Toronto Blue Jays at Milwaukee Brewers

Let's go with the Brewers again tonight at Miller Park, where they have won eight of their last 10, including yesterday's 7-0 win over the Blue Jays. Toronto has dropped nine of their last 12 games and five of its last six away from home.

Brewers' right-hander Ben Sheets (7-1, 2.72) is 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in his last five starts and Milwaukee has won six of Sheets' last 7 interleague starts.

Blue Jays' right-hander Shaun Marcum (5-3, 2.43 ERA) is winless in his last three starts, 0-0 with a 1.71 ERA. Toronto is 1-4 in Marcum's last 5 starts.

Milwaukee Brewers - 135

Phoenix at Connecticut
Pick: Phoenix +2

At 9-2 the Connecticut Sun have gotten off to a fast start. This looks easy and the line looks too easy. There is a reason. The Sun has had two grueling road games back-to-back, and this will be their fourth on the road in a row in nine days, changing time zones along the way. This is a long-dominated home-team league, and in the right spot there is value, as home teams have posted a 42-27 mark thus far. Behind Cappy Pondexter (25.5 ppg) and Diana Turasi (23.5ppg), Phoenix is always a threat on any given night especially at home. They have played a tough schedule so far facing LA twice, Seattle twice as well as Detroit, so their record may not be reflective of what this team can do, and this is a good spot to go against a road-weary Connecticut team.

1 Unit Free Play on Giants +144

The Giants are being grossly undervalued at home in this one and we won't hesitate to pull the trigger at this price. The Tigers have won just 1 of their last 5 games in San Francisco . Detroit is just 4-13 against the money line in road games vs. terrible power teams - averaging 0.75 or less HR's/game this season while San Fran is 16-5 against the money line when playing against a marginal losing team (Win Pct. 46% to 49%) over the last 2 seasons. Detroit has also struggled in day games this season with just a 10-17 mark in these afternoon contests. It's also worth noting that the Giants are 20-8 against the money line with a rested bullpen - threw <= 2 innings in each of the last 2 games over the last 2 seasons. Bet the Giants at home showing great value.

LARRY NESS

Toronto Blue Jays @ Milwaukee Brewers
PICK: Milwaukee Brewers

REASON FOR PICK: Shaun Marcum was inserted into the starting rotation of the Blue Jays last May. The team went 15-10 in his starts the rest of the way, while Marcum posted a 3.91 ERA as a starter. He opened this year in the rotation and has been as good as anyone could have hoped (even better) but has just FIVE wins in 14 starts. He's allowed just 66 hits in 92.2 innings and owns a 2.43 ERA on the year. Over his last 10 starts, he's allowed two ERs or less NINE times, yet the Blue Jays are just 5-5 in those games. Toronto won 14 of 18 games from May 12-30 but the Jays have now lost 11 of their last 15 since, after last night's 7-0 loss in Milwaukee. Things won't get an easier tonight either, as Milwaukee ace Ben Sheets will oppose Marcum. Sheets has been healthy all season and takes a 7-1 mark with a 2.72 ERA into this game. He comes in pitching as well as he has all season, with a 3-0 mark and a 1.96 ERA over his last five starts (team is 4-1). Sheets has only faced the Blue Jays once (beating them back in '05) but is 4-0 with an 0.89 ERA in his last seven interleague games. No reason to buck the Brewers here or to back the struggling Blue Jays, so let's play on Milwaukee.

1* on Chicago Cubs -125

Carlos Zambrano will lead the Cubs to victory over the Tampa Bay Rays after a 1-run loss last night. Zambrano is 8-2 with just a 2.98 ERA on the year. Meanwhile, Andy Sonnanstine is 3-2 with a 5.32 ERA at Tropicana Field this season and has surrendered a .311 batting average in eight starts here. Cubs’ hitters will feast off of Sonnanstine who has really struggled to get out at home this season. The Cubs are 11-1 (+10.2 Units) against the money line vs. a very good bullpen whose WHIP is 1.250 or better this season. Zambrano is 12-0 (+12.0 Units) against the money line as a road favorite of -125 to -150 over the last 2 seasons. This Ace has never lost in this spot for 2 years now. Take the Cubs on the Money Line.

Detroit at San Francisco
Pick: San Francisco +139

You have to look at Barry Zito from the standpoint that he is a 115-86 career pitcher with a CY Young award under his belt. He has also had success against the Tigers where he has a 2.68 ERA in over 90 innings of work against them. He has also allowed three runs or less in six of his last eight starts, and is capable of a gem any time he takes the ball. Armando Galaragga has pitched well over his head after a 6+ ERA last season. The Tiger pen has still struggled, and allowing over two additional runs a game in his starts. The Tigers are a poor road team at 13-22, and to be this big a favorite offers value as they hit just .237 on the road. The Detroit pen is at 5.40 on the road as the Tigers score 4.8 at home but just 3.7 on the road. The Giants get the call here.

1 Unit on Tampa Bay Rays +109

Tampa Bay just refuses to show that they are overachieving this season. The Rays are for real and they will prove it again against the Cubs and Carlos Zambrano tonight. The Rays are 27-11 at home this year while the Cubs are actually 2 games below .500 on the road despite owning the National League’s best record. Carlos Zambrano has been beaten up over his last 3 starts, allowing 12 earned runs on 26 hits and 8 walks in 18 frames. Tampa Bay is 14-3 against the money line in home games after a game where the bullpen gave up no runs this season. Chicago is 3-15 against the money line in road games after having won 15 or more of their last 20 games since 1997. Cash in with Tampa Bay as the underdog.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds
Prediction: Cincinnati Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds will both be trying to pick up a win on Wednesday when they battle at Great American Ball Park. The Dodgers will pin their hopes on the pitching of righthander Derek Lowe in this game. Lowe has a 4-6 record and a 4.03 ERA this season. The Reds will counter Lowe with Bronson Arroyo. Righthander Arroyo has a 5.31 ERA to go along with a 4-5 record this season. Oddsmakers currently have the Reds listed as 130-moneyline favorites versus the Dodgers, while the game's total is sitting at 9. Jeff Kent went 3-for-4 with a run batted in to lead the Dodgers past the Reds 3-1 on Tuesday night. Los Angeles won as +105 road underdogs as the game played under the 9-run total posted by oddsmakers. Winning pitcher Chad Billingsley allowed one run over 6 1-3 innings for the Dodgers, who got RBIs from Russell Martin and Juan Pierre in the win. Javier Valentin knocked in the lone run for Cincinnati, while Johnny Cueto gave up two runs over seven innings to take the loss for the Reds. Current streak: Cincinnati has lost 3 straight games.
