers are 2-4) in six road starts with an ugly 6.03 ERA and 1.602 WHIP. It's also worth noting that the A's relievers entered yesterday's game with a combined 2.84 ERA and 1.00 WHIP at home while the Tigers' relievers had a combined 4.56 ERA and 1.667 WHIP on the road. Look for the A's to complete their first sweep of the Tigers in nearly three years. *Getaway Day GOW

Karl Garrett

30 DIMER - RAYS-RED SOX OVER.....10 DIMERS - HOUSTON ASTROS, & ST. LOUIS CARDINALS 30 DIMER - TAMPA BAY-BOSTON OVER (Jackson vs. Beckett)

I know both Edwin Jackson and Josh Beckett have pitched well for the most part this season, but Beckett's home ERA is over 5, while Jackson has allowed 7 runs over his last 11 innings of work.

Last night these teams went OVER for the 4th time in 4 games played at Fenway Park this season! 4-for-4 OVER the total in Beantown, and another is coming down the Mass. Pike tonight boys!

This is the 3rd time this year these pitchers are going against the others team, and the way the hitters have been banging the ball at Fenway this year, I will take my chances and play the OVER as my big 30 Dimer!

10 DIMER - HOUSTON ASTROS (Oswalt over Davis)

Houston erased a 5-game slide with the win last night at Pittsburgh, and I can see them garnering another win tonight with the struggling Roy Oswalt on the hill.

Oswalt is just 4-5 this year with a 5.45 ERA, but he has owned the Pirates the last couple of years, going 3-0 in his last 5 starts against them, with just 3 runs scored in 34 innings of work.

Zach Duke opposes, and he has been off this season as well, and is coming into this this one with a 2-4 season mark. He has lost his last 2 starts, and has allowed 10 runs over his last 16 innings.

Houston only won 2-0 last night, but I can see them putting up a few more tonight, while Oswalt shuts down the Pirates for the second night in a row.

10 DIMER - ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (Wellemeyer over Lannan)

Long night at the yard last night, as the Cards & Nats were held up by the rain twice.

St. Louis was able to send the Nationals to their 3rd straight loss, and I like them to do it again tonight.

The Redbirds are a perfect 4-0 in the season series versus Washington, and starter Todd Wellemeyer is now 6-1 on the season with an ERA just over 3.

Washington starter John Lannan is just 1-3 at home with an over 6 ERA, and my spidey-senses are telling me it is going to be 1-4 at home after this start.

The Cards have won 5 of their last 7, and the G-Man is backing them tonight.

again like i said earlier guys, i dont think i ever saw karl garrett have a top play for the day as an over/under play...i think hes liking this one a lot im gona pound it

Ross Benjamin Guaranteed Selections

Cincinnati (Volquez) @ Philadelphia (Myers)
Play On: Cincinnati +110 (15*)

The Cincinnati starter Volquez has been superb in his rookie season going 9-2 in his team starts with a brilliant 1.46 ERA. Volquez is 5-0 in his team starts this season versus a team with a winning percentage of better than .500. The Philadelphia starter Brett Myers has been anything but impressive over his last 5 starts posting a 1.92 WHIP and a 6.80 ERA while the Phillies were losers in 4 of those 5. Myers has not exactly been a good value as a home favorite going 3-10 in his last 13 team starts in that role including 0-7 as a favorite of 1.50 or less. The Reds have struggled on the road this season but have ample offensive firepower to expose a below average starting pitcher. Play on the Cincinnati Reds as my 15* National League Underdog Game of the Week.
